Motorcycle Parking Ban at Whitby Railway Station - The Facts!

I've seen that many videos during the last week or so about this situation where everyone was saying you can park, you can't park, or you shouldn't park there until the signs have been removed, etc, etc, I decided to do what everyone else hasn't done and just go and discover the truth for myself!!
If you want to actually know the facts, then please watch the video.
Please feel free to leave a comment down below and I will respond to any questions/comments etc.

    Good to see you are still out and about Steve. I do struggle to get motivated in the winter. Personally I don't have an issue with paying to park the bike as such, there's no reason why I should take up a bay for free - the bigger issue is what are you supposed to do with the ticket? There are few bikes with a secure place to put one without the danger of someone nicking it for their own use leaving you at the mercy of the wardens. If there's no free motorcycle parking bay I'll usually put my hand in my pocket, tuck the ticket under the fuel cap , take a quick photo of it with the phone and hope for the best.

    Hi, nice to hear from you, hope you are well. Parking is a strange issue, in Scotland bikes very rarely have to pay to park, Cornwall, the total opposite. Many places local to me have dedicated, free bike parking but when and where bike parking is chargeable I always pay. I also take a photo of the ticket as you do and then at least if I’m challenged I can prove I’ve paid. I don’t know what the actual issue was here but like most matters it probably boiled down to money. Hopefully it’s sorted now and there won’t be a repeat of the restrictions come 2024. 👍

    I used to live in Staithes just up the coast. Owning a motorbike and a campervan in North Yorkshire can be a pain the arse when it comes to local authorities regs ect. As for the cafe it's always been a popular destination or meeting point. My parents live just north of Scarborough so I might drop in for a brew n show my support. Cheers for the quick video n update.

    Interesting Steve, I had heard about the 'ban' via another KZread posting....there has been a restriction on weekend and Bank Holiday car parking at Devils Bridge for a number of years ...I have witnessed the enforcement of that ban on a couple of occasions ....this weather is still cold for my old bones to get out on the bike, but I'll be there at thr first opportunity

    It’s disappointing to hear you trash others who did a good job to bring lots of attention to this issue and contributed to you being able to park there today, both biker and non biker channels. I’ve been to Whitby and parked in that car park ( more than once) but it’s 600 mile round trip for me and equally as far for many other bikers. You presented your option but zero useful facts despite the title, maybe I’m being harsh but that’s the spirt of this video isn’t it?

  • @701Adventures

    @701Adventures

    Nobody, not least me, would expect you or anyone else to partake in a 600 mile round journey to simply visit the cafe, that would be daft. I can only assume that you didn't fully watch the video. I mentioned in it that the cafe proprietor had successfully reached an amicable solution with Northern Rail resulting in the current state of play. I provided an update re the parking costs and expectation on how bikes should park in the normal bays, if the cafes bays are full, I also gave info re the removal of the current signs threatening fines. If you don't consider these facts to be useful, fair enough then this video is not intended for you. 👍

    @@701Adventures thank you for responding. I did watch your video in full. I’ve followed this story and have ongoing emails with Northern on this subject. I’m glad the Cafe has a good outcome and that local bikers still have a meeting place. I believe the publicity and public outcry forced Northern to do a u turn, their legal department will be busy into the new year dealing with the level of complaints received.

    lol 😂 far play your opinion. So did you go to support the cafe while the ban was in force??? Not to add the wether hasn’t been good either so I personally don’t ride out much in the winter months, done it anouth in the past. And I’m sure I’m not the only bike that does it. With paying to park respective of the mode of transport the fines need to be enforced by the owner it’s there responsibility to enforce the fines, and yes the customers need to pay the ticket price to avoid being find that’s been a simple system that works for many car parks that is well under stood by all users. But how Northern did it was clearly discriminatory towards bikes. And also a very lazy way of dealing with a situation that has many simple solutions that wouldn’t discriminate against any road user. And a lot of KZreadrs and others groups lobbied against it even open to a compromise. I understand you are just trying to raise awareness of the rule change which is far anouth in it simple form to do, with out slating others. But I do dislike KZreadrs who dis others over petty points just to seemingly raise there egos or say there better. Especially as you should know creating vids isn’t easy and maybe they are also busy with other work or plans or don’t have alot of free time to support everyone let alone life circumstances. It’s just un-professional and comes across as spiteful / jealous towards other creators. Let alone this vid dose come across as trying to bathe in the ground work of others Hence why I don’t sub.

    I'm a hands on type of person. I liken this to posts I often see on Facebook where an animal charity for example is highlighting the plight of a species, let's say Pangolins. People react to posts giving it an emoji with a sad face or a tear and then go about their merry way, without doing anything further. Now I understand that not everyone is able to visit the Amazon or the Whistlestop Cafe due to travelling distances or other constraints, but what niggles me is KZreadrs who live in the approximate area of the cafe and certainly significantly closer to it than I do & who see an opportunity to release a video about the situation and do so but don't actually visit it, thereby supporting the cafe. Whilst I didn't visit the cafe during the ban (and I had intended to, unfortunately the adverse weather prevented me from doing so), instead I used my time wisely by contacting Northern Rail, North Yorks Council, commenting on other videos which covered the matter in order to give those videos traction etc. I do not consider myself better than other KZreadrs, I may have different principles, beliefs & expectations but we are all unique in our style of filming/presenting videos. I have to disagree with you however, creating videos is actually very easy if you know what you are doing, this video was filmed in a day, then edited and uploaded when I got home for release the following morning. So you may recall in the video that I said this video may come across as being controversial and that the opinion referenced by me was my opinion and may not be everyone else's, this style of video release was to get this video shared, watched and have people leaving comments, which is exactly what people have done. Regarding your comment on not subscribing, I have no expectation that anyone watching any of my videos will subscribe. If viewers do, that's great, if they don't, then hey, ho, life goes on. Anyway I thank you for your comment and watching the video, if you celebrate Christmas, have a good Christmas and Happy New Year for 2024. 👍

    Hmm. I think you were a trifle harsh on other KZreadrs not visiting the Whistle Stop Cafe - You don't know their personal circumstances, how far away they are (it would be a 2-day round trip for me, so definitely not at this time of year!), and you don't know they haven't visited - just because they haven't posted it on their channels.

    Its always interesting in this type of video... i have never been but i would suggest that the issue was caused by bikers and im as guilty as everyone else tend to park up and sometimes ignore the rules as im only here forv30 mins . I think northern rail had to take decisive action to protect their interests ... im sure the cafe owner posted notices telling people to park responsibly but these were ignored... as a community we sometimes reap what we sow...

    You are spot on with your comment and observations. I can see the argument from Northern Rail's side, I think they just went about it possibly in the wrong way? If it was down to lost revenue due to non payment of car park users, bikes and/or cars, then they were perfectly justified to do as they did. However they didn't take into account the backlash their actions would create when they singled out motorcyclists to ban. It's down to all of us now to ensure Northern rail never have to reconsider their latest decision. 👍

    It's taken me a while to respond to your comment as I've had to get it translated to English. Firstly it's ground, not grownd, secondly not everyone knew the ban had been lifted, even a local chap who arrived on his sports bike wasn't too sure so initially parked his bike elsewhere. If viewers of any of my videos like them sufficiently to want to subscribe to my channel then yes I am a very happy chap, as that is what creates expansion and helps to generate revenue to cover my costs of producing the videos in the first place. However I'm equally as grateful if someone simply wishes to watch one of my videos as you did. 👍
