Me Ancient

I opened an MRE in one of ACE VIDEOS episodes while on our boat. The response to the MRE opening was overwhelming. I had saved that particular MRE from when I was active duty in the Marine Corps from 1980 to 1984.
So I decided that if I ever started my own KZread channel, MREs would somehow be a part of the content.
Join me as I discover MREs and other survival foods as well as the Great Outdoors.

Having to rely on MRE toilet paper in the toilet for weeks on end I must say I learned quickly to make toilet paper a huge part of my duffel bag when going to the field.

I love your vids, but I think it is sad that you like Trump. In my mind, Biden sucks just as much as Trump does. One is a senile fossil and the other is a criminal that has been caught lying more times than I care to name. You need younger people to lead the nation. Super old world leaders is becoming a Trend. We do not need cold war thinking anymore.

I have this feeling that the biggest difference between Russian food and American food in general is that American foods focus more on taste. And because they do that, they add lots of preservatives, taste enhancers and other chemicals. Russian food is more natural without any of that stuff, very similar to European rations. This is why it probably doesnt taste as good but its healthier.

Great video! DryTech Real turmat (fieldmeal) has a big variety of dishes, guess ive seen about 30 different kinds thru the years.. Remember when we where out on exercice, it was about getting the "steinbitgryte med dill" (wolffish stew with dill)😅 .. Out of the new ones I think the kebabstew is one of the best, real good and spicy taste..

🤣 "Fortune Cookie" 🤣 You'd probably get canceled in some circles by the woke dopes just for saying something like that (as innocent as it is, and as innocently as you did). I thought it was absolutely hillarious... 🤣 P.S. Imagine being a Chinese soldier and opening that fortune cookie which stated something like, "Confucious saying: To die with honor, is to live forever." 🤣 P.S.S. Love your MRE vids. 👌 Also thank you for your service sir. 🙏

This is not that special. It's a 24-hour ration. It's not gourmet and it's not amazing. It's just that if you use the slop they serve to Americans these days, this seems like heaven by comparison. But that's just because American MREs are extremely low standard. They should be more concerned about their soldiers and their soldier's health more than what they don't eat and have leftover. The most well funded military in the world, and they treat their soldiers almost worse than the Chinese do. If I was in the US military, I'd be mad that the Aussies get decent food while you get slop. This should be the standard. A 4100 kcal, and up, 24h ration, with native palates in mind. Comfort, nutrition, efficiency, weight, and ease. Maybe, then, your son will realise protein drinks can be done right and taste delicious. American soldiers deserve to be treated better.

You eat the meal cold so you don't taste "except this mre this is my favorite. Right up chili Mac coming in second" it as much and you use the beverage bag to hold your phone if it rains. The coffee you just pour in your mouth and chase with some camel back water.

  • @anomonyous

Some things you have to know how to eat first. It's like someone who's never had tea before trying to make it like they would make coffee. Cultural differences, huh. xD. Hope you have another chance to try it again. I've only had Marmite, but it's great in the kitchen for various uses.

Tabasco should be the same everywhere. They have people who go around checking everything. Everything, even for export, should be made in the U.S. if I'm not mistaken. They make my favourite sriracha sauce.

The Dutch rations have a vanilla protein drink that is excellent. (It tastes like a vanilla milkshake.) Protein drinks have no reason to be nasty. But from my experience with the awful American protein chocolate drink... I can understand why you think that.

  • @anomonyous

I have yet to find a European ration pack that's worse than what I found in the American MRE. I had a horrible experience. And it's inefficient, low quality, and badly put together. If you're putting sweetener in your soldier's rations, you're already messing up big time. Now that I know how they figure out what soldiers don't like and what to improve.... that explains a lot.

This is fairly standard muesli. There are many types with more fruits and seeds and nuts than that in Europe. This one reminds me most of a standard Orifo fruit muesli. (A Danish company which provides ration food and equipment for militaries across Europe.)

What you're not taking into consideration, regarding the calorie content of the Chinese MRE, is that those people could survive on a bowl of rice everyday. Do you remember Vietnam? They aren't large people like us. The Vietnamese use to call us giants. Our troops need that many calories in a day. And what we consume would be way too much for most Asians. PS. It sounds like you've never had pickled eggs. Well, pickled quail eggs are just as good, in my opinion. That stuff is like candy to me.

The story about your Marine Corps boot camp was interesting. I could somewhat relate to it because my oldest son was in the Corps and he went through basic in Parris Island also. I was there for his graduation and we toured his barracks and met his Senior Drill instructor and one of the assistant drill instructors; both were SSGT's. The whole experience of his graduation was something I'll never forget.

Nobody ever questioned Russian food quality. They have thousands of year old traditions for that. It is their traditional way of handling warfare that is questionable. I also highly doubt this every man in the Russian army gets one of these per day. We talking more than a million packages a day here. Or hundreds of thousands in active duty.

The jellies are more like candies for us, in the mre context, I think, they are like jam/marmolade substitute. Cannot speak for the rest of Italy, but, in my family, tuna, tomato sauce, peas and peppers (cooked well) is comfort food. With bread, usually too much bread.
