    @@ChilliChump Unless you went HPS for the heat and infrared with early morn run times. I thought about 2-3 hours in the morn. Lights are cheap power is not. Philiphs make some nice greenhouse lights, not cheap but 3+ umol/watt. Mars hydro have new greenhouse lights, a bit cheaper. I just used miss matched hand me down lights from indoor growing. Fluro, blurple, stuff from China. Nightmare to manage PPFD & keeping the lights in a good range. Do it for the views, it's a tax write off anyway 👍

    Could you please tell me if you are still fermenting in vacuum seal bags. I watched one of your videos which was four years old and you were fermenting peppers in a vacuum sealed bag and you also said that you wasn’t going to always do it that way but for now you’re having fun with it. So that brings me up to date which one do you prefer the bag or the jar? Thanks

  • @ChilliChump

    @@howardbellamy6301 I have done a few videos since then talking about this. Essentially I use the vacuum seal method for small batches, typically tests and experiments when developing a sauce. Then moved to larger containers with airlocks for my production sauces that I sell.

    @@ChilliChump well, I was just wondering because I have about three pounds of super hots that I grew and it just so happened that your video popped up about the bag fermentation so that gave me an idea and that’s why I am reaching out to you to see what’s the best method for me to ferment them. By the way, I still have one bottle left of your Sting hot sauce that I purchased from you a while back. What I would like to do with my peppers is make some type of fruit flavored fermented hot sauce any suggestions I would much appreciate it? Thanks

  • @ChilliChump
    @ChilliChump2 күн бұрын

    @howardbellamy6301 when doing a fruit based hot sauce I wouldn't ferment the fruit along with the chillies. This would result in the fruit changing flavour. Add the fruit after fermentation is complete. And make sure to hear pasteurise properly

    This is something that's not really well known but I think people should know that resiniferatoxin is not actually that spicy. The reason it's rated so high on the Scoville scale is because it takes a lot to dilute it to the point it isn't detectable. You still shouldn't try to eat it though because it's dangerous to consume.

    I had a season like that here in New Zealand in summer (December to March), my poor plants just couldn't get going due to the lack of warm sunny weather and by the time they did, autumn rolled in and the frosts wrecked them all. I hope I have better luck next summer, just about to germinate some super hots indoors in a few days time.

    That pepper with almost no folliage looks like aphid damage. The plant will drop its leaves as a defence to drive the pests away. I had a ton of aphids when i was growing my peppers indoors over the winter. I used pyretherin to get rid of them. Probably isnt aby predetors in your greenhouse . edit as a side note all of the peppers I had that looked like that are doing great now that they are outside in the ground. Lots of stuff to kill aphids in my yard

    It's been somewhat of a challenging season thus far. Very wet and cold spring especially. I'm a little further ahead with growth of variegated chilli plants and I think the decision to grow them in 10l pots was a good one. Root development was good and filled the 10l pot early, resulting in earlier blossoms and perhaps earlier fruiting (if I can just mediate the sometimes brutal temps in my polytunnel).

    I left the house for lunch the other day and just so happened to glance at one of my peach ghost plants which are still only about 10" tall but really starting to take off. A big green caterpillar was literally in the pot crawling towards the plant. I took it far away, maybe it can enjoy my neighbor's landscaping. Caught it just in time. The chocolate bhutlah plants are absolutely going great this year, already flowering and super healthy. I doubt they would care much if a caterpillar showed up.
