I remember commenting years ago on your channel. Saying that I would love to reach your age and have that life in the mountains next to my wood, my home and the forests. Just like you. At that time I lived in the city and little by little I have been getting closer to that lifestyle. Currently I have a home in a small town between mountains, there are routes, there are forests, there are rivers around me. I managed to have a workshop in the garage of my home to do my work and finally, I have come back to visit you again, to realize that I have thought the same thing as you, and a week ago I order an electric mountain scooter to travel for all its distant routes. It seems incredible to me. Each one finds their way and has to form their own life, but I found it strange, even symbolic, the fact that you uploaded this video so recently, and I decided to come back to see how you were doing with your channel. You were an inspiration to me. Thank you very much for continuing to upload videos, I will keep coming back to see your work, and see how it goes.

you know i did some carving a while back in fat wood its really pretty when its finished . i just dont like how sticky it is it gums up carbide bits if you use a rotary tool and its not that nice to hand carving tools ether . but i tell ya what is really nice to carve in is willow wood its soft like pine but not sticky . cotton wood bark is also nice . i like mahogany as well but its a dusty easy to chip wood so you kinda got to be careful with it . and it must have some kinda irritant in it it always makes my eyes real dry and itchy . when i turned it on a lathe i would always have to wear a mask or i would cough for days . learned that the hard way . ive made a few things out of fat wood even a cane . that turned out real purty . it was kinda a hybrid half wood half aluminum so it had adjustability . was not as purty as your work but i still thought it was purty . yep your going to need a little trailer for that bike for sure . one of those kids tag along trailers would work ok im sure . or maybe a heavy duty garden wagon . you ride safe brother

Every wood type has it's particular challenges to work with. Fatwood is tough to work with, for sure! I keep a pot of boiling water close by, and when the burs get loaded up with resin, I put it in the water. It doesn't take long for the hot water to melt out the resin. Then I take a fine brass brush to clean the bur. I am going to try carving fatwood with a reciprocating carver. I'll bet that will work pretty good. I sure like the smell of carving it! I will be getting a trailer for hauling stick material soon I hope!

That was really cool its good to see you having some outdoor fun. Good info about the knots in the wood, I have never tried carving them but I will. Thanks Mike

Glad you enjoyed it, Joe! I had a good time out there! It's fun to take a natural pine knot and see what can be made out of it. They come in so many different shapes, and you can find them all over the woods.

Is there any chance you could go into detail on the wood burning and painting techniques you use? The type of paint and type of wood burner bits? I’m having a really hard time getting the realistic skin look! Also how you dry your wood to prevent cracking. I am a huge fan. If you ever decide to do an in person class I would pay a very pretty penny! You are so insanely talented!

Thank you very much! I've covered that information in pretty good detail in my book and tutorial video which can be found on my website stinnettsticks.com. The way to get realistic skin with acrylic paint is to build up the color with multiple transparent layers of paint, drying between layers. I haven't thought of doing in person, but It's something I will think about. Thanks again for your kind comment!

I'm glad you enjoyed the ride! The software that came with the insta-360 one x 2 camera automatically edits out the camera stand, but it can't edit out the shadow. I really like the camera. It makes it easy for me to film my adventures when I'm alone.
