When using the Arbor press to cut with a die cutter, could you put a self-healing cutting mat between the metal place and cutting die instead of using the cutting board like you did in the video at 5:18?
@jayplays568 You most certainly could use a self healing mat, or a piece of one. I don't think it will last as long, though. Although they are advertised as self healing, they eventually wear down over time and can be cut if you go deep enough. I felt the plastic cutting board was a better option as they last longer and won't dull your die cutting blades too bad.
@@bigstacksshop Thanks! Do you think a mat would dull the blade of the cutting die?
The tester is brilliant. I’m going to make one this afternoon for my revolving punch and drive punches.
@achadhaamoratsim7098 Thank you so much. I love my tester, but you'll have to make a new one for every new set of punches you purchase. I bought the larger set of Owden punches a while back and have to make a new tester for them.
Umm u condition ur beard with some thing from a tree, i your logic i flawed!
There is olive oil in lots of hair and skin care products.
I did a leather coaster, and tried to clean it by wiping with a paper towel wet with rubbing alcohol. It smeared horribly, and made the entire coaster gray. I will try this next time.
Bur if you soak your leather in water before burning, you will have less smoke and less burn marks. Then you can scrub and rinse it with a toothbrush and plain water.
why is my snap being not correct. they worked before but now i have messed up 9 out of 10. i don't get it. i don't have extra funds to purchase a tool press 200.00 plus that food, rent etc suggestion.
Most of these hand tools have a technique to using them. Try to keep the snap setter at a proper 90 degree angle when you are striking it. Also, make sure the post om your snap isn't too long.
How do I find the PDF patterns?

So helpful!
@pennyrobinson4266 Thank you very much.
Thank you for the useful video, which products that you make sell the best?
@TomCross945 Belts and keychains were the most popular. Keep in mind you have to be able to make them efficiently so you don't drown in your labor costs. Practice will help you become more efficient, and if they look good you can sell your practice pieces.
put stuff under the dirt like logs and the like?
@emirrp Exactly! Great filler which will break down over time.
just a tip put your designs on the laser closer so you dont have alot of waste material so you can make more. leather is not cheap ;)
@shoxdanger Dor sure, leather is expensive. - even crappy leather isn't cheap.
@@bigstacksshop so true can't find a good price for a piece xD 🤣
@shoxdanger You are correct about the pricing. It's not cheap, but leather will last a long time.
thx for the tip.
Glad this popped up in my feed, I stamped 2 pieces and it looks like garbage, I didnt wait, didnt know to wait. Now I know.
Glad to know it helped. Do they look better now?
@@bigstacksshop yes sir. Way better.
Very awesome!
I make leather products as well, but not really getting any buyers (except my sister-in-law, LOL). I have a website, but only a few products. Where's your website? I subscribed to your newsletter (and this channel), but I don't see your products. Guessing you sell locally?
I have sold locally through friends and FB marketplace. I don't keep a website because I don't make enough items right now. I use my time to make videos now, not as many items for sale. The highest demand items I made were belts and custom keychains.
Great video! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it
Good job bro
I need a class for this 😩
@vthom5379 If you have a Tandy Leather near you, I believe they offer classes. Just keep in mind, whether you take a class or teach yourself by watching my videos, practice and repetition are your best keys to success.
Got my hands on 4 gorgeous metallic shoulders and some free time so going to be making my girls and friends some cute leather earrings. 😊
@theartsypixie2771 That is so awesome, be sure to share on youtube or social media for everyone to see. I've never seen metallic shoulders before.
I've been scouring online to help you find that crate so you can finish this but I have not found any.
I did find it. My sister saw my video and solved the caper which naked the rest of us. I have everything built, just need to finish the video.
Good to see you are still hanging in there!
@revann33 Thank you. I am still here. I have a bunch of videos shot, just no time to edit them.
Price
I don't remember the price, but if you follow the link to the original video you can find the Amazon link in the description.
I let my husband talk me into buying a multicolor set on Amazon instead of the packs and sets i wanted from Weaver... came here to see what your opinion was after the snaps i installed on the wallet, i made my son, had the studs kept getting stuck in the button and popping off...😑. Had to run to tandys and unstitch a few parts to reinstall more durable ones that will last. 😊
@theartsypixie7771 Thank you for commenting. Sounds like derp down you knew exactly the leather you needed. I hope my video helped with the small choices.
Been doing research on a first laser myself. Yeah, under 50 watts is underpowered if you're cutting 1/2" plywood. Like with everything, what you're actually using the tool for matters.
@staren01 When cutting 1/2" plywood you probably are looking for something stronger than 10w. However, this advice was given to me regarding purchasing a laser engraver to put my brand on wooden objects I was selling. 50w can definitely get it done, but it's way overkill. My 10w laser does a great job with that, and id great for even 1/4" plywood. I have a 20w machine Im getting ready to review here shortly which does everything I need it to do.
@@bigstacksshop I'll definitely be interested in your opinion. I ran into similar laser snobs that seem to bash anything that isn't industrial level. They seem to carve out a little respect for the cheapest open gantry models, but anything in between is trash.
It does really depend on what you are going to do with it. If you slow down your laser speed, it can act like a high powered laser. But it also will cook your material a little bit, too. If you are running production, 50w makes sense. If you are a hobbyist working with simple materials, then a lower powered laser will work I'm editing a video about the WeCreat laser now, hopefully you'll be able to see it soon.
100% wisdom
@James-dh5sp Thank you. 💯💯💯
We need more of theese type of people with this humor 🫠 its nice watching you hope you keep it up
@YellowKingAkaNero Thank you, my friend. I keep everything up as my schedule allows. I don't have as much free time as I used to.
Ideas on alternatives for coloring leather?
@mrjoe4737 I would stick with either leather dye, or maybe cloth dye if you can't find the right color.
Hilarious, keep up the great work brother!
@askmrbubbles Thank you my friend!
Challenge excepted built mine for free
Great job my friend
@@bigstacksshop it's for my garden not for Halloween but he is kinda freaky I used a old paint ball mask and straw hat for his head he's about 6"8
🤣🤣🤣 Very awesome
Thank you so much for this video. I have always struggled with the problem of being paralyzed by wanting to get things right rather than just getting in and finishing a project warts and all, so to speak. Not wanting to screw up a few hundred dollars worth of leather while also having zero experience and zero skills, what you said makes a lot of sense. I'm off to get myself some "scribble" leather to learn on before attempting a masterpiece. 😊😊
@mattrickard3716 That's awesome. Don't be afraid, practice is how you master your skills, even when you move to good leather.
I want training
Like leathercraft training?
Hey Big Stacks, Thanks for clearing that up. I'm just getting into leather work and didn't even know what a stitching pony was. Prayers Flying from Michigan
@2woofs784 Thank you very much my friend!
what a bunch of BAD A****! makes me shiver in my shoes. Like it yesterday too.
@garykorzelius5930 Thank you for the comment. This sketch was too good not to have its own video. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm really pleased with this raised bed and would like to offer something to the Big Stacks Family of Growers and Makers. You can get 10% off a Vegega Raised Bed if you use the coupon code BIGSTACKS when you checkout. Use this link when you are ready to buy one: www.vegega.com/?ref=yakjdwug
Ok, I love the channel, and I love raised bedding gardening. We have 3 roughly 8'x4 'x16"and would have been 24" high, but then I would have lost my precious marigold and onion cubes. Now, let's get down to the brass tacks. We thought about these metal beds and looked into them, and they are nice for the small hobbyist, but I'm well, let's just say frugal. I compared many different ways to raise a bed and after looking at cost and longevity and work I was willing to put in, we built our beds out of concrete blocks, you know the kind that looks like a figure 8. We got each block for $2.00 now I see they are running $2.25, gotta love inflation. Each bed cost around $60-$75 I don't remember the exact figure. We also researched hugelkulture and thanks to our neighbors we had tons of materials to cover the limbs and branches I scavenged from a near by building site. Side note I asked before I took from the site since this is texas and well I didn't want to get shot. All the material was topped off by a potting soil mix my husband and I mix up ourselves. Again my cheapness, err frugality, at work. Now let's talk about a wee issue we struggled with, besides the uhh aches and pains on our 50yr old bodies. We had a gorgeous green vegetable garden, very green, so green nothing was fruiting except the butternut squash that took over the yard and filled up many freezers in the neighborhood. No kidding we had over 200 huge butternut squash. We researched the issue and well turns out as the logs, branches, and other plant matter is decaying it throws off your NPK, you know those 5-6-7 numbers. So some plants don't fruit because of it. However, this all rights its self after about 6-12 months and with worm castings and help from mushrooms. DONT EAT THE MUSHROOMS! We had several toxic and or inedible ones that came and went. Don't kill them as they are great for gardens but not great for consumption. They did spawn an off shoot hobby of me growing ,my own culinary and medicinal mushrooms in a green house the hubs bought me for Christmas. We now have 3 flourishing beds filled with huge outputs of tomatoes, peas, onions, garlic, rutabaga the size of watermelons(turnips better alternative) , kale, etc.. Seriously we have to give the stuff away to neighbors and bought a separate freezer because these beds do that well. 😊
@theartsypixie2771 Thank you very much for the comment and the advise. Which nutrients did you find lacking in your soil using Hugelkultur?
@bigstacksshop we had good nitrogen and potassium, but oof the phosphorus was a struggle. My daughter who has end stage renal disease would kid my husband and tell him to add dark colored sodas and chocolate to the garden since these are foods she isnt allowed to eat because of the high phosphorus levels so they are big no nose on renal diets
@@theartsypixie2771 I'll have to add some bone meal with it then. Thanks for letting me know.
Welcome back!
@revann33 thank you very much. I've got more videos planned for the next two months!

@tedblackburn8679 Thank you very much my friend, I appreciate it.
I just love your videos. You make me feel like I can do it
@loriannwulf8697 Thank you very much. You know what, you can do it ... a journey of a thousand miles behind with a single step.
There's so much valuable information in here. I feel like you went back in time and watched my Leathercraft career mistakes and lessons learned, took notes and posted it here lol. Awesome stuff. btw (i got corrected on this in an embarrassing way myself) detrimental means bad so saying that advice will be detrimental means it would be a negative thing. 😉✌
So there’s actually different snap setters for different sizes and the ones you’re using on the Weaver ones are not made for it. There is also a different post length snaps that you can get from higher end snap makers, and the snaps you have from Weaver have longer post so you need to use thicker leather. The Weaver snaps are actually some of the best quality ones you can find. The Amazon ones are pretty low quality.(usually.) but you can’t find some decent stuff, although it usually costs a bit more. Essentially the cheapest ones are made of carbon steel that’s plated with whatever color you want. The more expensive ones are made of solid brass or stainless steel and they may or may not be plated with whatever color you like (ie Nickel plated brass) or they may also just be antiqued (making the brass oxidize so it looks like antique bronze).
@AlexanderMason1 I wasn't aware you had to buy different setters depending on the brand you are using. I was informed the studded line 24 and line 20 was their own universal sizes. The post on the snap I was using was definitely too long for the thickness of leather ai was securing it on. It was designed for thicker leather.
Spoken like a true capitalist
@DecoyJayC 🤣🤣🤣
Mistakes... More like happy little accidents. If they do not ruin the project, keep them in. Gives the project character and soul.
@Asmoda281 I like your way of thinking. Bob Ross was a hero of mine because he inspired many people, including my mother, to pick pick up a paint brush and create something. I was going to do the same thing with leather craft and wood working.
I agree 100% thank you sir for your time I went with the Weaver because the Weavers are made on this side of the ocean, we once got a virus from the other side of the ocean USA👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Very awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make. Please tag me on Facebook and Instagram with @bigstacksshop if you post any pictures.
Have you tried any Temu laser engravers ? Some running real cheap with decent reviews. Most of the stuff on Amazon comes from places like that anyway.
I appreciate the request but I will not buy from certain companies. Please watch this for more information: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJiilsiHfM_Ph6w.htmlsi=zZ7H5QVDTlBVTQqB

I’m surprised you didn’t say, if you have any tools you use for leather , from harbor freight;! Put them down in the comments. Maybe 🤔 I should start a channel. Nice job thanks for sharing!
@doalex2085 That will be a great idea for when I do a follow up video. But now that you bring it up, what tools do you use from harbor freight for leathercraft, my friend?
@doalex2085 You definitely should start a channel.
Well;! For the past 25 years, I have been making leather scabbards pouches, bolt bags, and other stuff that Ironworkers use to carry their tools 🛠️ . It’s been fun, one tool that I use pretty much on every piece I make is welding pliers, to help me bend and shape, mold the leather. I like the diamond files to sharpen my hole punches, I’m always looking 👀 at all the squares , rulers stuff to measure with. I like their tool boxes too, I have one for all my bbq tools, and one for my leather tools.
Love it brother, very funny and entertaining!
@askmrbubbles Thank you my friend. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Just how often do you actually USE a pony? I'm pretty new to the hobby and so far most of my projects have me holding the leather item in my lap or on a table surface to stitch....
@tomslater7548 You don't have to use a stitching pony. I got by for a long time without one. But, they are great when you feel you are missing out because you weren't born with a third hand.
Turn them into something that brings awareness to this situation
@rickyrygg7183 I would love to do that. I just think they are so cheap if I sell them they won't bring much money.
You could set them up in a display picture frame type of thing with a description of what is going on where they are made and either sell as a awareness item or donate it as an awareness item to some awareness group to show what to look out for ,just one thought but don't get too down on yourself for not knowing we as mortals can not know everything, god bless.
@rickyrygg7188 Thank you my friend. I'm not really down on myself a much as angry at the cowards who do these things. God bless you as well, my friend.
Where do you find that Ram Mount?
