Time & Tide Plans

Time & Tide Plans

Welcome to Time & Tide Plans a printable planner shop on Etsy. Everything I do here is to help myself and others organize our overall thoughts, interests, and priorities so that we can get to work pursuing what we want.

My name is Jennifer Donogh, I’m the proprietor of the shop and I live on a 41 foot sailboat with my family in the Pacific Northwest. In order to design my life like this, I have spent years getting myself together.

What has helped the most is improving my ability to focus. I did this by using a tangible productivity system that I can shuffle instead of cross off. When I don’t get to something it’s not weighing me down the next day. It’s a proven concept that women have been using for decades in managing their households.

What sets me apart from others, is that index cards, or 3x5s are my primary mode of planning for organizing my to do list and knowing what to do next. I make videos that help you find creative ways of using them in your home and passion projects.

    Thanks for this explanation and review of the fun deck cards. I bought this set but haven’t started using it yet. I plan to print the cards and start using them this week. I’ve been missing your videos lately. Good to see this one pop up.

    Great video. I'd like to know how it's going with your morning pages three years later. I started Morning Pages only 36 days ago, and it's intriguing to see what has developed, as each day I have no idea when I start writing. There are these characters that have appeared: Dr Ik, who speaks on behalf of my conscious rational self; Idio, who is the great repository of everything my senses have digested, and brings back memories from the past, and long forgotten childhood memories too; Geni, the tutelary spirit, with her hope, insights and wisdom (she is a woman of few words at present); Lucidia, the winged scribe who captures little details, like the candle burning low, the wind outside, or rain falling, etc. She makes no judgements, but only captures data like a stenographer. And then finally there's the antagonist Squawk, the raven, critical and bitingly truthful, who will gloat at putting the mirror of past sins and present fears in my face. Together we are sailing on a yacht to Elysian Bay across the ocean.

    Not going to read all the other replies, but my take away from walking a lot is, a, if you can't do it you are mentally weak, b, doing it for weight loss not going to work, c, calorie counters on step trackers are way off, d, all the things she talks about facetime etc, you are on a stroll, not a walk, a walk is 4 to 4.5 mph

    I have not been able to figure this out… HOWEVER, I just put together my 12-week year plan and this is what I’ve decided!!! I’m not going to work with your regular index card system (this first time). I’m only going to focus on my 12-week year. I already have all my rhythms and routines down, so I don’t need cards to do any of those things. But, I have a couple larger projects I want to finish before November. So, my new goal is to do two back to back 12-week years and then in 2025 I’ll decide if I want to keep the focus going on new 12-week years and if I need to add in rhythms and routines to my card deck. I’m MUCH older than you so this deck is hard for me to do because most of the cards don’t even apply to me so it was just too confusing. I’m hoping by FINALLY doing a 12-week year I’ll be motivated to keep this practice going one right after the other. I have so many projects I want to complete, so I just need to get started and I’m hoping this shift will make this possible. I’ll let you know. BTW, I’ve missed seeing your videos!! I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer.

    You should check out the HB90 system! She teaches (I can’t remember her name) how to do the 12 week year but has you map out the time you have available before mapping out your goals.

    Hi Jenn, I'm struggling with your index card planning system. It's really difficult for me to know how long tasks will take. When I create the 12-week plan, I tend to be too ambitious and plan too many hours each day. Could you make a video addressing time blindness and provide tips on how to plan more realistically? Thank you!❤

  • @timeandtideplans
    @timeandtideplansАй бұрын

    Happily! Thank you for the suggestion. In the meantime, an exercise that has helped me is to track my time. Laura Vanderkam's book, 168 Hours talks about this concept and how to do it for improving your scheduling. With that being said, I still struggle with being realistic about how long things take me (or when it comes to things I do want to do and am putting them off - how little time they actually take). Have your read The 12 Week Year - I know, another book 🤣A tactic you could use from the book is to time block your day. Incorporating a "buffer hour" - an hour of time to take care of what you didn't get done or a designated time in your day where you'll focus on whatever the day brings up you hadn't planned for. I have a video where I time blocked here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYZ1q9SJhpa7lqg.html

    Jenn, are your cards typing paper or card stock? I noticed they don't get creased or wrinkled. (never mind, I just read all the comments on this video, you had already answered my question! 😄)

  • @timeandtideplans
    @timeandtideplansАй бұрын

    🙌 just your regular printer paper on everything, but the dividers. They do get wrinkly if I put them in my pocket or my purse for reference. Sometimes they get coffee or food stains if I have them sitting on the counter, but I can just print out a new one if it gets too bad.

    Great video! Thanks Jenn. I really enjoyed the way you showed bits of doing the actions on your cards and the grouping of cards is an effective method of organization. I break down jobs that have multiple steps into separate cards and group them, such as sort laundry, wash laundry, dry laundry, put away laundry. That way I do a step of laundry and shuffle that card and if I get interrupted, I can pick up where I left off later.

    Pens are so important. I use different types for different things. I placed an order for the same kind you use and I love them so much. They are perfect. I have a one that has darker ink and is heavy metal and short in length. I love its balance and keep one in my purse. I use it for taking notes in church and jotting down reminders when I’m out on errands and such. But the ink is watery and the pen bleeds onto my clothes at times.
