Stinnett Sticks

Stinnett Sticks

This Channel is to display some of the walking sticks and things that I've made. I also enjoy sharing my love for the outdoors and some of the great things about the area I live in. So occasionally I will post videos of my dog Pearl and I as we trek the hills, looking for materials and enjoying the wildlife and scenic countryside.

If you are interested in carving you can find some of the tools that I use or am hoping to purchase on Amazon.com.

Thanks for stopping by and watching my videos and Thank you very much for your comments! I really enjoy reading every one and even if I don't get a chance to respond, I still appreciate you all!

Nice work. I'm betting the reference material served another purpose. Pearl does like fishing with you and eating a bit of the catch. Your videos are relaxing and satisfying to watch. A quieter slower life is a more content and happier life. Reminds me of my youth growing up in the country before I entered the rat race. I'm happy to say I'm back living in the country.

I've lost track of when I watched your first video. I think this one may be the first one. It's one of my favorites. Your little dog in this one and the fishing break was a great touch.

Your wood carvings would be the stuff of nightmares for my grandmother rest her soul. She told me when she was a girl walking in the field a snake got tangled up between her ankles and terrified her. She was afraid of snakes all her life. She told me that snake went for a heck of a ride her running her legs off. I can imagine. Your carvings are so good I wouldn't want to keep one like this next to my bed. Might give me a heart attack when I woke up during the night. And I'm not too afraid of snakes. Enjoy your videos. Your doggie is a very special friend to you and a nice part of your videos. Smart bringing you your hat. Probably thinking you'll return the good deed by going fishing again. That was a good video.

Your wood burning is so gentle that it is just lightly toasted wood pressing and I think that shows you have a real mastery of the technique.

To say this work of art is beautiful is simply not adequate. The amount of detail, tiny little detail, you put into your work is astounding. I stand in awe of your work. Thank you for sharing this.

I like it!! I was wondering if you are familiar with the Midland water snake, or a scarlet racer found in Oxnard ca. Not real common anymore. I will try to send a pic of the racer if I can find one. Both snakes are beautiful.

Just wanted to say thanks. I bought both your book and video and have just (June 2024) finished my own version of your project as walking stick with a handle. Living in NZ, we don’t have snakes in my country so it was something of a learning / discovery exercise. I carved the snake and stick from a block of Marocarpa timber which grows well here and carves well. The handle is a piece of cherry from a friends farm. My mother was Canadian from Alberta and Dad a NZr. So, I have tried to make my stick with a prairie rattlesnake on the shaft and the NZ tuatara (a native lizard whose lineage goes back 200 million years) on the handle. The two creatures probably never encountered one another in reality … but who knows. Mine cannot match your beautiful sticks but problem solving & learning is one of the enjoyable things about carving. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your videos and for your book and the how to video your sell. I enjoyed doing the project. Regards Phil

I'm really glad that you found my book and video helpful, Phil! I like the idea of adding a tuatara for the NZ animal. They are such unique lizards! I would really enjoy seeing pictures of what you made. If you would like, you could send some pictures to [email protected] Thank you for your great comment!
