I am at 300k. Totally agree I love the roomey toe box so much. It's better than any other but it's not as stable as I would like. You do get used to plate over time and I enjoy it for faster sessions. Rumors around that they are not doing a newer version.
@@clivepreston2228 they are a grower for non technical trails and once foam settled in a bit. Cheers.
You can run 550 miles without any problems with running shoes.
Also......so close to 200 subs! 👏👏👏
Sounds like a good bit of fun mate. Might have to give this a whirl. Some top tips as always mate. You could also add the segment notifications on your watch to track you progress and pace for the specific srgment youre running but that will need a bit of prep before hand. Keep the vids coming mate. 😎🤘
Thanks Ben, I’ve tried the adding the upcoming favourite segments to the watch and racing real time against the CR, but prefer learning them before and running the bulk on feel, maybe I’m too old school 🙂 Good to see your training is going well 👍 Thanks for the comment.
Which multi Vitamin are they ?
The Wellman Max ones (3 tablets) from Subscribe and save at Holland and Barret
Sup with all the lip smacking? Is that some sort of stupid British thing like saying 'idea'r"?
Hi, Just wondering which race you won, the Centurion South Downs Way 100mile?? I can`t find your name in the list of entrants let alone as the winner. Dan Lawson won the Centurion South Downs Way 100 2024 in a time of 14:27:30, forgive me but I`m a bit confused?🫤
It was the UK Ultra SD100 results.racetimingsolutions.co.uk/results.aspx?CId=16269&RId=1845&EId=5&dt=0

Thanks for correcting me, cracking pace for that distance and vert gain 👍🏼👏🏼. Would you say the Speed Ultra has stable ride and will it handle the more technical terrain of the LL100, esp the first part with Blencathra, Black Sail Pass?
@@ianfraser747 I do feel the ‘speed ultra’ has good stability due to the width of the mid/forefoot landing area. This helps when running with good form. Long ultras hard to achieve with late stage fatigue. With regards to the technical terrain suitability, I have not managed to do a recce of the Lakeland course and first time competing so not totally sure at this stage. If really wet the lack of lug depth could be a problem but pace could be made up on the road/hard packed sections. Good question.
I’ve got 681 miles on mine and feel they are done. The cushioning, although still there, is noticeably lessened, and the outsole is finally showing wear. All my other Hoka shoes are definitely finished at 400 miles. Fantastic shoe and worth the price if they fit your foot. Hope you are well Tom!
That is a great innings. Good value. Hope you are doing well.
How are these compared to the speedgoats?
V similar weight. I feel the MS4 has a far superior dual density Profly + midsole and better upper and aggressive grip. More flexible for technical terrain, a lot more comfy. Great for ultras etc.
Awesome. These or the Adidas terrex ultra 😛
@@jakegreenwood6331 Totally different types of shoes. 🙂 Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra for 50-100 mile racing. Lighter faster…Hands down. MS4 for training comfort workhorse and maybe technical downhills. I have thought abt having them in drop bag for late stage ultras but shied away at last minute for lighter faster Tecton X (not as comfy but more speed oriented)
saying that, I did wear the MS4 in the Pippingford BYU 50 miler as it was all about comfort and pace needed to be slower to manage time until next hour lap.
A great shoe. Been a while since I have worn my pair but like you say it's comfy and great in the mud. It worked well for me in Brecon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings Tom. 😎🤘
Cheers Ben. Funny how over time shoes can develop into the ‘classic’ status. Good to get value for the money spent 👍
These poles are very fragile! I would not recommend them over their standard poles unless you are just very weight conscious. I snapped a pole when I wasn't even strapped in. All that said, love them otherwise and they are extremely light weight. The store I bought them from replaced them for me, so they are still the pole I use but only in races and not on downhills.
I’ll try and ‘handle with care’ as they were not cheap. Cheers for insight.
Nice video mate. Now I see these shoes on discount on the adidas website and I am just unsure about the sizing. Mixed reviews advice to go half a size down but some say that they fit true to size. What would you recommend? I currently wear size 8 bostons but they fit just right with thin socks
I would stick with a size 8. I’m a 9 and they came up true to size for me. I do have fairly wide feet. Got mine from RunnerInn
You *won* the race??! Congrats man!!
Thanks 🙂
I love everything about these shoes except the tongue. Its a bit short and i get a good bit of bite when i try to get a good lockdown for going downhill fast. Other than that, i am loving them!
Totally agree. Looking forward to next race
I put in tongue pads to combat this. I have to do the same for the Pro 3 road shoes. Really only my right foot top tendons give me a problem but I do both shoes just so they don't feel different. This definitely makes it easier to get a proper lockdown for the descents (and to prevent heel slippage on the ascents). I love this shoe.
@@eric-running-to-chamonix that’s a good idea. Will research the pads as have had lace bite in other ultra minimal race shoes like Takumi Sen 9 and Vaporfly. Bit of comfort needed.
They are like lavender magnets to my manky runners feet.
I need a pair of those bad boys. 👍
Ive got the terrex speed pro sg and think rhey are the best fell shoe ever made. I wish i could find the 190s in a size 9 anywhere because I'd snap them up.
I totally agree, the SG is an amazing shoe: grip, weight, drainage. Has been my go to for short muddy races for last few years. The 190s are also a great shoe for minimal racing and lower leg training, forces good form and proper rock plate. I’ll keep an eye out for any for sale.
www.budoonline.co.uk/products/adidas-terrex-speed-pro-trail-running-shoes-trainers-mens-non-dyed-black Not sure how good seller is but, quick google search
@tomharvey-run amazing thanks. Never seen that colourway before, i live the fact that the speed pro sg and i guess these drain so well. I think I'll probably give the ultras a go as well.
Yep, certainly helps on those intervals and tempo sessions.
Some of those are featherlight mate. 🤯
That looks TOO CLEAN to have been through a 100 mile race. The yellow soles are a dead giveaway.
Took x2 machine washes to get clean, bit of creasing on LS Pro foam and discolouration of exposed foam on sole. One way to wear out a shoe fast…
What about the agravic speed? (Non ultra version)
I had to send these back to Runner Inn due to outsole separation from midsole, got a refund. Short trail racing I have the Zinal 2 for now.
The Agravic Speed came in at 238g for UK9 standard width
@@tomharvey-run thanks very much. For some reason it says 270g on the Adidas website which just didn't make sense to me, being a lot less shoe than the ultra version
@@pete801 The ‘speed’ (UK9) is approx 22g lighter than the ‘speed ultra’ (UK8.5) 260g.
Double review day! You're spoiling us Tom! 👏👍
Haha production line…
yer the carbon plate throws you around in these. Needs tame trails for sure.
Easy to take it for granted with other shoes over stability on technical trails. Maybe the bouncy foam will ease up a bit over time.
Always the sign of a proper runner to have stacks of running shoe boxes in the background! How do these compare for use on the road versus a dedicated road super shoe?
Thanks for the message. Purely on road they performed really well. The only noticeable difference would be the ease of high turn over due to the increased weight as an example speed ultra 260g vs Adios Pro 3 at 215g (UK9). The foam on road shoes tends to also be a bit softer as well to cushion off a stable surface.
To go even lighter e.g. Takumi Sen 9 at 198g the shoe just disappears on your feet and easy generate v high turn over for sprint finish shorter racing.
@@tomharvey-run That's helpful, thanks. I do enjoy the occasional road 10km / parkrun so think I will keep to having a separate road shoe for that. Would you take the Takumi Sen up to a half marathon/marathon or would you always stick to the Adios Pro 3 for those?
@@27johnny TS9 I would take up to half marathon (depending on how light you are, running form etc). Vaporfly also great for HM. TS9 shines at 5-10km. Marathon it’s hard to beat the Alphafly OG, Adios Pro 3 nice too for 26.2.
Thanks Ben, need to trim the video a bit. Hope all’s well at Notley HQ 🙂
Sounds like a dream shoe mate. It works really well for peope called Tom. Great review bud. 😎🤘
Very well explained
Best shoes around
That is some very impressive running!!! Congratulations 👏🏻 I got those adidas shoes as well but my god that rocker really does ache my feet 😖 Think I'm gonna have to sell my pair as my feet feel awful after running in them 😕
Thanks for message. Sorry to hear that re shoes. They def are a mid/forefoot strikers shoe. Good luck with sale.
Amazing run Tom! really interesting video and look at what you did!
Thanks, enjoy your week
Congratulations and thank you for all the insights, super helpful! How were the Adidas on the steeper climbs, did you feel like they give a boost there too? Any calf soreness with that rocker? Thanks again and congrats!
The shoes were good on the steeper climbs too, I don’t think they gave as much of a boost. If it had got much muddier then I would have needed deeper lugs. I wouldn’t say they the best shoes for hiking as not designed for heel striking, the Mafate Sp4 better for hiking but heavier and less of a super shoe. My calf’s were fine, but I have done a lot of strength and conditioning and elevation in training so they are strong. Did feel the arch pushing in onto the rocker but never became a problem over the 18+ hours.
@@tomharvey-run Thank you!
Congrats on the win! I was dot watching. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and insight 🎉
Cheers Dan, hope useful
Great rundown Tom. Was a good listen. Always good when you can learn. So many people were going on wrong turns so it wasn't just you....I think the gpx file was just slightly off. Massive congratulations. It was a tough race but you smashed it out the park 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks a lot, glad it wasn’t just me. 🥲
Such a superb analysis Tom. Great to hear the tricks of the trade. Sounds like you had a great pre race plan and you absolutely nailed it. Thanks for sharing this with us mate. Once again huge kudos and congratulations on the win and CR mate. Really well deserved! Thanks for the shout out dude! 👏👏👏🏅😎🤘
Thanks, appreciated. Lots of small details to run through. So much of these races is a reflection of the training success. Congrats on your race.
Fantastic running. Congrats on the win
Thanks Pete
How do the speed pro fit compared to the speed pro SG?
The speed pro 190 are v minimal midsole with fixed footbed, amazing drainage. Rock plate and smaller lugs. They basically seem to fit the same as the ‘speed pro SG’ fairly narrow precision fit bit long at the front. Both shoes v stripped back racing shoes as reflected in the weights. Not v cushioned with firm minimal Lightstrike foam.
@@tomharvey-run thank you!
Cheers, seen too many people smash races in these to ignore them on sportsshoes.com at bargain price £89 inc postage (with discount code). Bit of a wild ‘marmite’ shoe seems to be the general consensus. Subtle colourway too 🙄
Very nice mate 👌
Lace length - I needed it for the runner's knot - I felt more secure in the heel with that but then I didn't size down and probably should have...
100% a great decision mate. Think of the bigger picture. 👍 Great plan with the stretching and strength and I really like the idea of the weighted vest mate. Might pick one up myself in the future. Not long until show time now mate. 😎🤘
Thanks Ben, thought I’d get a video done whilst fresh in mind. All part of the joyous running journey. Enjoy the remains of your taper and look forward to seeing you on the start line 🙂👍
@@tomharvey-run always learning mate. 👍 Look forward to seeing you there bud. Race numbers are on the site btw. Nice little field. 👌
Why did you sent back the Ultra?
The original pair I had was my usual UK9 but they size up large so had to send back for an 8.5 but was then out of stock. Eventually got the UK8.5 from another supplier.
@@tomharvey-run thank you, I just saw in the other video. Do you think the size is similar to the Boston 12, do you have them too?
I don’t have the Bostons, but all other Adidas shoes I have had have been true to size UK9 except for the Agravic Speed Ultras that came up half a size large and needed to go down to 8.5.
you panicked me - "SDW 100 in a week's time", see you on the start line on 8 June!
Ha, this is the Uk Ultra SDW100 on 25th May 🙂
@@tomharvey-run 😌
Hope your training is going well. Centurion races are great. I’ve updated the description for UK Ultra.
I wore them for the SDW50 in April and by the end my feet were killing me! I'd need lots more miles in mine before considering them for a 100 miler
@@paulmulks Thanks Paul, that’s good to know. Will have a sock/shoe change option thanks to my legend crew Scott (prob Tecton X original) How was your pace compared to a standard trail shoe?
They tried carbon but they kept breaking 🤣 lifted straight from the Conversation Pace review on YT of the same shoe !
Exactly, great minds…🙂
Yeah they’re good 👍
I sized down as everyone said too and im not convinced I needed too. found them fairly aggressive on the south downs. maybe I just need to get used to them but my Achilles didnt love being thrown around in them.
Interesting, I look forward to testing them further over more hilly terrain. Originally I think they were designed for Western States.
I wouldn't have said to size down personally. Mine are true to size
Sounds like a top notch piece of footwear Tom! Now I am certain I won't be catching you next week 🤣
Haha sure you will mate esp with your amazing training block. I’m hoping the hip doesn’t flare up. Salt tabs with Co-codamol pls 😋 thanks for sharing btw all helps, new to this KZread game 🙏🏽
That's brilliant. Thank you
Good question, the ‘speed ultras’ feel like a super shoe that will protect your legs over long distances and you really notice the cushioning, rocker and also the ability to lock into sustainable decent pace. Legs felt great afterwards too with low fatigue. Weight is just abt ok for racing. The ‘speed’ feels lighter and more nimble for shorter distance racing with the great Lightstrike pro energy return. Lower stack, less of a rocker feel and not as much of a super shoe feel. Still a great shoe, slightly better grip with lug depth. My first introduction to a true super shoe was from Carbon X to the original Alphafly that felt like it really helped you with speed and protection. Hope useful.
Do you think they would be almost as good as a road super shoe on road or is there still a noticeable difference?
Vs the agravic speed you tested a few weeks back.... Is the speed ultra much better? Like, 50 quid better? Thanks. Good review
