How I'm Meal Planning for Weight Loss with Index Cards in 2024

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Using index cards for my meal plan in 2024 is not new for me - but being more mindful of what I eat for weight loss is something I have not been doing consistently. I'm focusing in on that by adjusting my card deck to reflect my focus on fitness and nutrition.

I am a working professional woman whose kids have grown and have my husband and dogs that I feel directly responsible for. I then have my grandkids and adult children at my home often. I travel weekly and have often struggled with the balance of taking care of myself, my home, and being there for my family and friends. This system has REVOLUTIONIZED my every day activities. I want to say thank you for being willing to share your process. I also want you to know that with each video that comes out, I can see and hear the 12 week year working. I am actually beginning to move my work planning to 3x5 cards that work with the technology we use for strategy and project planning. Thanks again, appreciate you.

I❤the card system. It will be laminating my cards I have to touch a lot. I am building a meal planning binder for my aging eyes, of our tried and true recipes. I print it in 12pt font with a picture of the finished product. I then laminate it for spills. I will be creating cards with just the name of the recipes and the needed ingredients. I see the card more helpful for its movability of the recipe.

I am trying to simplify everything!! I also have your aging eyes!! Plus, my handwriting has gotten messy over the last few years. So, like you, my recipes are staying in my notebooks. Enjoy!!

I want to say thank you for explaining how you file away your index cards… what I mean, when you made the comment you file your cards in front of the divider. That makes so much more sense to me than how I’ve filed stuff my whole life. The last couple of days I’ve been going through my recipe notebooks and I implemented your suggestion and I already love it. While I haven’t gone with your index card method YET, I’m still thinking about it and working through some of it in my head. It’s a big change for me to make, but I’m curious. As I have time I’m watching more of your videos to help me figure this out. Thank you.

@@debbyjo123 I am getting used to the fact that I don't have to do it all at once... For some cards I do as much as I can, then shuffle it to the next day/week/month and forget about it - it's much less stress, and I know things will get done and caught up eventually.. so, be patient with yourself, and forget about many things you "need" to do, which can be daunting, and concentrate on the day's cards! I tell myself it'll all come around eventually!

This was such a great video. Thank you. I see many things I can adjust in my card deck. I am doing the 12 Week Year to work on my goals and the S.H.E. System for household management, gardening, and canning actions. For now they are in separate boxes, but I am starting to see where I can reduce and combine them . Some of the actions do overlap. I also keep a journal that works for topics like doctor visits, church notes, and meal action reminders. The journal gives me a 2 page spread of 1 week at a glance. I like the journal for seeing everything summarized in a couple of words with time stamps. I have purchased your cards and worked with them in Canva. I think the heavier paper will work well for the dividers.

I watched this even though I’m not focused on weight loss, but I still got some useful ideas from it: If I transfer the recipes I get from eMeals, I can have my son cook if I’m staying late at work. I use Butcher Box so I can make cards to thaw meat two days before I want to prepare it. Freezer and pantry inventories have never worked for me because I’m never going to adjust it weekly, but if I have an easy-to-access card every day, I can adjust as I cook. Thanks for the inspiration!

I’m so sorry to bother you!! I just started watching you and like I’ve told you a couple times, I’m so curious about this system. Well, I decided to jump in and buy several of your index card sets in your Etsy store. I spent a good bit of yesterday cutting everything out and now, I’ve got piles stacked on the guest bed. I don’t know how to put this all together. I have watched so many of your videos, but I’m not finding anything basic… if you see this, would you be able to point me to a video showing me how to put all the packages together. Also, I have heard you mention a few times about pink cards… which cards are supposed to be pink. I guess I don’t buy that package. Maybe it was the FUN package… I don’t have time for fun. 🤣. Thank you so much. I sure hope I can figure out how to put these in order. I’ll worry about actually starting this system on Monday. 😅. Thank you.

Happy to help! I organize a fresh card deck in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/gWtkk6WEmLTehps.htmlsi=TpBusK84YPbz6uXC - but you're right, it doesn't have all of the cards offered. 1. If you haven't yet, you might want to give Sidetracked Home Executives a read. I would start by determining what your weekly rhythm will be - when will you clean, when will you organize, etc. 2. Organize your dividers - the dates 19-31 will be in front of the January divider. Dates 1-18 will be in front of February. Behind those dividers will be March-December. Behind the monthly dividers are the misc. dividers if you choose to use them. So, Blanks, Meals, Storage, etc. Organize those dividers based on your needs or as is. If you're incorporating the rolodex, place the alphabetical dividers in there as well. 3. Then start by organizing the Just Get Started Card Deck - just household management items based on your weekly rhythm. For example, Mondays for me is laundry, washing the floor, and wiping down kitchen cabinets. Tuesdays I focus on the bathroom, Wednesdays I tackle communication items, Thursday is touching on the pantry and fridge, Fridays are dusting and linens, Saturdays are organizing and preparing for the week ahead. 4. Pink cards are for personal tasks that make you feel good about yourself - or fill your cup. They are items like taking time to read, journal, and if needed get dressed. 5. Getting deeper into the card deck, if you want to keep track of storage - complete the labels to place on storage boxes and note what is in the boxes to the corresponding label. Keep the storage notes in your card deck for quick reference. 6. Complete contact cards with people you correspond with. Add birthdays and other personal information to help you stay informed throughout the years. 7. Add recipe cards in front of the meals divider. As you plan your meals for the week, etc. you'll place the needed recipe card in front of the date the corresponding meal is planned. 8. Home renovation cards are added as needed. For example, if you need to declutter a shed by a certain month, add notes to the card, then place the card in front of the monthly divider the task is needed. 9. Just Wanna Have Fun Cards are ideas for fun activities to prioritize curiosity and fun - not just cleaning. Find cards you're interested in incorporating and add to the monthly dividers you'd like to plan them for. 10. Holiday cards are similar. Place the activity in front of the month you would like to take care of the task. For example, place gift lists and budget in front of July if you'd like to make sure your Christmas gifts are done early. Place the card for getting decorations ready in front of November to make sure you have time to review what you have on hand. I hope this helps! - Jenn

I am loving this way of organising. You have opened my mind to a totally different way of planning. I have watched the 12 week set up but was wondering if there is a way to use these daily for your 'to-do' list that isn't home based. The 12 week is a little broader, even though it is all actioned into 12 weeks, but what do you do for daily goal related planning / journaling where you would have a 'top 3' important tasks for the day? Would you do a separate card the night before ready for the next day? Hope that makes sense, I would love to leave my journal / planner - I have used the passion & the full focused planner and not sure how to transfer the unknown daily / weekly tasks that come up along the way. I have the overall milestones / tasks for the 12 weeks written out it is just a place for the daily work, business or errands that I am stuck with or hit the wall with the system. Thank you. Also, LOVE watching your videos - you are just a beautiful soul.

That's so awesome! I've had a few people wondering what to do with the single action items that come up. I don't always write them out, unless it's something I'm anxious about, I need all of the information gathered in one place, etc. When I need it, I write out a card, file it or leave it out. I repurpose a card I've used in the past that was in my blanks divider. Then, when it's done I recycle it. Other people have said they use a blank card to create a checklist for the day - or like you said, a top 3. Hope that helps!
