TORTELLINI MRE COMPARISON - ONE NEW, ONE 18 YEARS OLD

Ойын-сауық

Join me as I compare the 2006 Cheese Tortellini MRE with a brand new one. The sides are different, for sure. Old Apple 'Pie' & Poppy Seed Cake, vs New Nuts & Trail Mix. Old Peanut Butter vs New Chocolate/Peanut Butter Mix. Plus different Drinks......Which MRE will come out on top?

    I agree 100% about 1 cohesive unit. Like we chose to swear in to the United States military, which means we should be living, eating, and surviving as 1. So that's 1 of the 2 reasons why I chose to.leave the military after 8 years.

    Love your MRE videos but as someone who does not have dietary restrictions, I disagree with your opinion about only giving one type of meal. Some people have special diets for religious reasons, and telling them they cannot eat that way is very unwelcoming (and probably discrimination). Also, people eating different meals can certainly still sit together and be cohesive.

    This notion that a group of soldiers in a tense situation will somehow feel a deeper connection to those who told them to suck it up and eat 'normal food' is beyond me. Not saying we have to cater to everyone but a basic variety that allows a no-meat and a couple of faith based options is not any sort of 'logistical nightmare' it just makes some folks feel some kind of way. If serving is about giving up some YOU for the WE then it should be easy to let people eat what works for them

  • @MeAncient

    @MeAncient

    As stated in other replies, the logistics of being sure everyone has the food they must have for their dietary desires is a supply issue you don't need to be dealing with in war time. Since the military's purpose is to kill people and break things, they need to concentrate on that, not, "Does everyone have the right food?" Think about 1200 Marines in a battalion and 10% need special food. They are scattered among all the units. How do you propose to get the right meals to them? It doesn't work. We kicked recruits out of boot camp for allergies, sleepwalking, and all kinds of things that would compromise the mission. Perhaps the don't do that anymore, but if they don't, it's to the detriment of the military's mission and that doesn't have any good long term ramifications. TFW!

Whether we are in a time or war or times of peace the Constitution and our personal rights and freedoms do not cease to apply. They do have those meals. But as another subscriber pointed out, these special meals cause all kinds of logistical nightmares and as I stated, they detract from the mission of the military, which is to kill people and break things. That needs to be done as a single fighting unit. Worrying about someone's dietary desires doesn't help in carrying the mission out. If someone who has particular concerns for their diet or otherwise wants to serve, they can do so in other ways, like the Peace Corps. Cannot get a meal that 'works for everyone' as far as Religion is concerned.....or Vegan vs Vegetarian vs all else for that matter.... TFW!!

    I like those stories and photos in the middle of the review. I also have a lot of memories, but I wish I had a camera with me when I was doing my duty. My humble opinion is that I don't like vegetarian food as much as meat food, and it doesn't give me the same moral boost as meat food. Of course, I will eat vegetables as part of a meal, but I prefer meat products. I think you can build tastier and more varied meals from meat dishes. I like that principle of everyone eating the same food, unless you have food allergies of course, but usually that means building the food around the smallest group of users. If some people don't want to eat other foods for religious reasons, for example halal or kosher eaters, then why force people of other religions to eat halal or kosher food against their religious beliefs? For example, in some restaurants there is a move to make all meat products halal so that everyone can eat it. I wouldn't quite go down that route.

    There was a comment where someone who was in Supply Battalion said the logistical nightmare of keeping the 'correct' MREs with the units who request them. I had never thought of that. When I was in bootcamp, they kicked people out for allergies, sleep walking, and other things that made that person unable to be part of a unit to accomplish the mission. There are other ways for folks to volunteer and help on a mission that can consider their individual meal needs. The Peace Corps comes to mind. There are also lots of volunteer opportunities within their own faith, be they Muslim, Jewish, or a Protestant sect who forbids pork and shellfish. TFW!

    Another great video! We are old fashioned, yes, so a lot of the old ways are still best. But we live in a society that is so worried about 'hurting feelings'. Men are becoming less and less like men and just have been sissified from the same society. (While woman are becoming like men, but that's a separate topic, kind of). That same society, since we don't want to displease everyone (while the goal is to make people think that this society wants to please them but it is a form of control), comes up with ways to admonish their ideology of what's right and wrong. Sorry if this is sounding like a conspiracy theorist speaking lol, but this is what is going on in the world. I absolutely love the honesty in your prayers to our heavenly Father, and just for the fact you pray for the more in general, but your giving the thanks he so well deserves. Anyways, we can't please everyone. So I totally agree with you: give them a meal and it's up to them to get the fuel their body needs or not. I'm a strong believer in They'll eat when they're hungry. For me, it is a separate issue if they have a health reason to not be able to eat something. I manage a food bank and we also have 5 routes to the elderly and shut ins. It is not always easy to be able to cater to their needs, as we are not a grocery store that picking and choosing us easy. We give what we have. But being in the field, being in a disaster of some sort, or when hungry, sometimes there is no option to be able to pick and choose or to be down right picky. But again, we live in a society that they're being told they can do what they want to do, express themselves! Lol. Ok I'll shut up now lol. I just totally agreed with your statement about the topic of having meals and things for one set of a group instead of just being a group. Amen. I pray your day is filled with unspeakable joy !

Sorry, if I’m fighting and gambling my life the risk better be worth the reward. I love y’all that do it, insane amount of respect. There’s a reason one speaks of crayons with 3 meals a day though. Contractors eat proper, paid proper, risk everything and if survive leave with something substantial and return to a job that pays over $45k a year. Again I have massive respect for our military but… crayons eaters is probably a proper colloquialism.

And when you remove a component of a meal, even if it fills you up it leaves you feeling wanting. No, Steven. When I was active duty, we kicked people out for all kinds of allergies, maladies, and things that couldn't be rectified (like sleepwalking) to keep the unit operational for the duties required. It's as I stated, the purpose of the military is to kill people and break things. It's accomplished with many people acting as one toward those goals. Plus there is the logistical nightmare, as a guy commented who was in supply while active duty pointed out, of committing to get the right meals to the right troops at the right time. You don't need more complications like that when carrying out a mission. If someone wants to join an institution to do some good, there's always the Peace Corps and such like to get with to carry out that mission. TFW, as always!

Of all places you might be feeding people without an extensive knowledge of their dietary preferences the military is not one of them.

    I totally get the concept of unity. However when it comes to food and diet we are all different. Imo eating different foods together is fine. I’ll see your next video when you get after the next one ✌🏻.

    In bootcamp (when I was in) they didn't let guys graduate and become Marines because of allergies, sleepwalking, etc. It was about the mission and everyone being able to accomplish it together. I think it should still be the same. The logistics nightmare of being sure every unit has the right amount of the right kind of MREs is another angle I hadn't even considered until another sub commented that he was in Supply Bn and that would have been a huge deal. Too many life or death considerations for Supply Bn personnel to deal with getting to the Marines......If someone who has special considerations for their diet, be they religious or allergies or simply preference, I think they should join the Peace Corps or a group within their religion to be a part of something bigger than themselves - not the military. Justin, TFW and I look forward to having you see the next video.

    just saying about the title... it is "vegetarian" not "vegan" and they are different... normally i don't nitpick but a vegan wouldn't eat those.

    I would have if I wanted them. They were very expensive and we were not required to buy them so I did not. TFW, Buba!
