Rescued by a KTM Rider!

Rescued by a very kind KTM rider during a 12 mile trail ride and then unfortunately failed by the RAC on the onward journey home.

Steve, the point that you make is true, bikers will generally stop to help or check up on another stranded biker, i guess its all part of the camaraderie that exists between us all.. I also had a situation where I suffered a flat tyre whilst on my GTR 1400 ( as you know they are very heavy bikes)...I was travelling back home in North Yorkshire from a ride out in Cumbria when I saw the TPMS light appeared warning me of a rear low pressure, within a matter of 10 seconds the tyre was flat, fortunately I was just approaching a layby on the exposed A 66, it was around 3.30 in the afternoon, I pulled into the lay by and almost immediately a car with Kayaks on the roof rack pulled in behind me , I tried to inflate the tyre with my air cannisters but failed and then ran out of air cannisters and plugs (they didn't work) so I rang the breakdown recovery service, at which point the chap in the car behind me approached me and asked if I needed help, it turns out he was a biker (GS I think), the breakdown service took about 2 + hours to reach me, I would have been very cold by then had it not been for the chap in the car telling me to sit in his car with him (heater full on !) and to keep warm. The recovery agent phone operative constantly told me that they couldn't locate the emergency phone number on the M6 !!! I politely explained that I was on the A66 !!! long story short an agency picked me up and I got home about 4 + hours later...I was extremely grateful to the guy who stopped to help, without him I would have been very cold and stranded on an extremely exposed part of the A66 ..

I should have added that this occurred on 8th October 2016, and natural light was fading fast

Yes we motorcyclists all try to help each other as and when we can and I have previously stopped to assist stranded motorists in cars but I think generally the latter example is rarely done by other motorists routinely which is a shame. 👍

Hey up Steve, not a good experience from a big company 😲, also some lessons to be learned, as they say every day is a school day, ride safe, Simon B 😎

Aye, thankfully it’s not every day you rip the valve out of the tube! I put it down to experience and something I’ll keep an eye out for in the future if the valve stem isn’t straight. 👍

Steve. I have a very similar story regarding RAC breakdown performance, which also included Weatherby Services, and a second incident regarding recovery following a miss fuel incident (I know it was my fault!!). Neither occasion would constitute an acceptable service by the RAC. Needless to say RAC no longer receive any monies from me.

The RAC seem to be very good at providing a poor service and letting stranded motorists down. And as for Wetherby Services, that appears to be their dumping ground in our neck of the woods. 👍

My last experience with the rac wasn't the best. That was a puncture, but on my camper. But as its classed as an lgv they couldn't find anywhere to repair it on a bank holiday monday. The last time i used any recovery service for a bike they sent the company from Keighley who i wont mention lol. The guy had no idea what he was doing, literally one strap over the seat that was that tight it bent the stand, cracked a side panal and tore the seat.

Hmm, that doesn’t sound good. I think the RAC have gone dramatically down hill over the last few years. 👍

Im glad my suzuki vstrom comes with tubeless tyres and i can carry a repair kit with me otherwise it would always be a concern when out on a ride especially off roading like you do,might be worth investing in tubeless tyres just for the peace of mind.I agree tho i would always stop to help a fellow biker..

I have the TuBliss system in my FE350 and that is the bike I now tend to use 95% of the time for off road stuff. This incident where I literally ripped the valve stem from the tube was just bad luck and it may never happen again in my lifetime. It was frustrating at the time but it could have been worse, it could have happened in the winter and that wouldn’t have been pleasant. 👍

I didn't have a rim lock fitted when this happened which is probably why it happened. I did fit one afterwards but then removed it as it caused too much vibration due to the in balance in the wheel. I do have rimlocks fitted to the Husky 350 which is the bike I'm using now for 95% of my offroad riding 👍

I use the spindle to help balance the wheel, and each wheel has 3 brass shaped long bullets held onto the spokes with a grub screw. I can't show any photos as I don't know how to upload photos to your post. (Can you advise)
