Our whole economy is built around how much money you make. It determines where you live, how well your children are educated, what type 9f transportation you can afford or get a loan for. This will not work as jobs are removed from the human work force. So we really need to restructure the the way we measure success in our economy. Musk is pushing UBI. If we do not do something around this issue, as unemployment becomes greater and greater due to job losses social unrest will force change perhaps violently. So I am glad to see these issues are being discussed!

This dude is way off on so many things, especially COST. Nothing good from all these tech advances has been affordable. Your average car is over 40k, you have to pay monthly subscription to enjoy the tech portions of the car. The cheapest smart phones are over $700. You dont even get chargers or cord with it. Laptops and computers are more expensive than ever, even used ones. And these are throw away products that dont have long use life cuz microsoft and apple wont be supporting them after a certain amount of time. Teslas FSD is at least 6k. There's not a dam thing that has come down in prices that the average person can afford without buying them on credits. This whole game is built on debt. Its not a very sustainable way to do things. He forgets to mention apple will over price every new good tech and the rest of the markets will follow making high prices a normal thing. Every company or AP maker wants to use the tech advances to steal peoples DATA. Nothing good ever came from these tech except to enrich the people making them and the banks who are financing them. Either these advances will come to a crashing halt cuz somebody will rig the game to make even more money and power for themselves at the expense of everyone else or everything will have to be FREE FREE FREE cuz everyones going be out of a job due to these disruptive tech and the Humanoid robots and machines that are being run by AI.

The following short story was written by ChatGpt: In the year 2150, Earth faced a dire crisis due to overpopulation and dwindling resources. In a bold attempt to ensure the survival of humanity, the United Nations commissioned the construction of the Generation Starship "Hope's Horizon." This massive vessel was designed to transport a diverse group of individuals to a promising exoplanet within 5 light years of Earth, where they could establish a new civilization. The journey of Hope's Horizon was a monumental undertaking, spanning generations. The starship travelled for 20 years at 0.3 times the speed of light, carrying a crew of scientists, engineers, and pioneers who were tasked with ensuring the success of this ambitious mission. One of the key technologies that enabled the sustainability of the crew on their long journey was precision fermentation. This innovative method allowed for the efficient production of food and the management of waste within the closed ecosystem of the starship. Microorganisms carefully engineered to produce essential nutrients flourished in bioreactors, providing the crew with a steady supply of sustenance while minimising waste. Most of the day-to-day operations on board were carried out by a fleet of advanced robots. These robotic assistants maintained the ship's systems, monitored the health of the crew, and even performed complex repairs using 3D printing technology to fabricate spare parts as needed. To ensure the continued survival and genetic diversity of the crew, frozen embryos were stored on board, ready to be gestated in artificial wombs when new crew members were needed. This innovative approach allowed the crew to replenish their numbers without the need for natural reproduction in the limited confines of the starship. As the journey of Hope's Horizon continued into the depths of space, the crew faced many challenges and hardships. However, through their resilience, ingenuity, and unwavering determination, they persevered. The crew worked together as a cohesive unit, each member contributing their unique skills and expertise to sustain the essential functions of the starship. The minimum number of living crew required to sustain the essential functions not performed by robots was carefully calculated to ensure the long-term viability of the mission. A crew of at least 100 individuals was deemed necessary to maintain critical systems, oversee scientific research, and respond to unforeseen emergencies that could arise during the journey. As Hope's Horizon ventured ever closer to its destination, the crew remained united in their mission to build a new future on the distant exoplanet that awaited them. Together, they carried the hopes and dreams of humanity across the vast expanse of space, bound by a shared vision of a better tomorrow.

Modern humans have been on the earth for about 200,000 years. Recorded history however goes back only 7,000 years or so. In between that time there have been many catastrophes such as, diseases, glaciations, volcanic eruptions and meteor impacts that may have obliterated all records of past human accomplishment. Who knows what our species has done in the past, or where it went?

Eventually, robots/AI will perform the majority of "work" that humans now do. What will the humans do? How will humans get the food, shelter etc. that their work wages now provide? Do we need government provided funds for peoples basic needs? Will people be educated toward activities that they can enjoy and that can fill up their time? Currently, people that don't have jobs or money don't necessarily tend toward activities that are productive or the don't harm others?

What happens If instead of Utopia he gets a section 8 housing situation? What happens when no one has any incentive to work? If I can enjoy a millionaire's lifestyle just by having a bot why would I be a plumber? Since the 60s in the US we have seen the effects of trillions of dollars spent to eradicate poverty - it has only resulted into the deterioration of communities, families and the spread of degeneracy and addiction. And as for the middle and upper classes, wildly increasing prosperity has led to rampant depression.

I love the concept of the bots building more bots and factories. The multiplyive effect is huge for societal ROI. I do worry about the deflationary effect of all this cheap reliable labor and how products will be abundant and very low cost. Similarly, the question of purpose for humans needs to be discussed and the question of wealth redistribution via Universal basic income. Is equity the leading principle? Do we want to go down that slippery slope?

This guy's economics is trash. Its like an age old debate that he has heard both sides of and pretends he has heard it and basically endorses the forces of dumb. It almost sounded like he was going to say something smart at first because he was talking about voluntary exchange, what we are used to. I thought he had read my tweets or something. The dynamic of agency he talks about places robots into two camps the camp where humans have work and impose their definitions of rules onto a game to be optimized or the robots join us as market actors who have their own resources that they manage, money, goods, property that they trade on the market with other market actors like humans to find a niche and use economic calculation to make sure that the output is of greater value than the input, just like humans who need liberty to function well. This raises the question of who he wants to enslave to give away all this floor to help devolve the human race into blobs that are resented by the productive agents. I think this guy is running for president democratizing other people's stuff. If you are worried about AI safety, it is liberty. You will benefit from the division of labor as always without voting for Pedro. I must however give credit for presenting correct framing of the discussion that he chose to present the wrong conclusion to..

We've optimized the modern world for the generic human. What seems clear is that, at some point, we will be optimizing for the robots. They don't need to be exactly our form factor. As such, there will be subtle optimizations, perhaps context specific, that make the robot better than human. Seems inevitable.

Instead of thinking about folding laundry or mowing lawns, think about what this could do to our housing shortage. I envision a squad of robots who can do framing one day, plumbing the next, wiring, painting, trim work, siding, roofing etc. They could also do this day or night using the equivalent of night vision. So how much would an apartment building cost once smart robots can do most of this work? Also think how much faster this building could be constructed?

Humanoid robots replacing labor eliminates the variance of the price of labor as a major driver of the global economy. Where are you getting this from? They are not VR controlled? You have people collecting the data to train the neural net but otherwise they are running properly by themselves. They may use something like that to refine the physical design but the end product has nothing to do with being controlled by any individual

Wall-E “In the 29th century, Earth is a garbage-strewn wasteland due to an ecocide, caused by rampant consumerism, corporate greed, and environmental neglect.[19] Humanity is nowhere to be seen, having been evacuated by the megacorporation Buy n Large (BnL) to space on giant starliners, leaving trash compacting robots to clean up the planet, seven hundred years prior. The cleanup has failed and the last remaining active robot, a Waste Allocation Load Lifter: Earth-class (WALL·E), has developed a personality. WALL·E remains active by salvaging parts from other inactive robots and lives with his pet cockroach as his only companion in a large robot carrier truck.”
