Bass Boat Deck Lid Reattachment

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here I'm reattaching the compartment lids that make up the deck of a bass boat. The rounded screws have not been a problem so far, and I have not replaced them. After several trips to the lake, the compartments seem to function without issue. Also I know my boat needs cleaning and organization, but then again, so does my garage. (Though I've built garage shelves since this video was shot, and gotten things a little more cleaned up!) Thanks for watching!

Screws into the lid portion will probably fail fairly quickly (because as you mentioned it's a hollow core) ... And the fact that you used around head will add stress to both the hinge and the mounting points... There are a couple options for you... You could go back to rivets on the lid portion... Using a longer rivet will give you more flair area when it expands... Possibly going to 1/4 rivet may have helped as the hole is now oversized from your screws.. I ended up going with 3/16 x 1" long rivets as this gave me a little bit more flair area when the rivet pulled in. When I remount the hinge I fill each hole on the boat side with 3M 5200 ... small dabs over each hole. cheers (2007 Ranger 620)

I have a 2000 Ranger 518vx and recently had to fix one of my deck lids due to rivets popping. Mine were the same way, screwed to the deck and riveted to the lid.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It does seem like those aluminum rivets are a weak point in the design.

@@TheAfterWorkGarage I have since needed to reattach all my lids since the rivets just randomly popped. I bought a pneumatic rivet gun that has made the task so much easier.

@@cmbtvet01 Great advice. I didn't have big enough rivets on hand (nor did the local home improvement store), but next time I need to do this, I'll probably go that route. Thanks for sharing!
