The After Work Garage

My name is Andrew, and I’m a guy that likes cars, boats, machines, and basically anything that moves. This is the channel where I take you along as I tackle mechanical and repair oriented projects in my free time. I’m not a professional mechanic, but I’ve been taking things apart for as long as I can remember…and sometimes even getting them back together. So if you’re interested in how things work, keep watching, and we’ll see what we can learn together.

If you enjoy the videos and want to see more, feel free to like and subscribe (it's definitely motivating to see people enjoying the content) I'll do my best to post videos regularly!

I have done this many times but this time I noticed no rubber cover on the left side of the glove box like the right where thr nubs are. Also on the right side have a long tension plastic piece about 6 inches. I can close the glovebox, almost, and think one or both of these is why. Any ideas? Grateful for any insight- Jon

Put it in forward gear, and give it full throttle. That reveals the screw enough to take it out WITHOUT pulling the flywheel. ;)

Both front and back don't work, won't even indicate that the right or left signal is working and I hear a buzzing noise underneath the steering column cover. Could this indicate a bad relay or bad turn signals switch?

I've had this unit for about 6 months and I'm more than happy with it. It fills fast, is very easy to move around although the manifold disconnect sticks out to one side and it would be easy to bang that into something and break it off. The regulator handle is notoriously weak on all of these HF compressors, so don't bear down on it like it's a lug nut. Be gentle with it. The best aspect of this unit however is the sound level. You can stand right over top of it and have a normal volume conversation. My gf can't hear it when she's upstairs watching TV or working and that makes all of us happy.

A great cheap dip to clean your carbs is 1/2 pine oil 1/2 water mixture. Put it in a crock pot to heat it up, or use an ultrasonic cleaner. Rinse with hot water and blow dry with compressed air. It's an old timers trick I learned from working on vintage motorcycle carbs in the 1970's honda forums.

Do you know what that threaded hole at the bottom front of the carb bowl is used for? It appears that there's not anything in it in your video and mine appears empty too. I'm not the original owner, so I'm trying to figure out if anything is missing. Thanks!

Working on my Kymco People 50cc, and this helped me visualize what I need to check. The previous owner had "replaced the tires" - and he did a good job, but said he lost speedometer after this. I checked/replaced fuses to be sure, but this video is a perfect explanation of what I'm looking to check now. Thank you!

It's a reason why the carburetor looks odd...the low cowling. It's also the reason why it will run like shit if you have any ever-so-tiny exhaust leak, as the cowling will fill with exhaust gases and smother the engine.

I have two scooters. 2008 Jonway scooters. I'm not the first owner. On one, there is a petcock with only two heads. I can see down by the tire that there is a line hanging down. I can't attach it to the petcock since there are already two lines going there. It has been like this since like 2016 but I just noticed it. The scooters have sat for a while. I fixed everything possible by KZread and they are running well now. What do I do about the petcock, the two only heads and the hanging line?

Three things. You can thicken the gel coat with micro balloons, or silica. Makes it stick better. Also, epoxies like gel coat can change color as they harden. For the final coat of gel coat you need to use gel coat with wax, as you said. But, you can use wax paper to smooth the final coat. Works like magic. You don't need to sand and polish near as much. Oh, and by the way, Spectrum makes gel coat repair kits for a lot different boats. All in all, you did pretty well.

A simple open end wrench would be the proper tool to take off the spindle nut, along with a wheel puller to push out the old spindle. The spindle nut on the back needs to be torqued with a torque wrench to a certain value, not a pipe wrench

You have a great attitude and appreciaition for this old motor.I stay away from them old Mercs that are salted up and seized. You are very, very lucky the pistons came out of the motor to get it apart as it would of been a wall hanger for sure.Ive used 25 ton presses to get salted ,frozen OMC pistons out and their still stubborn to achieve success. Unfortnately you just cant press the pistons out as there is no way of doing so hydraulically or manually with their closed chamber head design. Roundstock thru Plugholes are a possibility but the pistons would most likely be ruined. Dont think this one will ever run again from my years of experience. You can cleanup most of those needles, journals & free up the main crank ballbearings if you cant find them if their not pittied too much. I do it all the time anyhoo Good Luck to you..

This worked for me. I don't ride my scooter that often. It sits for weeks at a time and won't start. I keep replacing the vacuum petcock. I did the mod exactly as you did yours and bam, starts and runs fine every time now. No more vacuum fuel pumps for me. Thank you for posting this.

I just did a desk out of maple bowling alley. While many think it's great stuff, it's actually a royal pain in the arse to work with. So incredibly dence and hard , weighs a ton, and burns through sandpaper like crazy. The nails make it hard to cut and the edges are tough to make look good. If you spend a lot of time on it you can make it look good, but it's not for inexperienced woodworkers.

the hesitation when you first started it is because you left the choke on too long,, once it starts, push the choke back in.. if it starts bogging, pull it back out 1.2 way.. if it doesnt bog, leave the choke off and start revving it slowly to warm it up..
