I'm a DIY mechanic and I love anything to do with cars. Join me as I maintain and modify my own cars and also ones from friends and family. I'll share the journey of where my automotive interests take me, weather its working away in the shed with various jobs, a street machine meet or a 4wd trip. I'll be aiming to make my videos as usable guides for many of the jobs that I doing, just to share the info. My aim is to release a new video each week on Thursdays, so consider subscribing to the channel so you don't miss any of it.
I'm a fixed plant fitter by trade (pumps, compressors, turbines, gear reduction drives etc..)and mainly worked in heavy industry and mining and I'm currently in the reliability field

    This is a great video! My car has been leaking oil pretty hard. I changed the oil filter and after that it went worse. So I’m assuming it’s coming from the oil cooler as I must have put a bit of stress on the cooler when changing my filter and really gave way. I’ll use this video to change it. Thanks heaps.

    There's a filter pad between the metal plates - From memory the factory filter has a rivet holding them together. In the past I've separated the two plates and put in a new filter pad - then bolted them together with a new oring.

  • @Shanes_Shed

    We’ve just had this happen in our discovery 4. Noticed a whooshing sound on acceleration and lots of soot down the side of the turbo (155k miles) Garage says it’s a body off job. I’m selling to someone who has time / access to a lift or looking for a replacement engine. When my three young children are grown up, when I can pay for a cleaner to clean my house and a gardener to manage the lawn, hedges and trees, and chop wood etc, when I’ve painted and decorated the house to my wife’s satisfaction,, I may well have the time and money to play with Land Rovers again, but at the moment I just haven’t got the time, or the tools to fix, or pay my local guy to fix (his wife has several horses which I’m sure we’ve been subsidising 😂). Great cars, bloody complicated engines and body off limit the DIYer in what he can do. I reckon we’ve foregone some good family holidays forking out repairs on the Disco. Probably not a good use of money but when you’re wafting down the road you do feel like a king! Where to go from here? Suggestions welcome. Did you bother fixing yours or throw in the towel?

  • @Shanes_Shed
    @Shanes_ShedАй бұрын

    Attempted to fix mine body on, but rounded the bit on the easiest to access bolt so decided it wasn’t worth pursuing any further - I was planning on selling it after the fix anyway so the cost of paying someone to do a body off repair just wasn’t economical viable. I don’t have a lift and just don’t have the spare time to do it somewhere else. Awesome vehicles when they are running. I brought an older GQ patrol but considering a 150 prado as a replacement

  • @Himoutdoors

    I need to do an update on these -its well overdue. Mine would have (off the top of my head) 60,000km+ on them now. Apart from some wear on the inside edges (alignment and not a fault of the tyre) the bulk of the tread still has 8mm depth. They are lasting very well. If they still have decent tread then I'd say its worth it (providing the price is right of course)

    Sounds like a worn CV - normally get the clicking in the front when turning as the CV's generally wear in the normal straight ahead position. When turning the CV balls are running over the wear grooves and you get the clicking. Probably your experiencing the same thing in the rear due to a slightly different ride height from the suspension change.

    How do you know if a mechanic has put in the wrong oil in your car? Have found one was going to do this, but I had read the manual and pulled him up in time, and the other actually did then claimed it didn't matter but I know it does damage, albeit slowly. I think because I'm a female with a young voice they think I'm stupid.

  • @Shanes_Shed
    @Shanes_ShedАй бұрын

    Without doing a used oil sample your not really going to know what oil is in there, but that will only really give an idea of viscosity and basic additive pack. You won’t be able to tell what brand and spec it is precisely. Unless it’s been filled with modern ultra low viscosity oil like a 0w20 or lower then I wouldn’t loose any sleep over it
