Ok, I love the channel, and I love raised bedding gardening. We have 3 roughly 8'x4 'x16"and would have been 24" high, but then I would have lost my precious marigold and onion cubes. Now, let's get down to the brass tacks. We thought about these metal beds and looked into them, and they are nice for the small hobbyist, but I'm well, let's just say frugal. I compared many different ways to raise a bed and after looking at cost and longevity and work I was willing to put in, we built our beds out of concrete blocks, you know the kind that looks like a figure 8. We got each block for $2.00 now I see they are running $2.25, gotta love inflation. Each bed cost around $60-$75 I don't remember the exact figure. We also researched hugelkulture and thanks to our neighbors we had tons of materials to cover the limbs and branches I scavenged from a near by building site. Side note I asked before I took from the site since this is texas and well I didn't want to get shot. All the material was topped off by a potting soil mix my husband and I mix up ourselves. Again my cheapness, err frugality, at work. Now let's talk about a wee issue we struggled with, besides the uhh aches and pains on our 50yr old bodies. We had a gorgeous green vegetable garden, very green, so green nothing was fruiting except the butternut squash that took over the yard and filled up many freezers in the neighborhood. No kidding we had over 200 huge butternut squash. We researched the issue and well turns out as the logs, branches, and other plant matter is decaying it throws off your NPK, you know those 5-6-7 numbers. So some plants don't fruit because of it. However, this all rights its self after about 6-12 months and with worm castings and help from mushrooms. DONT EAT THE MUSHROOMS! We had several toxic and or inedible ones that came and went. Don't kill them as they are great for gardens but not great for consumption. They did spawn an off shoot hobby of me growing ,my own culinary and medicinal mushrooms in a green house the hubs bought me for Christmas. We now have 3 flourishing beds filled with huge outputs of tomatoes, peas, onions, garlic, rutabaga the size of watermelons(turnips better alternative) , kale, etc.. Seriously we have to give the stuff away to neighbors and bought a separate freezer because these beds do that well. 😊

@theartsypixie2771 Thank you very much for the comment and the advise. Which nutrients did you find lacking in your soil using Hugelkultur?

@bigstacksshop we had good nitrogen and potassium, but oof the phosphorus was a struggle. My daughter who has end stage renal disease would kid my husband and tell him to add dark colored sodas and chocolate to the garden since these are foods she isnt allowed to eat because of the high phosphorus levels so they are big no nose on renal diets
