What to do I plan to do with my new GQ Patrol? Mods Time

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Last episode I chatted to Byron about my new GQ Patrol. Today discuss my initial modification plans that I would like to get done. This is a low dollar task and there will be nothing excessive or over the top with this build. Of course if you have any further suggestions or feedback please drop a comment!

Nice fairly clean GQ that mate, I heard those LED lights are pretty amazing, keen to see how that goes. Sounds like a cool build, have owned several GQ's in the past they are terrific solid rigs. Sounds like you're going to have fun over time building this, keen to watch, just take your time and keep an eye on market place like I normally do lol

It reminds me of my 80 series cruisers a lot - power is similar to the 1hz, but the 80 definitely drove a little nicer on the road. I’ve been keeping an eye on marketplace for various things, so many good deals out there. Just need to figure out a way to get some more free time

Yeah the 80's are definitely nicer to drive but you can make the GQ's to be just as good, least ya got a very good driveline in the GQ. Yeah free time, its difficult, bit better now without having young kids lol

With the AC not working, could be possible that the coil inside the cabs got a fairly decent hole in it somewhere. Same can be said for the coil in front of the radiator, although I think it more likely the cabs coil mainly because its always damp when its running and that can eat away at the coil and cause a leak. Not sure.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve eyeballed most of the pipe work and hoses and they look ok. Guess I’m just going to have to get it gassed up and look for the leak spot with the UV light

@@Shanes_Shed Yeah, that's probably the best idea. I know they do sell leak detectors so you can pinpoint where the leak/leaks are exactly, but I can imagine they're not cheap.

It’s not too difficult. The hardest choice so far is trying to decide which way to go for the aux battery source. I’m leaning towards lithium and while I was away at work I was thinking a battery box with charger and all the power outlets already on it would be a nice simple way to go. Until I got home and put the tape measure in the back - dam things are a lot bigger than I pictured in my head. So now I’m thinking a slimline battery under the 2nd row seat might work the best

Check the play in the from steering arms and rods. They get hammered and are the source of a lot of the vague steering feel in the gq. When I sorted mine out it transformed the handling on my 97 GQ tray back. Mine had lasted 10 years before they needed changing out.

Yeah I’ll be going through it mechanically to see what it’s all like shortly. I’ve still hardly had the time to give this thing a good going over.

It was defiantly a thought of mine, but with the 3rd row of seats being in use it really limits space in the back, and adding a 100amp battery in a suitably sized box is just not making efficient use of the available space. To this end I’m thinking that a slimer battery that will fit under the 2nd row seats is the way I will go, will most likely be smaller at 50ah, but it could always be expanded to another battery on the other side in the future if needed.
