Salam Alikum. Thank you for this wonderful presentation. Loved it. On a personal note, i have been struggling to find my favourite TMQ for a very long time. My final understanding is this. The best translation is the one that i can understand in my heart from the Arabic original. If that tequires referring to multiple TMQs, then that is how it is, for me. Your video is definitely the best resource i have come across in this genre. Btw, your idea of great literature is much appreciated. Wa salam...

In the General Introduction- XXVII- why does it insert (“wont”) after sunnah? I’m so confused by this. What are the authors saying by inserting (“wont”) here. The sentence- “It also contains instructions for various individual religious practices, and especially rites, whose details were provided by the sunnah *(“wont”)*, and ahadith (saying actions and tactic approvals) of the Prophet.”

If what this man says is true and Islam provided a support system for science, then why that support system does not manifest itself in madrasas? Why there are virtually no scientific discoveries, or achievements in Muslim countries? Why atere are virtually no Muslim Nobel Prize winners? I just wonder.

Thank you. Good video. I would like to ask you whether you would define Islam as a legalistic religion eh centred on law and its fine details such as it has perhaps become in many manifestations of Islam today? I'd like clarity on that.

All knowledge are from Allah, and Muslims used and investigated knowledge for noble purposes. There are ways to manipulate God given knowledge by crossing boundaries made by God.

Great video! I had a question. What are your thoughts on the translation by Khalidi? I think it gets less attention than it should. I think he tries to convey the poetic nature of the Quran, but he does it in a more recent style of English (just for reference I also have read Arberry and Haleem, and do like Arberry quite a bit). I say recent because his style is somewhere in between Arberry which is slightly antiquated (which I think makes it no way worse) and contemporary English. For example, he tends to use 'whoso' instead of 'whoever', but he doesn't use the thee and thou. His translation, also like Arberry, has very few notes and brackets. I haven't finished reading it, but I would say his is probably the smoothest I have read. I think one critique of Arberry is that sometimes the poetic language can be used in a way that is jarring: not really changing what it says, but saying it in a way I could argue is a bit weird. This I feel can make passages that might already be obscure more so in a strange way. I haven't had this problem with Khalidi. The way he writes, even the passages that are meant to be obscure naturally still "make sense"; they are communicated in a way that I can understand their sort mysteriousness. Whereas whith Arberry it will be a mysterious passage that is sometimes conveyed Inna weird way. I sometimes had to reread because the way it came off was just strange. I hope you have some idea of what I am saying, lol. But I have respect for all three mentioned translations. I feel consulting each gives an idea the others may not.

You brought up Sūrah al-Hāqqah about how his life vein would be severed if he made up false sayings and attributed them to God. Go look up in Sahih al-Bukhari volume 5, Book 59, Hadith 713 about how Muhammad died…

Science actually explains free will vs predestination. Human beings - on a linear time scale - are free to make choices and there is cause and effect. GOD is outside of the constraints of 3 dimensions (i.e. not constrained by time, space or matter) and simultaneously exists in the past, the present and the future. Thus even though we make free decisions of our own will - they have already occured (when removed from a linear sense of time), and therefore when we can make those decisions they are 'predestined'. The Quran talks about events in the future using words in the present tense as if they are occuring now. Remember that Allah also exists outside of the Universe (ayat al kursi, God's throne sits on top of the universe) so it's like if we were to watch a movie we have seen already, the characters in the movie are making real time decisions [free will] while we already know what will happen [predestination].

Please not that what you ascribed to the Prophet Muhammad as Hadith regarding "seeking Knowledge from the cradle to the grave" is not a hadith, and it is totally fabricated and falsely ascribed to the Prophet (peace be upon him). لا أصل له As for the other hadith "Seeking knowledge is incumbent upon every Muslim, male and female", this exact wording does not constitute an authentic Hadith. The scholars differ concerning the wording up to the word "Muslim", but they are in agreement that word "Muslima" is an added fabrication. In other words, "Seeking knowledge is incumbent upon every Muslim" has support within the Hadith community, but the part "male and female" in the translation has no substantiation. Of course, seeking knowledge is encouraged in Islam, but here the concern is about what the Prophet said and what he did not. Additionally, the hadith without the word "Muslima" (female Muslim) includes females, too.

You also showed four opinions regarding the ordering of the Surahs and said the first is where you find the most agreement among the Muslim scholars. After stating your explanation about those four views you stated you did not know which one of those (opinions) it actually was and claimed that you thought no one necessarily knew for certain. This contradicts the first view you stated. Then you went on to support the fourth view. This contradicts your last statement. In any case, the agreement of the majority of the Muslim scholar community should have and most of the time does have precedence over individual views such as those of al-Baqillani and Ibn Atiyyah among others. The issue is not about about a group versus one, but rather the evidence studied/considered by a group is of wider scope than that of one.
