Thought provoking video. I will be honest and say I was aware of this on my bike insurance, as well as car insurance, as I had researched it a number of years ago for some events i had been involved with, but if it’s not something you are made aware of, you could be caught out.

Re insurance on trackdays. Nothing new been like that for years. Interesting to see how that applies to ABR track - if that nullifies cover I bet ABR organisers will be really chuffed with him turning up and spreading the news 😂😂😂 I wonder if this is all covered on the disclaimer we all have to sign at booking in. I wonder if greenlaning is classed as “offroad activity” even though they are classed as roads? Can of worms I reckon. I’ll carry on in blissful ignorance. Will you be riding the track - I will ( I’ll look out and avoid you as you’re not insured 😂😂😂)
@701Adventures12 күн бұрын
😂😂 Yes I have no insurance, avoid me at all costs. The disclaimer frequently mentions all bikes must be road legal, insured etc and I don’t doubt all the bikes will be road legal but not for use on the man made track through the ABR grounds. Green lanes are a different ballgame as they are legal roads albeit not maintained by the local council. 👍

So I rode this 19th June 2024. It is extremely extreme. Most of it in first gear. You have to commit on the throttle and hope you don’t meet anything on the bends. On the way down keep it in a low gear. Use the bake brake because the front keeps locking up. Done ticked the box will not do it again. The surface is shit badly maintained. There are better places to ride with better surfaces.
@701Adventures19 күн бұрын
Congratulations on doing it and yes you are correct, the road surface is shite. It’s been like that for many years. I tend to do most of it in either first or second gear otherwise the bike just starts to run away with itself. 😂

We did all of the passen above 1700 meter in western europe (dolomites, swiss, austrian and france alps and the pyrenees).Hardknott was one of the most difficult ones. Mostly because of the roadsurface that was extremely bad, and its very narrow so there is absolutly no room for error. An older thread I know. I had 2016 BMW 1200GS and used an older Garmin Zumo which used to switch off all the time. After a bit of research it appeared to be the canbus system which was causing the problems. Under some circumstances (which I never fully understood) the canbus would turn off the power socket. Solved it by wiring direct to the battery.
@701Adventures20 күн бұрын
This was hard wired directly to the battery on a Husqvarna 701, it wouldn’t shut down all the time, but when it did it was annoying. I don’t pay £800 for an unreliable navigation device. I’ve been using the Zumo XT ever since and that’s been flawless 👍

Ragley Hall do not have a policy which covers us as riders. I rang my insurance company to see if I could purchase extra cover specifically for the event and they said NO. 👍
@@701Adventures is it a sponsored event ,then they have to be insured for running a bike event ,plus liability insurance ,I thought it was like my old track days at Caldwell park were you pay for insurance on the day ye maybe .
@@701Adventures is it a sponsored event ,then they have to be insured for running a bike event ,plus liability insurance ,I thought it was like my old track days at Caldwell park were you pay for insurance on the day ye maybe .
@@cliff1551 The rider’s individual policy excludes these events. 👍
Lavi and Ollie is it
Aye yes, that’s the couple. 👍
I doubt any insurance company would cover you so they will be a lot of people in this situation, maybe all of them! I’ll still be on the trails as I have been since 2019. Go careful out there!
I don’t think any insurance company would provide cover for this type of event, if there is one out there maybe someone will leave a comment correcting me. Enjoy the trails, I’ll stick to the green lanes when I get back home. 👍
Thought provoking video. I will be honest and say I was aware of this on my bike insurance, as well as car insurance, as I had researched it a number of years ago for some events i had been involved with, but if it’s not something you are made aware of, you could be caught out.
I was obviously a bit naive as I thought I would be covered or alternatively something would be in place by the ABR organisers. I think the ABR organisers should make us aware of this in the terms and conditions prior to purchasing a trail ticket. 👍👍

Sleep in the van ??
Yes that's something I'll definitely be doing. 👍
Hi Steve, I did miss your commentary, did you have any issues with midges?
I got attacked by midges especially about 9pm on the Wednesday night, there were hundreds of the little buggers. Yes it was weird making a video without talking but I thought I’d give it a go as this style of video seems quite popular. They are however far more time consuming to make, setting up different camera angles etc. I will have another go soon but it’s not going to replace my normal style of video. 👍
Liking the new format. It’s different and would be interested in your viewing figures for this as opposed to your normal format. From what I read, this format appears to be a growing genre. I for one am liking the new van. I am trying to convince my other half that she needs to change her little car for a van 😁. My efforts up to press are not working……… so far.
Keep trying for a van, I bought the van because I sold the trailer and the van offers more security for the bike. I’m going to do a few videos of this style with a bit of camping thrown in for good measure and see how they perform. 👍
Is that the camp site in D&G you stopped at last year? Near the raiders road i think. Keep em coming Steve 👍👍
Yes it is, well spotted. Last year I stayed in one of their glamping pods but I thought I’d have a practice overnight camp in preparation for this weeks ABR Festival. Plus the area is stunning 👍
great little adventure Steve. Good vid👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you, very different from what I usually do but these type of videos seem quite popular so I thought I’d give it a go. 👍
You got there in a van! buy your own feckin coffee!
Yes I got there in a van, did you not realise that when I turned up in the van with the bike and all my camping and filming gear in the back. I apologise for working hard, saving some money and treating myself to a form of transport to get about in. 😂
Interistiting, but...nope.
What was it you didn’t like about it? First time I’ve done anything like this so I’m open to feedback 👍
That's different Steve....you didn't seem too enamoured with the quality of your evening meal...maybe a Pot Noodle next time ......lol
It’s food, but it’s nothing too special, just quick and easy for this type of outing. 👍
28:09 did you pick beer can up 😮😊
That goes without saying, leave no trace. 👍
27:07 Steve you using msr tent ye .
Yes, how could you tell, was it because it said MSR on it? 😂😂
@@701Adventures bit pricey them I'll stick to my lone rider adventure tent .
@@cliff1551 The Lone Rider is more expensive than the MSR. I paid £264 for this from Go Outdoors about two years ago. 👍
@@701Adventures which one is it , got my lone rider 30%off at the time was £164.46 with bike cover ,
@@cliff1551 My MSR is the Exilir 3. Is your LoneRider tent the one you can park your bike up inside, if so you got a bargain 👍
Congratulations on doing it and yes you are correct, the road surface is shite. It’s been like that for many years. I tend to do most of it in either first or second gear otherwise the bike just starts to run away with itself. 😂
Me and my son (dutch) rode the pass on 10-06-2024 . We did all of the passen above 1700 meter in western europe (dolomites, swiss, austrian and france alps and the pyrenees).Hardknott was one of the most difficult ones. Mostly because of the roadsurface that was extremely bad, and its very narrow so there is absolutly no room for error. But we did fine no problems , i would not do it if there is more traffic , it was very quiet. Enjoyed your country very much !
@@arie407 Thank you for watching my video and visiting this region. I’m glad you survived the Hardknott Pass. 👍
This was hard wired directly to the battery on a Husqvarna 701, it wouldn’t shut down all the time, but when it did it was annoying. I don’t pay £800 for an unreliable navigation device. I’ve been using the Zumo XT ever since and that’s been flawless 👍

The beauty of Galloway is that it never gets busy anywhere. Room to be alone, breath and relax.
I know a John Wilson who owns a Harley Davidson, is this you? 🤔 In any case I totally agree, Galloway Forest area is very relaxing. 👍

i passed the nook on thursday morn on my way back home from a mini tour through the lakes and borders, and missed it as i didnt realise it was there, pity really as i was due a break, but anyway, it's noted for next time as i'm often in the area, so thanks

Fantastic part of the country for motorbikes☺️
It certainly is, especially when it’s not snowing 😂

Hiya Steve...it was great to meet again and have a chin wag and catch up, it's been too long so we must meet again before too long...as you know I've visited Hartside Summit many many times over the years but wasn't aware of the latest developments regarding a 're-development'....BTW the Silver car in the field at around the 5 minute point of the film has been there for months and months ..having lived (until recently) at the bottom of the hill I have seen it many times, I'm surprised it hasn't been shifted by now ...any way once again we will catch up again soon mate ...oh BTW my new bike is a Honda NX500 as I no longer own a Kawasaki Versys 650 ...ta ra for now !
I got confused I thought you still had the Kawasaki, I can’t keep up with all your bike changes. Yes I agree, it was great to have a catch up and let’s not forget they do now do chips! 🍟 👍
701 Adventures, great video keep it up
