    Using extra turns to show off different aspects of commander (like budget deck building) that Game Knights can't is why I love it so much.

  • @Cephalopopo

    @Cephalopopo

    2 ай бұрын

    It's great but disagree on that. Bearforce was on game knights and it was effectively budget. People can indeed show off creative and or budget stuff there, they just don't.

  • @Ghost26968

    @Ghost26968

    2 ай бұрын

    @Cephalopopo That is one guest playing a budget deck, though. I'm talking about setting up the pod so they are on theme. That's hard to do with Game Knights since its just a vehicle for whatever new set is coming out, but extra turns allows that flexibility.

  • @Cephalopopo

    @Cephalopopo

    2 ай бұрын

    @@Ghost26968 unless this is a wizards commercial series I still don't see why it is not possible to do budget friendly decks with a new set. I give you an example. Let's say the eldrazi make their return. Now they could call the episode in the wake of the titans, and then they make 4 budget decks that for instance tell the story of some place that is affected by the eldrazi, but from the point of view of just common people vs some eldrazi titan's footmen. Something like that would be very flavourful and doable. I get your point I just don't think it has to be that way. That one guest's deck did not match the others in power level yet he just had a great creative mind and even won once. They should not use the printed commanders anyway, it is just very lame and pushes commander away from its original spirit anyway ..

    $100 budget is a fun restriction if you're not used to a budget. It becomes a balancing act - "I could include Card X, but that card's $8, which is a large part of my budget for one card, which means I have to cut back somewhere else". I have an Obeka $100 budget deck that I like to play, and sometimes the price of something jumps and you have to decide if it's still work including or if you need to replace it with something cheaper and less effective.

  • @kingofbudokai

    @kingofbudokai

    $100 I don't even consider "budget". That's just a legitimate deck at that point. Not "optimized" no, but genuinely strong. You can easily make a 6-7 power deck with that much money. There are thousands of good cards that are $2 or less in commander. Budget, in my mind, is $50 or less.

    I'd love to hear Jimmy's reasoning for targeting the empty graveyard @30 mins when Josh was clearly miles ahead and had already shown that he had graveyard recursion cards and was playing simic which has tons of ways to get stuff from the grave or unsummon and recast cards on the field. Exiling traverse the outlands would have had a massive impact on Josh's speed and ability to come back from board wipes. Exiling Mia's graveyard did nothing. There's no political argument either - Josh was already so far ahead that nobody could possibly object to you targeting him with everything you had.

    I think the epitome of this episode is strategy vs social contract. Ie. is it the right play strategically to counter your ramp or your commander? Definitely. Is it the right thing to do in a game that is centered around the environment and having fun? Now it gets hazy. Learning how to walk that line I think is integral to the gameplay experience you and the group want to have, but is definitely hard to do The JLK game knights interview impression was spot on 😂 This might be minute, but I noticed a change and I wanted to point it out. i enjoyed the closeups on each person from time to time. I run Ley Weaver and Krosan Restorer in two of my decks (they combo with Maze of Ith), as well as Magus of the Candelabra, Hope Tender, and Argothian Elder. I've had plays like that, where I untap an opponent's land. It's really fun. I also run Skullwinder, and it can lead to some epic plays too.

    Shigeki! he's so good! Four mana Regrowth isn't a great rate, but instant speed makes it WAY better. (And it's mostly uncounterable, and can be done through a Rule of Law). Then you add the other modes like six mana for two cards, or eight mana for four cards, etc (and all still at instant speed), plus Shigeki's actual abilities when he's a creature. It's an amazing card. I once got a T2 win because of Shigeki: T1 Forest Magus of the Candelabra T2 Maze of Ith Sol Ring attack with Magus Crop Rotation (exiling, Elvish Spirit Guide, sacrificing Forest), finding Lotus Field with Lotus Field's ETB trigger on the stack make infinite mana with Magus/Maze/Field channel Shigeki, getting Forest and Crop Rotation back to hand Crop Rotation (sacrificing Lotus Field), finding Voldaren Estate make infinite Blood tokens with Magus/Maze/Estate sac blood tokens until I have Yeva and Nylea Keen-Eyed in hand flash in Yeva flash in Nylea Nylea finds all my creatures flash in Surrak and Goreclaw flash in Temur Sabertooth flash in Shaman of Forgotten Ways flash in Kogla Kogla + Sabertooth fight the world activate Shaman to make my opponents' life totals go to 0 (he has haste from Surrak and Goreclaw) GG!

    I play a lot of spell lands, AND bounce lands in even my mid power decks. Sometimes that bounce land draws you a spell.
