I’m sorry…love or hate Joan…Oprah is the one who brought up that she gained 50 lbs. and she didn’t look too happy about it. Joan asked her how she gained the weight…which is not the same as calling her “fat”, but that’s how Oprah tells it. And honestly, I think Joan was being playful and humorous and trying to cheer Oprah on. I know that’s hard to grasp for some. I get it. But sometimes we need tough love when we are suffering. Oprah said she gained 50 lbs. and expressed interest in losing it. Joan then made a deal that if Oprah lost 15 of the 50 (not even half), she would lose 5. People do this all the time in life with gym buddies. Obviously they don’t have cameras pointing at them while they do it. But really, Joan was a Gemini and they have curious, child-like minds…so it wasn’t that unnatural a follow-up question after Oprah chose to bring it up *herself*.

In "Facts Of Life", she played Blair's step-sister who was giving up her wealth to become a nun. There was a television movie in which she played a "Jane" patronizing a teenaged male prostitute. She also appeared in a "Law and Order" episode as a corrupt local political figure. No matter how she has tried to be a "serious" or "bad" girl, she will forever be Jan Brady.

Awww, sweet Shelley. You can tell here that she was already within the midst of her mental illness. Even though she is so sweet and innocent and loves her animals, there is still something odd about her demeanor, appearance, and the quality/content of the subject matter she is talking about. She did not come off this way in years prior to this. There was definitely a transition into struggles. As a child, I absolutely loved Faerie Tale Theater. She really did an incredible job with that show.
