Break Down my Day with Me - Index Card Planning

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How I use my index card planner throughout my day - less deciding what to do, and more reviewing what the plan for the day at hand is, then executing it.
For more on the card deck see this video, the description and comments if you're new to using index cards in your planning: • How I Plan 2024 with I...
Thank you for being here and seeing how I use my card deck in a day. So far my January has really had very little "typical" days - how about you?
As a liveaboard I know my days don't always look relatable, but most people have some form of window covering in their homes. Technically I haven't recently had a card that's on rotation to clean my curtains. Maybe if I would have had it in my card deck I would have cleaned them sooner? I used to have one in my card deck in the house and was pretty on top of it. To be fair, washing the curtains then was much less of a job than it is now.
For those of you who are getting back into using index cards in your home management, or are new to the planning method -- how are you doing so far?

I’ve been using this for a couple weeks now, and it’s the only system where I actually get things done. I love that it helps me to be productive, but doesn’t require a lot of time to set up each week. As fun as cute planners are, I just don’t have time to set them up each week/day.

I started the card deck at the beginning of January and I am loving it so far! You also motivated me to try the 12 week year with cards and that has been going awesome as well! Thank you!

I find this system so interesting. Set up my system to start in February. We shall see how it goes. I'm normally a hobonichi planner person, but wanted to try something different this year. Wish me luck! Thank you for your channel and the explanation of the system.

I've been using your card deck for a month now and it's been going so well! I love how this system is customizable to your needs. I also find it very helpful for managing tasks that are done every other week, monthly or seasonally (this is something I struggle with). Finally, it has helped me become aware of the fact that I try and schedule too much into a day. I just planned out February today, and it feels amazing to have a plan that works for the month (not just a bunch of to-do lists). Thank you Jenn! 😊

I know how you feel about time blocks. It’s difficult when you do so many different things. Sometimes I wish I could be 3 people. What I try to do now is dedicate each day for related tasks to do on that day only. But there are so many interruptions during my time blocks that I can’t do what I want to. But I don’t let it get me down. I just do what I can and slip the rest to a later date. That’s the beauty of this system.

Hi Jennifer! We're still on the road and will be until early Feb. Were stopping along the way to visit friends and when we stop we'll be in Florida for 2 months. I was wondering how your cards change when you're sailing and get into port for short stays. We also travel with a dog so he now has his own set of cards. Lol. Thanks again for keeping me organized.

Cards for pets is brilliant! The biggest difference for me is in appointment cards, garbage, laundry, and meal planning. I batch all of my appointment cards for when we are at the dock. The cards are a handy visual for garbage and laundry knowing that we need to be near a port as those cards approach. Meal planning and actually every task becomes more important to be on top of consistently when we are moving about - as you know.

I have been watching self-care videos on KZread like from Diane in Denmark, who is giving four self-care assignments you can chose from in her Friday videos and Mariane Cresp who had a video called how to use a self-care list in your planner. So index cards for fun tasks is a great idea! For your exercise card, what does snacks stand for? For extra steps, I like to use KZread walking videos like Leslie Sansone Walk at Home and Grow with Jo walking workouts!

Although a method that would work for me. I could see myself dropping the cards. I'm too clumsy for this method.

I love this - would make for some good slapstick comedy! A couple people have commented that they have made a digital version of it - maybe that would help? R a card box that lives on a countertop for reference?

I did actually drop mine off the desk and into the trash! 😅 It took less than 5 minutes to put it all back together. I wouldn't let that concern stop you. It's life changing in so many other ways!! 🎉

Are your cards regular copy paper or do you use different paper

The date & month dividers are a heavier cardstock - I just recently changed them from typical copy paper. However, all of the other cards are still 8.5 x 11 standard printer paper.

I know you're interested in your youtube videos and I thought I would make a comment in hopes that it helps you. 🙂 I am so bothered and distracted by the strange noise in the background that I have trouble listening to you. I can't quite call it music, it is some kind of sustained tone, and when it ended finally at 3:12 it was a gigantic relief. I was actually about to have to turn off the video. Just you talking is enough, and more than that is too much. Maybe not everyone has trouble concentrating, so this is just FYI and I hope it helps.
