    Dude, my Dmax has been one permanent problem from day one. Had to sue them for warranty. Luckily I’m a mechanic by trade and was able to fix it all myself. Went to get a wheel alignment at 20k, they said the lower ball joint was fucked, took it to Isuzu for warranty, they told me it was fair wear and tear. At 20k… Factory bullbar fell apart, cracks all over it, they told me I overloaded it, then couldn’t explain how, then they accused me of modifying it, then once I proved I didn’t, they then went back to the overloading claim, which they couldn’t justify. Got stuck in Low range for a week. Rear diff has been locked up since day one causing it to howl when cornering, they reckon they cannot fault. Speedo is out massively (can do 120 on speedo past a speed camera and not get a ticket) they told me to fit bigger tyres, I fitted larger tyres and it became a gutless piece of crap and fuel usage went through the roof. They say It gets 9.2l/100km fuel economy, but it actually get 9.2L/90km due to the speedo error. Also, the 100,000km warranty os actually only a 90,000km warranty due to the speedo error. Also service interval is actually reduced because of speedo error. Steering rack was fucked at 40,000 k’s, was told they couldn’t fault it. Replaced the rack myself, fixed all my tyre wear issues, was able to get a proper wheel alignment, and got rid of the grinding feeling in the steering wheel. My Isuzu is the worst car Ive ever owned, and I will never buy another one as long as I live… the only reason I kept it was because I’ve fixed everything myself, and spent a lot of money making it into a decent car.

    I thought about doing this to my dmax. After watching this video, I will give it a miss. With these hard pipes, it looks like the pipes are now too stiff. When you loaded up the engine, it looks like a lot of stress is now put onto the intercooler bracket. You can actually see the pipe pulling on the intercooler. There's probably a reason why the Isuzu engineers decided on hoses instead of pipes.

    Hello Nick i have a question, I have just replaced new bearings front wheels. I notice that i still hear noise despite that the bearings are new, noise especially if i have some load on the pick up. Do you have any suggestions of what i can do or what might cause this? Thanks in advance

    Not a good idea to remove the two bolts where the hose joins power steering pump as in this video. You risk damaging the o-ring and having to deal with a leaking pump as in my case. Trying to get the correct o-ring is also problematic, Isuzu won’t sell you one because it only comes with the complete replacement hose.

    Going through this right now it’s with the mechanic. Looked up the problem and your video pops up and as soon as I saw the name I recognised it. My partner Vik (Bribie Island)caught up with you a few years ago and followed you on KZread as well as other domains as he loved his mux. I’m driving it now as unfortunately he suddenly passed away in January.

    It sounds like a rear main oil leak. If it is dripping oil then I would push for a warranty repair. If it is just a very minor oil mist around the area, I would clean it all down and check it in 1000km to see how bad the leak is. 👍

    G'day Nick, love your videos. Can't help but notice that you have gone with an out of spec coolant 😬 Isuzu uses an OAT coolant, and Penrite would quote it as penrite blue. I'm currently about to change mine and wondering why you went with what you have recommended?

    My wires that go into diff have come off or broke off inside the housing , im guessing right at the locker. To get to it do i need to do all that? Wheels and all?

  • @LowRangeNick
    @LowRangeNick10 күн бұрын

    If it has broken off in the diff and the can't see any wiring coming out of the diff then yes you would need to remove the entire diff center and repair unfortunately.

    Hey Mate, when going down that steep rocky decent with a lot of boulders do you ever put your feet on the breaks or the car is doing its thing. Just asking as i almost always get worried and put my legs on the breaks.

  • @LowRangeNick
    @LowRangeNick10 күн бұрын

    Hi there, down the steep descents I always engage 1st gear low range in manual mode to give engine braking. If it is washed out I will use the rear locker as well to maintain traction. Then I will also use braking as needed to keep the vehicle going nice and slow.

    Hi Nick. Thanks for the video. I have hit a snag with one of the front mud guards. While tapping it in it broke. I’ve just got back from Repco but was unable to find a suitable clip. Have messaged X-Car who I bought it from so hopefully they can help? Maybe you can make a suggestion? This is a cautionary tale for anyone else tho. They seem to be the exact ones you installed.

    I might try pulling the fluid through with a 100ml syringe and a silicone tube. Got 2 rear calipers to replace so may as well replace the entire fluid in the system. I bleed my MTB brakes using the syringe and back flow method ie-from caliper to master cylinder, the only issue doing it in reverse may be drawing in air around the cracked open bleed nipple but as I'm changing fluid once it goes from skanky to clean I'll stop pulling and disconnect and let gravity bleeding happen for a wee bit so there's no chance of air in it before nipping up the nipples.... (and hopefully DOT4 won't mess with the syringe plunger like mineral oil does- swells it up and ruins it!)

    Are those the biggest tires that you can run without a lift? What were the dimensions of the new rims? Were the rims just a cosmetic upgrade? Any plans to install lower gears to compensate for the larger and heavier 🛞s?

    Castrol recommends the castrol transmax multivehicle atf. I have recently changed to the penrite atf lv which I believe is better. Just get your local parts store to check against your registration what oil they recommend using if you are unsure.

    Some years ago it was always difficult to get the specified cooling water volume out of an engine when some one suggest to me to leave the radiator cap on whilst draining the water, This will even drain the expansion bottle as well leaving the system empty. I personally added the recommended quantity neat coolant and topped it up with water to correct the ration and used any coolant left over put neat into the expansion bottle guaranteeing sufficient coolant if over the correct ration but certainly not short. I have done this for many many years with never a problem of any kind. John
