Wonder if we should consider voting for dems. I'd feel so guilty, as they dislike Elon, but for EV's and Green Tech funding to keep going, that seems the only way.

I was a sceptic tbh. 4 months ago I bought a model 3, 2024 model. I will NEVER go back to a dirty combustion engine...ever! I think i can say it actually changes your life in such a positive way, it's amazing. It took a little while to shake the nerves and go on a long trip (600 miles round trip), but i bit the bullet and shouldn't have been worrined at all. It's so much fun, it charges fast, chargers are everywhere and if your nervouse, just plan your journey and you'll be fine. I don't really think too much about it now. The car tells me where to go and when and it's all good - the infastructure is on point atm. I live in the UK by the way. Hopefully, one day, everybody will be driving electic cars and we can really start to clean up the mess we've made of this planet. Thank you Elon.

I'd never ridden in one and reserved the CT. Just test drove a '24 base Model 3 and was blown away. I started reconsidering my CT reservation. All they have to do is get butts in seats and no one would ever look back

Very well said. I had the same experience and I'm in my early 60's. Going on 2 months Model Y ownership. It really does change your life in such a positive way if you're willing to let go and just take a small leap of faith. Who would have thought that one of the solutions (and we will need many) to helping Mother Earth recover from such ravages is, at the end of the day, so much fun and produces such a good feeling/experience overall? Yes indeed, thank you to the forward thinking engineers at Tesla. Thanks for taking the chance, going against the grain, and forging ahead with something truly compelling.

I purchased a used model 3 2019 model. I won’t ever go back. I love this thing. I recall how clean the air was during lockdown. Elon and the team will help us get back to that.

My wife and I bought a PAIR of Mach Es in 2021. We will never go back to gasoline. No gas stations, no oil changes, no water pump, fuel pump, transmission, exhaust, radiator, fuel injectors, alternator , belts...... In 48,000 miles, we've saved $1,390.00 on oil changes alone. We save at LEAST $0.10 per mile over gasoline saving another $4,800 on fuel. Best thing is, 92% of our charging is at night in the garage.

I've done the sums and total cost of ownership as we will be buying another new car soon. When you factor in the extra cost, depreciation, opportunity cost on the additional money spent on the vehicle and home chargers etc they just don't stack up for us at all. Given the other compromises as well we will be buying pure ICE again unless something changes soon.

I never drive to work and say................"Oh shit, I'm out of gas" Then pull over to wait in line for the lawn maintenance people to let me have access to a pump. No more buying junk at the gas station. Driving my car for 50..............yes FIFTY dollars a month. It's bananas. Absolute bananas.

@@jasonziter So how much more did you have to pay for it over an ICE vehicle and how badly has it depreciated already? Sure hope you didn't finance a more expensive vehicle to try and save a few bucks on petrol/diesel.

I've owned a Model 3 since July 2020 and can vouch for the Consumer Reports rating of Tesla as being the leader in low-cost maintenance. Over the nearly 4 years of my ownership experience, I have had zero trips to the Tesla Service Center, and the only maintenance tasks required were refilling the windshield washer fluid tank and keeping the air pressure in the tires properly inflated. My previous car was an older Chevy El Camino (which, incidentally, was used as Junior's daily driver in the Hawaii Five-O tv series). It broke my heart to sell that ICE ride, but the maintenance-free life with my Tesla has convinced me that EVs are the only way to drive.

My first ev was a 2012 Ford Focus electric with a range of 80 miles on a good day. I even made that work with zero charging infrastructure. I haven't driven an ice as my daily driver since then. Now I drive a 2024 Model Y which I love.

I'm a tech person. I'm always amazed how fast the technology improves. I bought a very early digital camera for science/school projects for my kids. It was usable but basically obsolete 2 years later. EVs are in their infancy. There is so much money and innovation going into EVs we will barely recognize them in 5 years. Driving an ICE vehicle will feel like watching a black an white tube TV.

I thought similarly, but I bought a model y back in 2021, anyways. It's been 3 years and I regret nothing. Dozens of road trips all over the country. Nothing feels like it's obsolete, there still isn't a compelling vehicle that would make me sell mine.

I own a Model 3 LR for over five years - it is one of the first few Model 3 's in Germany - maintenance and repair costs in total 210 €. The second TüV (german car monitoring facility) visit was flawless and the tester thought the brakes were new installed, but they are not they from 2019. The Model 3 is absolutely reliable. Great car!

Hey Farzad, I love this. Tesla needs to become considerably more visible to the general public. Despite the Model 3, Model Y, and even the Cybertruck (people buy overpriced gas trucks for $80-100K) being cheaper and more powerful than the ICE competition, the general public just doesn't know basic EV facts. I bought my Model Y Long Range AWD three years ago. I did not know anyone who owned a Tesla, although I had met a woman in her 80s happily driving an immaculate, older Model S. It seemed quite doable. Tesla needs more showrooms, even if only temporarily, to get the word out. They also need real live TV ads that explain the basics while showing people having fun driving their cars in regular ways - with families, bicycles, stuff on the roof rack, etc. Don't be afraid to talk about the price of the car and charging. Explain how charging at home is so inexpensive in comparison to gas. Talk safety and crash tests. Buying a Tesla eliminates the sleazy car sales tactics, jacked up prices, undercoating, special overpriced services, etc. Maybe even help people get a charger installed at their house.

Government is subsidizing ev adoption. Once the subsidy is gone they will nose dive in sales. Customers want hybrids not ev.

This is the kind of content that I enjoy from you. It's stright foward and makes sense.

I live in BC Canada, and am on my 4th EV since my first purchase in 2019. According to BC EV incentive program, The Province's suite of Go Electric programs are exceeding original targets and B.C. has the highest rate of EV adoption in the country. In 2023, approximately 23% of light-duty vehicle sales were EVs, an increase from 18% of sales in 2022. I live on the Sunshine Coast and that adoption is even higher as we have more EV's per capita than any other region in North America. In BC we are more environmentally proactive than other parts of the country.

BC is not environmentally proactive, instead the climate is more conducive to buy and ride an EV. One of the big problems with EV's is the loss of range in very cold climates when you need it more with the heat pump going full blast. I would not buy an EV in Ontario or Alberta with the extremely low temperatures in winter especially when you add the wind chill factor to it.

I’ve had my model 3 in Alberta for over 2 years. Yes I loose range in the cold. So I go from 550 to 330. Still lots of range! Never had a problem. Put 70000km on it 99.9% in Alberta. Also this year we had -47C and starts with no issue when not plugged in all night. How may gas cars will even start in that temp when not plugged in?

@@Calgarylinepainter1 You make a valid point with freezing cold starts with an ICE vehicle without an engine block heater, but most ICE vehicles in Alberta would have an engine block heater and so a cold start should not be an issue. You obviously have a Tesla Model 3 Long Range for a regular 2 wheel drive Model 3 would have issues with range in -47C weather losing about 40% power or more if taking 2 to 5% battery degradation in account per year. When you have your heat on full blast in your Tesla Model 3 how much power does that consume and affect your range in -47C weather?

My life partner and I both have EVs - I have a 2023 Tesla Model Y LR (Austin-built) and he has a 2023 Mustang Mach-E Extended Range. My sister just leased a 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD a couple of weeks ago. All of us love our cars and agree we'd never go back to gas. The benefits and convenience of EVs over gas are obvious (charging at home, significantly less cost to charge vs gas, not affected by global oil supply and prices, no oil changes and tune-ups) and the driving experience is superior to gas (no transmission, high performance, quiet). As more people understand this, gas will die. I also like the fact that Russia, Iran, OPEC, etc no longer will have a stranglehold on the world.

Agreed There's a mix of influence peddling, corruption, propaganda, arrogance, ignorance, etc...

The problem I have with these tariffs aside from the fact that what they will do is temporarily give the legacy automakers more time to sell bullshit to the Americans. When in truth Chinese cheaper options would force them to compete. This is not unfair. This is exactly what the consumer wants, but because this government is so married to the interests of business over the people, it would rather create these tariffs and sustain high prices for lower quality products in America. Then simply allow the Chinese products to come in Forest competition and see who survives and who thrives. That's the way it should work. Shouldn't be about trying to protect businesses. Fuck businesses. It should be about if a business needs to die in order for our people to get cheaper products, then that's what happens. Should always be people first over business

The 2024 election will depend greatly on a handful of states where legacy auto is a major part of the state economy and lots of voters earn their paycheck either directly or indirectly from legacy auto. By supporting legacy auto this administration is doing exactly what the people want. At least the majority of people in the states that will decide the election.

The President belives that delaying the ev with tarift for China ev will save the OEM's but they are going directly into another basnkrupcy. The tarifts just promote , that no change is good, and that is not the truth.

As always love your videos Farzad.❤ I totally disagree with a consumer report report though. -- There's absolutely NO way it would cost $4,000 to maintain a Tesla over 10 years. Tesla is not even close to the price of an ICE vehicle to maintain. We are 5 years in, and under 200 bucks. Tires will need to be replaced soon, but other than that it's virtually nothing. Just my personal experience.

ICE companies are doing such a pathetic job of transition they are doing everything they can to slow the markter. Maybe they should stop spending money on the lobbing and start doing what they are supposed to be do build cars for the future. Then again as their customers are share holders not us here we are.,

Legacy Stealerships do NOT desire to sell EV’s because they make the vast majority of their profits servicing and repairing ICE cars. EV’s will generate much less revenue and profit in their service centers than they have become accustomed to.

The fundamental principle of capitalism is competition. The fundamental principle of communism is centralized control. Right now big oil and the us government have centralized control...through energy...what ever price they set...you have to pay! CENTRALIZED CONTROL! Control the economy and money...they control the people. True energy Independence for all! Produce & store your own energy!

It's protectionism. It's not the 1st time the US had to resort to such policies to compensate for the US' inability to compete. One of the problems is there are still states, and New Hampshire is one of them, that have zero incentive to adopt EVs or renewables. New Hampshire relies on Gas taxes and State sold hard liquor to help fund the State government. One of the best, or actually the only charging networks in New Hampshire is Tesla's. CCS/VW America is virtually nonexistent, and as good as Tesla's network is, there are sections of the state that have no supercharging presence. The other issue is that, in support of my statement of NH having no incentive to adopt evs,, is if a car owner doesn't have a house and or a garage with level 2 chargers, then the convenience of owning an EV diminishes rapidly, I had an I4 M50 for a few weeks, but charging in a CCS sparse state didn't work ( for me). That in itself is interesting as most of the EVs sold in New Hampshire are CCS-based, yet there's no realistic infrastructure to support them, which in turn feeds quite well into the belief that EVs are inconvenient. Depending upon what you own in New Hampshire, that statement is very true, and that won't be changing anytime soon.

@@andrewbetances1203 EVs are much faster than 5 mins. It’s under 30 secs to plug in and 30 secs to unplug. I sleep while it charges taking zero time away from my day. Try it….you might like it.

It's interesting that in Europe / Austria many people are obviously also not well informed how costs of a vehicle are put together. Beeing a BMW Owner for the last couple of years, I decided to buy an Tesla MYP one year ago, primarily because of Cost / Benefit reasons. Although I am a "petrol head" the value which I get for the money from Tesla is in my point of view "Mind Blowing" and its absolutely a fun drive. But keeping this asside you have to pay much less taxes in Austria vor EVs than for cars with internal combustion Engines. In addtion you have much less costs for charging (considering the high efficency of a tesla, whcih does not apply for every EV) than for a tradtiional car. Especially if you would compare this with a + 500 BHP tradtional car. But even taking a look at the pure price: A Volkswagen Passat which is comparealbe to a model 3 starts at 48K Euro in austria. Playing a bit with the configurator you will easly reach 60-70k Euros. In contrast A model 3 starts at 42K Euros and M3P costs 57K which is a compareable price of an average VW Passt which has around 200 BHP. If I would add here the longterm operational costs (taxes, Fuel, Service) to this equation between an EV and for example a VW Passat, the price difference will get even more extreme. I think most people that buy for example a VW (non-EV) are not aware of the real costs of a vehicle...

I prefer plug-in hybrids BECAUSE of my particular situation and my driving needs.

My next car is a Tesla that's it. I will never give the greedy CEO a dime again when it comes to cars.

I just bought a used Bolt and received a total of 7K in federal and State incentives which made buying it a no brainer. Even though I benefited from the incentives I think if all residential solar, EV, and special tax loopholes for the petroleum industry were redirected to the electric grid and large scale renewable projects with batteries the free market would direct the manufacturers without mandates.

I drive Uber in my Tesla Model 3, and I’ve done thousands of rides ,and the insane level of ignorance and just plain false information held by the general public is astounding. After having a 5-10 min convo with most passengers that have misinformation and a bias AGAINST EVs, specifically Tesla, they’re typically ready to buy one or at least are strongly considering it. My intent is never to convince them to buy one, but to give them accurate information. As more people gain factual data about EV ownership and the minimal maintenance cost compared to ICE vehicles, it will only be a matter of time before more than 50% of all new car sales will be EVs in the United States. At this point it’s almost laughable when people try to fight or argue against EV (Tesla specifically) ownership because objectively, there is not a compelling argument against it any more, other than personal preference and emotions. For most people it’s merely a lag in accurate information.

I would be very skeptical of believing any ICE car of having only $4,900 of maintenance over 10 years. By the 130,000 mile mark there is a lot to go wrong.

Everyone I know is getting hybrids, not electric, hybrids are fantastic now, drove one the other day, shxts all over all EV and no standing around waiting for charging.

We went from a couple of Model 3s to our BYD Seal. Something special. It's China time in the EV era and 'protection' is inbreeding > irrelevance.

Great video. It’s getting harder and harder to deny the fact that the EV tidal wave is coming when studies like this (and a recent report from the IEA) highlight the transportation disruption. Regardless of one’s personal view of Elon Musk, I think it’s also absolutely a shame that Tesla is not highlighted as an incredible “made in USA” success story, especially now that China is so far ahead of the legacy auto companies and only Tesla can really compete (profitably) with them. Whenever possible, Mr. Musk and Tesla are constantly portrayed as “the enemy” but may ultimately be the last auto company standing when the Chinese EV’s do arrive. As a side note I am also rooting for Rivian, Lucid and a start-up called Aptera headquartered here in my town of Carlsbad, CA.

Farzad, have you heard of BRICS? An intergovernmental organization of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. This could be a huge accelerant to the renewable energy transition and a new currency. Full speed ahead!

The 100% tariff is trying to protect against the rapid demise of the US ICE market which would otherwise be accelerated by the importation of affordable Chinese EVs over the next 5 years. This would create massive turmoil and unemployment in the traditional ICE industry - car manufacturers, suppliers, and dealers. The tariff is just to ease the pain.

Truly unstoppable. Here is a quote about the sales of evs for 2024: "While annual EV sales continue to grow in the U.S. market, the growth rate has slowed notably. Sales in Q1 rose 2.6% year over year, but fell 15.2% compared to Q4 2023. The increase last quarter was well below the previous two years".

I don't know how effective those tariffs will be. If the Chinese open factories in Mexico I understand those cars would be exempt from the tariffs because of the North American free trade agreement, but I could be wrong.

Yes. Chinese companies could open factories in Mexico and sell EVs in the US with no tariffs. But I'm not sure China will rush to do this. There's a good chance that China will use its surplus production to grab the auto market in non-US parts of the world. There are plenty of buyers in Asia, Africa, South and Central America, Mexico, and even in Europe to more than consume what China can produce right now and for the near future. That is likely to leave the US an EV island with Tesla being the main player in the short run. I think it likely that Tesla will solve full self-driving before the end of 2025 and start large scale manufacturing of robotaxis. If that happens then the US will go from mostly ICEVs (including hybrids) to robotaxis. Legacy auto will have screwed itself.

Biden doing things that don't work or make any sense is normal. There has to be a fully baked potato mumbling words and pea brains take it and run to sign up for debt. Can't afford electricity? State shutting your power off? Why not invest in a depreciating asset worse than a truckload of over ripe avocados. All food references because the cost of that is also out of this earth.

EV's are unstoppable. I've seen alot of Teslas on the road. However, I'm starting to see more. For instance, I've seen three Lyriqs in the past two weeks. I've also seen at least 2 Rivian R2's, I've seen a couple of ID4's, and two Ionic 5's. So, they are getting more ubiquitous as time goes by. This is what I think. EV sales are falling. No, not really. I think the RATE OF INCREASE of EV sales is falling. I still think their sales are increasing, albeit at a slower rate. Donald Trump wants to stop US incentives if he gets elected. Somehow I don't think it's going to deter people buying EV's if they want them. OK, maybe some..but still, EV's are getting to be a bigger and bigger part of the new car market regardless of who gets elected. One hopefully positive note...While Trump said he would end incentives, he did say that people can buy whatever car or truck they want...even EV. Despite all the drama going on with Tesla these days, they're still selling EV's in large numbers. It'll be interesting as the decade goes on. Good report. Keep up the good work!

Everything runs off is this or that feasible. There’s no risk. There’s no focus on improving things just for the sake of improving them. Let the old prideful automakers burn. Let the new and those willing to reinvent themselves flourish. Capitalism cares about one thing: can you offer a good product at a reasonable price and volume that people will buy.

Protectionist policies will not make legacy automakers more efficient. It will be interesting to see what China does in response. Unless, Europe put in similar tariffs the only market that will be open to legacy makers will be USA and Tesla will probably dominate there. I don't see a good outcome (for consumers) will come out of this, because it will probably delay and remove competition for lower cost EV's which will slow US adoption of EV's. It is really an idiotic policy if you think about the desire of the government for EV's to heavily penetrate the US market but price is a limiting factor so they force the prices to be HIGHER.

Great info. I've been screaming this. Rivian are the only ones doing "okay" and they're still on a precipice. John Davis of motorweek just dropped a video a couple of days ago calling BS on the lame steam narrative about ev adoption. Very surprising coming from them. GM his their numbers and Stellantis doesn't have one and are going to be sadly disappointed when the Challenger comes out AFTER the Model 3 Performance. 😮

Be sure to mention Tesla Insurance and how reasonable it is. In SoCal I pay $83 a month for a Model 3 Performance. Clean record. Male, 55.

All my life has been what I need not what I want. I would love an EV but don't need it. I watched BYD on an electric channel they are more stylish than the Tesla but when the time comes I will buy a Tesla. Tax credit is irrelevant since I am social security funded. Good show

Skeptics are just low-information consumers. Who is skeptical about air-conditioning or indoor plumbing? Nobody 'smart' is. Anyone skeptical about this has an information deficit. Same with EV 'skeptics'.

Cars can run on water but the tech has been stopped by oil industry. So battery too is redundant.

Hyundai and Kia could benefit from the US tariffs on Chinese EVs. They look like the only international legacy auto companies who are serious about continuing to increase investment in EV production.

The Chinese government has learned from the State of California how to deal with air pollution. They have incentivized local businesses to build EV to reduce air pollution. Tesla is calculatedly lucky to be allowed to operate in China as a fully US-owned subsidiary. The Legacy OEMS was not accorded the same privilege as Tesla because they had no intention of making EV anywhere in the world. Until this very moment, they are still reluctant to proceed wholeheartedly.

The obvious question is, how will these tariffs affect how Tesla does business in China? It is logical to expect there will be a negative affect on Tesla in China, but to what extent? And will it have a significant impact on their bottom line? Regarding the move to electric vehicles, there were two factors preventing me from making the switch. The first was very high interest rates that we currently have. The second was what I considered inadequate range at 260 miles for the model Y. With that bumping up to 320 miles, and Tesla offering 0.99% financing, I put down a deposit on a model Y tonight.

Better question - look at EV sales in Europe :)

They increased tariffs in order to protect what little EV sales would happen in the U.S. for other than China manufacturers.

New apartment construction will likely consider EV charging, if they hope to rent out units to an EV-driving populace.

As someone here in canada honestly if the charging is like in the US with alot of super charge I would have bought a tesla instead of a hybrid.

I'm sure the Chinese will find a workaround this tariff. New factories in Mexico, Canada and maybe even USA will happen in the next 1-2 years. They could initially send parts from China to the factories in North America, where asemblage can be minimal, while they work on manufacturing on site. "The cheap cars are coming."

China won't be using Canada as a workaround, because the US just ignores its trade treaties and tarrifs imports from Canada whenever some business owner cries to his senator. See lumber trade, oil, etc etc. US is THE WORST trading partner.

Maybe not in the US or Canada unless China can more highly automate their manufacturing. Labor costs are too high. China could open assembly factories but it's fairly likely that the federal government would crank up the percentage of "made in America" parts to protect GM and Ford. What might happen is that one or more Chinese companies gets very serious about automation using large scale casting, simplified wiring, box assembly, etc. In other words, closely copying Tesla. Even developing their own robotic workers in order to lower labor input.

@@bytemark6508 We need to consider 'sort of intelligent' humanoid robots. To do a lot of factory jobs doesn't take "generalized" intelligence but just a trainable worker. A couple of (IQ) digits will do ya. Building a robot that can physically do simple jobs is a solved problem. A humanoid robot wouldn't need a lot of smarts in order to be taught a simple job by using a human guide. I'd love to see a breakdown of the number of jobs that are simple at the pick and place level vs. complex jobs like installing seat skins. That would help us understand how quickly labor input should be reduced. I just saw a video of a $16k Chinese robot being manufactured. Haven't watched it yet. But if a decent number of auto factory jobs could be automated with sub-$20k robots then the door might be open for low cost EV manufacturing inside the US. Chinese companies, the best of them, seem to have solved the EV software problems that have defeated US and European companies. They've got economy of scale or getting close. Avoiding the 27% or 100% tariff and shipping costs would make manufacturing inside the US a lot more feasible if labor costs could be contained.

IMO one of the main reasons the US is lagging the EU for EV adoption is the range. Americans demand more range than Europeans because the average distance traveled during a single trip is significantly higher. We also don't have high speed rail connecting major cities... so there's that. But make no mistake, the US will close this gap with the EU if not overtake it.

This import tariff might help to delay the import of EVs from China, but it doesn’t address the root cause which is that no legacy manufacturer is able to produce EVs profitably. This also applies to Lucid and Rivian as well, as they are still losing money on every EV produced. Scaling up might help, but the base problem, IMO, is that the engineering designs are not developed with manufacturing efficiency as an important consideration. And don’t forget what Tesla said about the importance of the machine that builds the machine. I expect it might be a good idea for Legacy OEMs to license Tesla’s manufacturing processes, but it may not be that simple to do that as it needs to be both the engineering design of the vehicle and the production methodology to put it together. We have all been wondering when legacy OEMs will start trying to license FSD from Tesla… It may be far more urgent to license/adopt (if that is even possible) Tesla’s design and manufacturing techniques.

I'm able to charge on 110V just fine for all my around town travels, then use the supercharger network for all my distance trips

The batteries is the key to the EV thesis. I had a Chevy Volt that I loved. Then the battery went out under warranty. They fixed it. 2 years later the same cell the dealer repaired went bad after only 4k miles. They refused to split the cost of new repair of this battery of $8k. I gave them the car back. Batteries will within a few short years become cheap enough to buy and repair that the game is over. 5 more years should be the end of Gas Vehicles being purchased new.

I would like to think that the government is as pragmatic as you suggest, but I think these new tarifs are pre-election posturing. North America, as a trading block, already has very effective and subtle protectionist measures in place in the form of specifications that don't match the rest of the world. This hike is symbolic and is more about sending a message of support to the Unions than it is about protecting an industry.

Hi Farzad - greetings from Australia - really enjoy your channel and topics discussed - just been thinking about the coming Tesla Bots and the effect that will have on manufacturing costs especially Tesla factories. The question is - The reason that China has an advantage is because of cheaper labour costs. Likewise the advantage of Tesla building a gigafactory in Mexico is to take advantage of the cheap labour costs there otherwise why go there. If the introduction of bots with their expected low cost to manufacturing is coming to all Tesla gigafactories then why go to Mexico as there would be no real cost saving advantage. Why not just increase the size of the US gigafactories. I understand Tesla has plenty of land at Texas site. I would be interested in your thoughts along with your guests. - cheers Allan

Why do you think that VW, BMW and Mercedes does not have profit on EVs?

I am an engineer. I am not a huge fan of EV but I am a realist. Gas cars have built in limit to how much performance they can have until they start using too much fuel to be viable. That limit is calculated by thermodynamics and it says out of 10 liters of fuel, only 3 liters are used, 7 escape as heat due to inneficiency. EVs on another hand dont have this built in limit, because electric motor has 95% efficiency. As the batteries improve, EVs will have over 500 horsepower and will be covering over 500 miles on a single charge. Thats why gas cars will not dominate forever.

You conveniently left out that not so small detail of 'electrical' storage inefficiency. Is isn't just the 30% efficiency of gasoline combustion. Gasoline has '100 x's' the energy density of a Li-Ion battery. In spite of combustion inefficiency compared to electrical propulsion, gasoline per volume and mass is 100's more energy dense. In summary 15 gallons of gas which weighs 100 lbs = a 1000 lb Li-Ion battery factoring in the energy efficiency of gas versus electric vehicles. That is why EV's in their current form are dumb. Heavier and less aerodynamic the vehicle, the dumber EV's are...like the gimmicky CyberTruck.

@@lukewalker1051 Well, if you want to throw weight figures around, I can easily say that an electric motor weighs only 30 kilograms while producing 300 horsepower, while a 300 horsepower gas encgine would weigh over 200 kilograms. I am not an EV fanboy, I actually prefer the sound of the gas car. However, we are reaching the limit of what gas cars can achieve meanwhile we are still in beggining stages of EV technology. In 10 years, gas cars would have improved by 10% while EVs will have 600hp and 600 mile range. That was my point.

@@lukewalker1051 EVs are far more efficient than ICE, with much less parasitic power loss. Gas sloshing around in a tank makes no sense, and ICE vehicles suffer performance loss when air density is lower (altitude, hot days).

The only weak link in EVs is the battery, and that is changing rapidly plus on the road charging will also contribute to absolute obliteration of combustion engines on land at least in populated areas!

The tariff states its purpose is to protect the US from an influx of subsidized EV Chinese cars. The tariff is great news since it protects US companies and US jobs. Like Tesla, a Chinese EV company has the option to build an EV plant here, in the US, and employ US workers to build EVs for US customers.

A problem of adoption not talked about is inssurance. My quote for a 2024 maverick hybrid was 1300/yr my quote for a ford mach e OR tesla model 3 was 3800/yr. please discuss why and what will bring this 3x discrepancy dwn...
