    32 Is my magic number for lands 🙂 But I run more like 17 to 25 ramp depending on the deck. Do I miss land drops sometimes after turn three or four? Absolutely! But by then I usually have seven or eight mana available and don't necessarily need a ton more.

    The thirteenth doctor could be a good addition. Handy to be able to steal some strong attackers/blockers from opponents and make them semi-vigilant.

    One of the other benefits of this deck is that you can NOT cast cards you steal. If you pinch a card that synergises with an opponents deck really well but doesn't help you, leave it in exile! If you can't use it, they can't have it. Yeehaw.

    I mean... I love white so: I win through life gain. I win through non-combat damage. I win through the many cards that simply say: you win the game if you do this. I win with white by blowing up their fields and blinking mine off it so I can causally send them across the field. I don't need flying to win, but they are nice blockers.

    Counter point there are white cards that can make you problem if you are playing a "white weeny" deck. Cathars crusade, into a board wipe that generates creature tokens destroys all other creatures with a mondrack, on the field is basicly, wait a turn and just win unless they can do something about it.

    I talk about this online whenever I get the chance, but I Just still cannot find a good solution short of changing stores. My shop is super casual. We aren't even officially sanctioned. We maybe have a dozen or so players at most. Of those players, the majority of them are all about the same power level. Ironically, probably between a 6 and a 7. There are a few of them who can comfortably play at a 7-8. But there is one player in the shop who can play at a 10 basically. He is a veteran player who's frankly getting bored of game at this point. He's seen all the different themes and archetypes and played them all as well at one time or another. He's said he's bored of most of them. That and for his skill level, people "unfairly" target him as the archenemy all the time no matter what. He's tired of being archenemy when he insists that his deck are not optimized to their max and thus he shouldn't be automatically targeted. So he makes challenge decks that are limited based on challenge criteria. This is way to test his skill as a player, while also nerfing the deck for us. Even so, his win rate is still above 80%. His player skill and ability to politic the table is just so much better than the rest of us, that he can usually win with a straight precon. Commander is my first card game where the format is centered on 'fun' rather than competition. I'm used to cut throat stuff from Yugioh and other games. So I know i personally struggle with the idea of keeping it casual enough. Though to be fair, I don't consider any of my decks to be too strong. My main deck is a Slimefoot and Squee deck that leans into effect damage as the win condition. I think the most 'meta' card I'm running is a Dockside. Maybe 2/10 games I get lucky and am able to go infinite with it. But that is not the focus. This deck can do some very strong things, but it's also very fragile and slow to get started. As such, I don't consider the deck stronger than a 7 or so. Anyways, this other player I was starting to talk about, his current decks vary a little as he gets bored quickly, but he has a mono blue Unesh sphinx deck. He claims the deck is only even playable if he can cast the commander by turn 4 at the latest. Otherwise it's too slow. But the way he plays the deck, he built it to turbo loop those fact or fiction effects and generate constant value. He's rocking all the fast mana in this deck and storm cards plus extra turn cards. He's great at the mind game part because he'll do low-key things like flicker a random sphinx a few times to get the commander effect but otherwise, he's not doing too much. So if you try to remove his commander he gets mad that we're unfairly targeting him. But if we leave him alone, he'll hit a tipping point with Mind Over Matter and AetherFlux. He has a Kenrith deck that he built as a tribal Legends theme. Just tons of good value legendary creatures. His early game is slow and fragile so if you attack him early game, he gets angry for poor threat assessment. But his entire goal is incremental advantage. His goal isn't some sudden combo win, instead he slowly starts to amass redundant layers of protection and activated ability reduction. By the time he drops a Selvala or Seedborn muse, it's too late to stop anything. He's had games where he plays Zacama Primal Calamity with activated ability reductions onboard. I'll claim the game is over because he can just spot remove anything he wants whenever he wants. He says no it's not over because he'd have to dump all his mana into those effects. Maybe I'm the one who's wrong, but from my view, he's trying to downplay the fact that he has total board control and act like if we just play smarter, he'll lose. But what annoys me the most is that he's the single best player in our shop, yet he's also the ONLY player in the shop to fuss about what he wants or doesn't want to play against. He refuses to play against any form of theft effects because he finds it insulting to him as a player. He spent all these hours deck building and playtesting and doesn't want to then have his cards claimed by the opponent. I personally feel like his entire agenda at this shop is to pad his own ego for easy wins. I can't really talk to him about it though because for some reason, I'm the only person in the shop who sees any kind of issue here. No one else thinks there is a problem. In a fair game of commander, everyone's win rate should be about 25%. And if I'm playing in a pod without him, that is true. So that alone confirms my point.

    Key note: for this specific example and situations similar to it (buffing your creature to prevent your own spell from killing it) it's oftentimes a better idea to simply cast the buff spell first. I.E. cast Boros charm with indestructibility mode chosen, and let it fully go around. If it resolves, you can cast the board wipe afterwards. If it gets countered, you can decide afterwards if you want to board wipe or not.

  • @hollowoat

    Most people would let the charm resolve and counter the boardwipe, no?

  • @eternaleclypse
    @eternaleclypse4 сағат бұрын

    @hollowoat, while getting rid of the boardwipe is a good option, here is something to consider. If you counter the boardwipe, you'd still be in danger of taking a alpha strike and losing your board through blocks. If you counter the charm, and they still boardwipe, then everyone is set back to the same state.

    My argument for proxies is if you're testing a 95% proxy deck, you should probably be goldfishing it. Or with friends, or maybe in a spell table with people who are cool. I'm a deck I'm playing at an LGS, I might proxy cards that are OTW to me, but maybe I haven't received yet. If the group isn't cool with it, I'll remove them and play regularly.

    I suppose the only way this would work as intended is if the original caster was trying to bait out something before casting the bigger card. They’re hoping that the opponent has something which will allow them to play that indestructible spell /knowing/ that the opponents don’t have a counter for it because they’ve used it already

    Yeah the upgrades all make sense. All in all the deck seems a bit more focussed on its artifacts. The problem is just that the power level is still way off of what most people build. Am still gonna try this one out

    The spree cards are so much better than you guys gave them credit for. They have been swinging games at my LGS since their inception. Even in cEDH. Lavaspur boots are pretty good too because ward doesn't deter your ability to play cards whereas hexproof just has opponents holding onto removal.

    This may be something that you guys dont are fully aware of, but this show makes a lot easier for ones that are not english native speakers to watch. When game knight started, I was just learning english and I felt I could do it due to videos from this channel, not only the show. Magic is a hobby so it's familiar for some people and it narrows down the subject, what makes the conversation more oriented and it facilitates a lot the whole process. I think this happen because of the quality and the care about the product. Nowadays it's easier to find another shows that are good too, but, back then, it was it.

    This video was so relevant to my last game. Kardur was cloned by different people, The Second Doctor says you can’t attack if you drew a card. Then Take the Bait was cast goading all the attacking creatures and so the entire table had goaded 1 player effectively ungoading them in the process. It was great fun and played according to the rules

    Interesting she picked skull clamp, considering it is not in her Rakdos Lord of Riots deck. In fact, I don't think I've seen it in any Rakdos Lord of Riots deck. I think it would still be really good, if you swap the upkeep burn/ tap to ping creatures with menace/flying/shadow ones. Skull Clamp those, and the opponent suddenly has to decide between not blocking and taking life damage (thus enabling Rakdos) vs. blocking to kill the creature...and letting you draw two cards. Seems at least flavour win. Come to think of it, none of these equipments are in that deck...except perhaps a rare embercleave or helm of the host.
