Karlsson ended the season strong and looked great on Team Sweden in the world champs, amd made the allstar team for that tournament. I think he has found his place and will be great next season. Aho is a pretty good defensive D. At that cap, great value. Shelter Graves, make his stats look good, then ship that contract.
Tarasenko is off the table now as I'm sure you guys heard. Pens still badly need a top 6 winger. As much as I like Drew O'Connor he needs to be on the third, he's an ideal third line player. Don't get me wrong, he hung in there with Sid last season, but he just doesn't have the hands honestly. I still wish Dubas would've made a push for Jeff Skinner. He signed for only one year and 3 mil in Edmonton, I don't see why Dubas couldn't have offered even a little more than that.

Before the year we needed to fix the following: 1LW to play with Sid, Top 4 LD, and bottom six scoring. So far we truly haven't improved or upgraded any of those positions
we have enough bottom 6 scoring if we move DOC back to the third line...we need Laine for Sid's line and ideally someone for the Malkin line

Would there be anything wrong with looking at Daniel Sprong? He is younger and brings a nice offensive boost to their depth scoring? I could also be forgetting something or ignorant of something with him but I am not sure why I haven't seen much discussion about it. Armchair gm'ing I would be thinking about him atleast I think lol

Would love to see tarasenko on crosby's wing. Tarasenko in his prime was an elite goal scorer. I think he could get 30 goals on crosby's wing. He has never played with an elite playmaking center the caliber of sidney crosby. Not many in the history of the nhl were on crosby's level. Also saw the pens signed the other sebastian aho. Another dman who had a down season last season but has been pretty decent for the islanders overall

I wouldn’t mind Tarasenko, if it’s for the right price. I’ve always been a fan of Tarasenko and that guy can finish, which this team is horrible at. I’d like to see him potentially get a chance to play alongside Malkin.

I wanted the pens to pair tarasenko with geno back when he was on the move from the blues. I think they would excel together with a player like doc to go get pucks out of corners for them. Now that he’s older I’ll pass on him for anything long term or larger than 4.5 mil. I really like the lizzo signing I think he’s a energizer type of player for that bottom 6 which is already improved from last year, I’ll take a Hayes and lizzo and Bellivoiur over neito, Carter and which ever other rotating door of players that we were trying to make fit and just didn’t.

I think Tarasenko stays with FLA. Even if he doesn't, I doubt the Pens will be eager to offer more than what a better team also could offer. Would be if Geno has sway over him. As for next season, it looks like Dubas os trying to give Sid a chance to will the team to the playoffs while thinking future more than now still. Trade Pettersson at the deadline if they are not in contention. I think it will be a lot harder to make the playoffs next season though, and they missed this one, of yet barely. BTW Sebastian Aho at league minimum is a nice bargain bin addition.

People need to realize that we’re not a hot spot to sign anymore, there’s only so much dubas can do. We’ve been so spoiled as fans that we’re frustrated with the GM for being patient. You guys have to understand that he was given a mess from Hextall and he’s trying to turn it around and build a prospect pool while staying competitive. Look at teams like LA and Dallas, they were in a similar spot as us now and look at where they are now, legit playoff contenders. Just have patience and we’ll be contending for the cup in a year or two with Sid leading the way one last time. Let’s go pens
That and the philosophy is different than it was a decade ago. Ten years ago, it was win at all costs, it’s different now. These great players, while still good, are towards the end of their careers. Whomever took this job last year, knew they were in it for the long haul and this wouldn’t be a quick fix.
@@PENS68 exactly. It’s a tough pill to swallow but the fun was going to end at some point. Sid still has ALOT of elite hockey left in my opinion. If the retool/rebuild goes as planned, then I think we can compete for 1 more cup before he leaves

Pens is a perfect spot for a 1 year deal. The Pens are setting up to move Pettersson. A 4 year extension no longer fits the plan. Plus moving Eller and hopefully Accairi. Plenty of space left for a Rakell for Laine deal once he comes out of player assistance program. .
Pittsburgh is no longer player top choice destination. They sadly are even worse going into next year. Making playoffs would be incredible. Sad times ahead.

The Pens definitely still need goal scorers so Tarasenko would make sense. Just because I have fun making up lines the lines would be something like Tarasenko-Crosby-Rust, Bunting-Malkin-Rakell, O'Connor-Eller-Puustinen/Puljujarvi, Beauvillier/Lizotte-Hayes-Acciari. I still don't think that lineup is great honestly, but it might be a slight improvement from last season.
Why not structure a deal the way Wings did with Kane? (4 mil; plus 2.5 mil in bonuses) With Pens’ lack of cap space, maybe Dubas could make a 1-year deal work.
Don't forget Imama, who will probably play 5 games just to fight Deslauriers, Wilson, and Oliver.
Could be wrong obviously… but I would think if Tarasenko were to leave Florida or not sign with a true contender that Pittsburgh would have to blow him away with a multi-year deal north of $5M AAV. If he were going to sign 1 year, $3-4M AAV, then wouldn’t he just re-sign with Florida?

I just cannot imagine Dubas offering a player like Tarasenko a contract with a straight face when he's already kinda conceded this season. It's different for non-established players, but it's a tough sell to good players.
He could always decline it but I do think part of it is getting to play with two superstar centers and a chance of being dealt. We’ll see though

Dubas has an MO in his approach, did in the Soo in the OHL, did it in Toronto in the NHL and doing it in Pittsburgh now.....never won anywhere and most of his moves never worked out....Dubas is an average GM who is related to like he is a genius and he will now waste the final years of Sid's career and Pittsburgh doesn't know what will happen when they don't have a Lemieux and Crosby coming up next......he did the same in Toronto, loaded up on pics, prospects and short duration contracts.....and then made bad decisions on what he did with them...poor bottom 6 building, never has built a good bottom 6 because his approach is take flyers on a bunch of players no team wants and hope they have career years.....not good bottom 4 d men acquisitions.....he was given one of the most talented teams in Toronto and couldn't build a bottom 6 or bottom 4 d.....he's average at best and is going to waste the final years of Sid ....sad

Like the blake lizotte signing. Could be a bottom 6 center for the now and future in pittsburgh. Grzelcyk signing is ok. Will be 3rd pair with st ivany. Hoping graves can find his game again this season. He's struggled in 1st season with every team he's played on and got significantly better in 2nd season. I like the draft picks the penguins are acquiring. If dubas is throwing this season away he might as well go all in and tank for james hagens. That kid is unreal. Maybe the best american prospect I've ever seen. Which is saying a lot with patrick kane. Hagens would make it a short rebuild
