    At 20:22, you are at risk of going over and should be playing a road.

    Oof, 1st game, I dunno about leaving all that wood/brick in your hand for the OWS player to steal or mono. Need to be expanding over cities/devs! 4 9 11, 6 9 12, both looking juiiicey. Even building to the 6 sheep sheep port.

    You are way to much focussed on devs in the first game. First city should have been on the 6-5-10 after the 5 was already doubled up and blocked. Then you should focus on taking the 9-4-11 to secure road. At this point, your production is high enough to not be destroyed by the blocks. Your approach with the dream blocking spot on the 5 ore critically relies on you rolling 7s and your opponent not pulling knights, i.e. luck.

    I liked your picks in first game. I'd just point left on 8510 and right on 469. You normally beat him to the 4511 and then you are a road away from ore port. Road builder was awesome though!

    11:20 The only alternative is a defensive 6-4-9 + 8-5-10, hoping that a not so good player prioritizes the brick and doesn't take the lower 8-3-4. But even then, you rely on a single 9 wood to move around and getting to the ore will take ages.

  • @Schloopity
    @Schloopity8 күн бұрын

    Yeah, I wanted to place defensively, but I agree that getting to the ore would just take too long. Thanks for the comment!

    How come you didn’t plow at 6:18 to get to the 9/4 and secure longest road?

  • @Schloopity
    @Schloopity15 күн бұрын

    That is an option, but is certainly risky. During that turn I mentioned he could have a road builder (and he did!) If so, he would be able to plow us on the 9 10 11, stealing the settle spot and breaking our road. I felt better taking settlements along the way and hopefully connect through the 6 9, which didn't quite work out but that's okay. Thanks for the comment :)

    The first game, you could've monoed Wheat the whole time instead of waiting for ore - you had the wheat port and it would have stopped him pulling knights.

  • @Schloopity

    The 4 hurt and not sure if it would have made a difference as there’s too much to calculate but maybe taking army when you have two knights in hand is better then now being behind and them being up 3-2

  • @Schloopity
    @Schloopity15 күн бұрын

    It's definitely something to consider. I'm not sure I would have been able to keep Army the whole time, but it might have been worth the shot. Thanks for the comment!

    Definitely could have won the first game. Road builder +settlement for 14 and had you stopped chasing after knights that weren't going to help, could have city for 15.

  • @systems.stories

    Really tough choices, but I don't think you can give that window up. You either make it too hard for them to catch you or buy yourself some turns to get points while they scramble. You definitely needed that time, the game stalled from there and it's tough losing with an unplayed mono in your hand. At that point in the game you were looking at significantly lower odds for pulling a knight, and I think that tracking needed to factor into the odds of either of you catching up. I'm also not sure leaving your 6 wheat blocked with the wheat port, in addition to resource income you let the opponent have, makes up for your 4 roll even if you didn't get completely screwed by the dice (which you absolutely did). Really stellar game nonetheless, I don't think this was necessarily obvious.

  • @Schloopity
    @Schloopity15 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the analysis! Knowing when to stop the dev race is really hard and rarely clear haha. I got locked in on saving the Mono for the Ore, which probably would have won us the game, but it does feel bad to end with it still in my hand. I probably should have just used it earlier when the game was that close.

    9:32 And again, what is the 8-3-4 city offering you here? You need to get your road building up to take up space on the board. Your 6-2 excursion already allowed your opponent to pretty much secure the upper right half of the board. At that point you can safely resign. Your opponent outmatches you in every aspect.

  • @alexandernater6284
    @alexandernater628420 күн бұрын

    7:23 6-2 can never win you the game here. By the time you settle there, they have trippled up the 6 with extremely good city quality and you can't even city it. You are way too much focussed on the ore.

  • @alexandernater6284
    @alexandernater628420 күн бұрын

    5:41 Sorry, but 8-3-4 probably isn't even in the top5 of spots to pick here.

    Game 3, he has 2-5-10 plow up to the port spot he wound up taking anyway. Misplay on his part. Gotta watch out for those sneaky plow opportunities!

  • @tagcoins1
    @tagcoins120 күн бұрын

    In game 2, you just cannot leave him the 6-5-11. Take 843 left and then 6511. He can of course plow you, but you baited him there and force him to pick a spot with no sheep. He's much slower to start and if you pointed right off the second settle, you build onto a ton of sheep and the sheep port is yours. What do you think?

    I don't think you did anything objectively bad with gameplay or placement in game 2, and I think it was the rare board with massive advantage to a certain placement order. But there's an extent to which you might have been better off playing a port and road game to give yourself some kind of edge. If you'd placed your second settle somewhere further north it creates more of a predicament for the opponent. If they want in on the road mats they sacrifice a road path and complimentary OWS. If they want complimentary OWS then you have a ton of space and mats to get further down the board later.

    Hey great video! First game i would have gone 5,8,10 and 8,4,3 and started with the road to plow to the 6,3. That way you’re not reliant on just the 11 for ore, and pick up a 3:1 along with it!

  • @Schloopity
    @Schloopity20 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I prioritized keeping him off the 5 6 9, since it complimented his setup so well, but i desperately needed ore this game so the 8 4 3 spot might have worked out better :)
