Plan with Me January 2024 - Using Index Cards as My Planner

Let's do a "plan with me" for the month of January 2024 - the first month of the new year - yay! I am really not in the mood to confront normal life just yet, but I did a little bit of planning while my husband was off paddling.
Note this is not a fresh planner - but an index card system I cycle through each month. If you're new to this concept I have a few videos that break it down here: • Index Cards for Home M...

I'm a husband and dad of 4 kids 4 and under who owns a business. We are really serious about home culture and I'm using this to keep on top of managing all the things I'm responsible for! Not sure how many men are here, but this is a valuable tool... The "man version" is less attractive but still functional! Thanks for all you do!

I am loving your videos so much! I never comment on KZread but I had to tell you! I started using this system in December and it’s like this perfect solution for the issue I was having with bullet journaling. I didn’t look at my longer term storage in my BJ. Now I can just shuffle things back to a month for the future 🤯 Also, things like affirmations I’m actually looking at with this so they are actually helping! I also used to use clipboard planning in hard seasons. This is like the clip board + the bullet journal+ the longer term storage of ideas like Christmas stuff all rolled into one and I LOVE it. I actually make all my index cards and it satisfies artsy things I loved in the BJ. Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos! They are beautiful and functionally and really fun to watch! ❤❤

Very interesting how you do your system. I love index cards, planners and journals. I find it very soothing and relaxing just reading my cards and shuffling them every night. Even if I only complete 1 or 2 things I feel encouraged and more determined to complete more the next day. I am kind of an artsy person with many hobbies. But I also love routine and knowing what I’ll be doing from 1 day to the next.

So glad I found you again! For the new year I started the card system (for real this time lol). I changed it up so instead of date dividers I did weeks as a test. I remember in another video you said it was too much shuffling. As I need more time in the system could you elaborate a bit on your experience

  • @timeandtideplans

It really was that simple - it was just one more thing I was shuffling and I found I didn't need it as much as I thought I had. Doesn't mean it won't work for you- it sounds like you're doing something more creative than what I did of just adding a M divider, T, etc. to my date dividers. I also appreciate looking for dates, even though it's another step. It grounds me in time, knowing where I am in the month - silly, but I like it.

Same here! The first video I saw with the boat and I was like, "That's the Puget Sound!" The one during Christmas where she and family are walking around downtown Port Townsend, I saw the buildings and before she mentioned where, I said to my husband, "That's Port Townsend! I've been on that street!" It was great! It made me realize how much I miss good 'ole WA State. (I moved in June 2021 to corn country a.k.a. Iowa.) I really miss 'home' when she's out walking in the rain! I miss my 'liquid sunshine!"

@@icomeundone I think it depends on the 'venue' in which you started filing. In the offices I worked in, it was always behind the divider. I've now learned that in hospitality and military it's in front. I tried to change, but I'm back to behind. Still works with this system. You have to tweak aspects of any 'system' to work for you with your experiences. :)

@@timeandtideplansI’m wired to file papers in my filing cabinet in a hanging file system marked at the front of each file with an index tab. My career was in an office and we all filed behind the tab. I use index cards now but I always file behind the date. We have to do what is easiest for us! I really couldn’t file before the tab! BTW love the boat. I used to live aboard a 41’ Morgan.

And The 12 Week Year is a. Good reference too. Audio books are wonderful if you don’t have time to sit and read. Just a suggestion.
