I have been using the GF 20-35mm for the last 10 days and I am very impressed with it. I hesitated between the 23mm prime and this as it is a very sharp lens. The difference in size and weight is negligible and both are f/4 aperture lenses. This lens changed my opinion on an ultra wide zoom. The shorter focal length (20mm) is surprisingly handy, although the distortion is fairly pronounced, and being able to zoom in to 35mm really adds flexibility to the lens. My current go to for street and cityscape shooting is this lens and the GF 45mm f/2.8, especially when shooting at night.

Well said. The 23mm is great, but IMO… the 20-35 is also f4, lighter… pretty much the same quality. I think its the better purchase. I do wish it was a 2.8. I like doing long exposure/HDR at night so f4 is fine on the 20-35 for me, but I wouldnt do hand held with f4 at night. I'm with ya!

@@oxeneers I'm glad you brought this up. I specifically asked to review both the 45 and 50 because I want one of them, and couldnt figure out which to buy! I'm going to have a video on this exact topic. I want the 45 for the quality / focal length. I want the 50 for the same, but the compact-ness. Which one will win? That is the question.

Have you also considered the GF 30mm? Even though the 20-35mm and 23mm are much wider, that would be an option considering the lower price and weight.

You know… I have never considered the 30. or 63. I have always heard kind of meh things about them. But 30 would be a pretty cool focal equivalent (23.7mm) and have much nicer bokeh than the 23. I think ultimately I would personally hold out for the future 35 1.7, Naturally we have the 80 1.7. the 55 1.7 is coming. 35 1.7 would make alot of sense!

@@MikeBanom Oh really? I've only read good things in reviews so far. I'm trying to put together a kit with the 100s for travel photography. I was thinking of the 45-100, the 30 and the 45 as an always on. But I'm not quite satisfied with the composition yet ;)
