I guess we will never know what her performance would have been like were Jack Nicholson not heartlessly bullying her during the entire filming process. I was a huge fan of his until I watched the "Making Of" and getting smacked in the face with his macho bullshit.

She has always struck me as a nice person. Eccentric, yes, but in a charming way. I'd rather appreciate someone who is actually nice instead of fawning over horrible people like Kanye West, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, etc...

Yes, she seems sweet and down to earth, and also eccentric. It's sad to think that that eccentricity escalated into full-blown paranoid delusions, if you've seen her recent interview with Dr. Phil. I thought he handled it badly and I fear she won't get the help she needs.

Shelley is a very kind and caring person to take care of all those animals. Just love her soft voice.

She's so sweet. Love the way she talks.

SD is one of those icons who did her best films and work in the 1970s. She should be remembered for a slew a fine performances from that era.

I always liked Shelley Duvall. I think she is such a sweet person. I felt bad about the verbal abuse she took on set from Stanley Kubrick during the making of The Shining... Which was actually being filmed in 1979 when I was born. I don't know the exact production dates, but I know they did a lot of filming in '79 for the 1980 release. That was one of my all time favorite movies by the way :)

She was awesome in those 70s' Altman films. My favorites are 3 Women, Brewster McCloud and Thieves Like Us. Terrific actress! I also had a bit of a crush on her. I understand she's not doing well. That sucks. I certainly hope she pulls through it all.

She was 45 in this 1994 interview. Please search for a 1989 interview with Arsenio Hall, also available on KZread. She looks and sounds completely different in the two interviews. I guess she must have started to deteriorate prior to 1994... I wish only the best for her and I hope that her family will get her the professional help she needs.

I was thinking the same thing after watching this. If you read her bio, she started a relationship in 1989 that I believe she is still in to this day. It may be a coincidence, but abusive relationships have consequences.

​@@creeper2054I remember her house got damaged in the earthquake in 1994...and she admitted she was tired of Hollywood, how unfeeling it was, and tired of dealing with logistics of rebuilding her house...so she moved back to Texas...and her brother was ill during this time as well

They did an outstanding job on popeye. She was perfect for the role and did a outstanding job. She was perfect. They all were perfect for each role. She is such a great actress and a great person 😃👍

Just saw her in Blanco Texas!! She pulled up to the building I was selling on 8th Street and 281 and started to cry... I told her, "Lady, I`m leaving town but the building is staying here!!" It was the old Feed store and she said she always wanted to live in it... I did and it wasn`t that grand.

Awww, sweet Shelley. You can tell here that she was already within the midst of her mental illness. Even though she is so sweet and innocent and loves her animals, there is still something odd about her demeanor, appearance, and the quality/content of the subject matter she is talking about. She did not come off this way in years prior to this. There was definitely a transition into struggles. As a child, I absolutely loved Faerie Tale Theater. She really did an incredible job with that show.

1:40, I think she misunderstood the question. The answer didn't make sence for the question. A couple of years ago, I heard rumors that she was losing her mind or something, and I felt bad about that, because she always seemed like one of those good actors that got lost in Hollywood and disappeared. But I've always thought she was great and put everything into her characters. She needs to make more movies. I'll go see them. All the best Shelly!!!

I’d like her to take part in voice acting. Heck, if they did a movie based off of the video game, Infamous Second Son, she would do a wonderful job playing as Betty (and no I’m not calling Shelley fat). I don’t know. The movie industries making a movie based on that video game though is not even close to being likely. I just would like to see how she works with modern day filming.

I came here today because i´ve heard about the "Dr." (Haha) Phil Interview for the very first time. It is a shame, that he did, what he did. And i hope, she is doing better and that she is well. What makes me think a little bit about this interview is the amount of pets she owns. This is called "animal hoarding" nowadays. It is hard to believe that 3 people are enough to take good care of so many animals.

She is real genius odd people like this are very. Very great at their work!!!!

I wouldn't use the word loony, which is kind of dated and negative. But she's definitely "off" here. Perfectly sweet and in touch with reality, certainly, which sadly she no longer is. Now, there is no denying how severely ill she is.

Maybe not the best word choice, but yes. There was something "off" about her that of course became much worse as the years went on. It's interesting/scary to think how many people we encounter who are similarly "off." Getting mental illness diagnosed and treated is so difficult. When someone has a broken leg, they know it's broken and needs to be healed. When someone has paranoid delusions, they "know" the doctor is in on it and wants to kill them, so they stay away. Horrible.

One favorite movie he voice acts in that I like is Robots, playing as Fender. The part where Fender got hit by a giant hammer and then went flying through the air was hilarious 😂😂😂😂

@TheToothGame Even if they did make another Popeye flick I doubt they'd have Duvall in it playing Olive Oil again. Duvall wouldn't be PHYSICALY suited to the role for one thing. She isn't really thin like she used to be. She got a little bit heftier as you can see in the vid here. They'd surely have to get another actress to play that role .

@msmalin762 Yes, I`m telling the truth. Why would I lie about someone I don`t know and don`t care about.... It`s even in her Wikipedia bio which I looked up after I met her. She seems to have a hoarding problem related to her love of children and some TV show she had.... This info is now about a month old. I left town on Jan. 27th Hope this helps. She is somewhat reclusive but she must have utility bills. I would start by calling city hall and telling them you`re family...

All I keep hearing is the shining, the shining .... was that the only movie shelly was in??

Her answer made perfect sense! She first answered, 'no, I don't think they will make a new Popeye film..' then she went on to explain the audience expectations and the reality of live-action films. In regards to her 'loosing her mind' unless you back up that statement without a 'a friend of a friend of friend told said..' then STOP SPREADING SHIT ABOUT PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET. She is in good health, found more important things to do with her life then chase fame... Don't spread crap.

So rude to make comments that she doesn't have kids. None of the presenters damn business, she works with children, and interacts with children so obviously likes children, so why mention something that must be an obvious personal reason. Maybe she couldn't have kids for health or other reasons, maybe she didn't want to be a mum, or maybe she chose not to have kids, maybe she didn't have any options. How intrusive.

@Freline This is the problem with society especially the older generation who are most of the people in these comments calling shelley crazy.. its completely ignorant and uneducated of them to call her crazy and these horrible things. so many people have mental struggles and its people like this who get me so mad cuz they use mean words and make fun of people who have to deal with this stuff. No wonder Shelley loves animals more than humans. most of us are terrible to be around.
