Like the blake lizotte signing. Could be a bottom 6 center for the now and future in pittsburgh. Grzelcyk signing is ok. Will be 3rd pair with st ivany. Hoping graves can find his game again this season. He's struggled in 1st season with every team he's played on and got significantly better in 2nd season. I like the draft picks the penguins are acquiring. If dubas is throwing this season away he might as well go all in and tank for james hagens. That kid is unreal. Maybe the best american prospect I've ever seen. Which is saying a lot with patrick kane. Hagens would make it a short rebuild

I'm thinking the Sid contract announcement will be on August 7.

Dubas answered Rob Rossi's question at his press conference today and admitted hes looking to be competitive again, but not until the core retires. Hes not gonna get the bottom 6, 1LW, or 2LD we need to compete. Hes rebuilding without admitting it

Doesn’t matter. He could have gotten peanuts. You can underproduce if you are just all the way in. Bringing the heart. Giving it your all and showing something. Not super often in today’s game does it still happen for a season? But if you’re doing it you can get a bit of a pass. You can get by doing the opposite. You can put up numbers and not outwork. Not be a good presence, but put up 34g and 22a? You’re gonna get a bit of a pass… You can’t be unproductive and a negative presence in the room and on the ice. You can’t do both.

Kinda felt meh about today with the moves made. Glad to see they got a taker on Reilly Smith. Next year they’ll get his and Petry’s retained cap space back so that will be good. If they don’t make a move for a top 6 LW, then it’s fair to say they are really punting on this season. Hopefully Dubas has a trick to get one up his sleeve like he did last year to land Karlsson. I just hope these signings don’t block guys like Ponamarev or Koivunen from playing.

Have a feeling that dubas is done for more moves. But I would've been surprised if he could pull a jarry trade

Yeah I was rather underwhelmed with today honestly. Dubas basically did the same thing as last year, signed random bottom six guys. Only difference is he didn't give any of the guys he signed today term, which is good in case they don't pan out. And I don't really see Grzelcyk as an upgrade over Joseph, only way that makes sense is if Joseph was demanding a lot.

No, Dubas didn't make a big move, today, but I really like what he's done. First, Smith is moved, for more than the Pens paid for him. Second, the team's gotten younger, while gaining talent. Third...and most important for the franchise...WBS has an average age of slightly over 23...no more 30-something year old AHLers.

Here is the roster: DOC-Crosby-Rust Bunting-Malkin-Rakell Beauvillier-Hayes-Puljujarvi Lizotte-Eller-Acciari Bemstrom Graves-Letang Pettersson-Karlsson Gryz-St Ivany Hard to see that team not finishing close to last in the conference. Maybe they are tanking.

Penguins are in a very weird position now. It's like giving the core just enough talent around them to "maybe" make the playoffs, and enough to be entertaining for the fans, but not enough talent to really do much against the top teams. My question is when do you trade Karlsson and get some prospects and picks for him? He's still young enough that we'd get a First Rounder and some other assets, but if you wait a couple years, who knows.

The Caps 14M over salary figure incl Backstrom's $9.2 LTIRetired money so really only looking at $5M over still a bit of work to do but not as awful on the surface at initially thought.

If Graves and Jarry were playing to their potential how would you feel about this team?

@johnnythunder196 unfortunately yes haha - if it was like 2-3 years ago it would've been a great sign lol. And yeah the Smith trade was great - definitely something to be excited about. I never really had an issue with POJ. He's a solid 3rd pair guy that was making basically league min. I have no issues with them letting him go though. But just to turn around and spend more money on Grzlecyk - who doesn't seem to be any better at this point - is just puzzling to me.

@johnnythunder196 in a vacuum I think the signings are fine - theyre fair value. But it seems like he's just trying to find bodies to fill out a roster as opposed to actually making the team better. Just more depth guys like he did last year with Acciari, Nieto, Harkins etc

Who will fill in on sids line once rust gets hurt? With DOC starting at 1LW we have nobody else to fill that spot.. nobody left worth while in Free Agency and dubas wont spend the assests to make a trade

Lizotte was a 2 year deal, 1.85 mil Per year Overall it wasn’t a terrible first day nor was it great, but this is what being in a transition period looks like. I will say, I do like how Dubas is stock piling picks. Right now, they have 8 picks in next year’s draft and have 9, in the ‘27 draft.

POJ was one of the biggest problems...major addition by subtraction moving him and Smith

There will be no significant additions to this roster. Beauvillier is the most significant that they will sign. They have no interest in competing anytime soon, because Dubas thinks it's impossible, because he thinks they're not close enough to invest in this group further.

Nobody ever considers Sid and Geno have been playing 82 games without injury. If 87 was injured over the last 2 years the Pens finish in the bottom of the league.

Dubas has an MO in his approach, did in the Soo in the OHL, did it in Toronto in the NHL and doing it in Pittsburgh now.....never won anywhere and most of his moves never worked out....Dubas is an average GM who is related to like he is a genius and he will now waste the final years of Sid's career and Pittsburgh doesn't know what will happen when they don't have a Lemieux and Crosby coming up next......he did the same in Toronto, loaded up on pics, prospects and short duration contracts.....and then made bad decisions on what he did with them...poor bottom 6 building, never has built a good bottom 6 because his approach is take flyers on a bunch of players no team wants and hope they have career years.....not good bottom 4 d men acquisitions.....he was given one of the most talented teams in Toronto and couldn't build a bottom 6 or bottom 4 d.....he's average at best and is going to waste the final years of Sid ....sad

Dubas is the wrong guy. Two failed offseasons in a row. The worst part is now there is no room for any young forward to make the roster out of camp. Ponomarov, Poulin, Koivunen, etc. should just go ahead and buy in Scranton. Doesn’t matter if they look good or not in camp or pre-season.
