Our family loves to get outside and explore new places and activities - our biggest draw is overland camping in our 2021 Polaris General 4 - with both of our kids! Overlanding has taken us to all sorts of places we never knew existed, and it's helped us teach our children about resilience, problem solving, self-sufficiency, nature and more. But most of all it's a ton of fun!!!

It doesn't matter if you live in the city or country - we want to help you find ways to get outside with your family too! We love hearing from subscribers who tell us our trips inspired them to get outside. That's what it's all about.

Please go hit that subscribe button and be sure to check out the LinkTree Link above - those are the best ways you can show your support. We add new videos as often as we can - we're normal people with real jobs and adventuring is our hobby. We just like sharing our adventures through our content!

    Been looking at the Core 9/10p tents for me, my wife, 8yo, and maybe dog. I skimmed through your other two videos, never knew the UTVs could be used like this. Pretty cool! I am wanting to get back into camping to get my kiddo into the outdoors & to get to dark skies as I am into astronomy. Though plan on doing car camping. Currently waffleing between the 9p rainfly instant version and a 10p instant w/ canopy at Costco. Don't know if we would be as hard core as you guys as rain isn't compatible with clear skies, though the rain fly might be better for just in case. How is the ventilation vs. your old 10p?

    Hi TNF: Would it be possible for you to take a video of the underside of the trailer and show it? Or just describe it? I'm planning to start making trailers like that and was wondering about the construction. Seems like the axels are mounted directly to the main deck frame (I'm guessing this is to make it sit lower) but there is no extra bracing where the axels are tied to the deck frame? If that were a single axle trailer it would be a massive weak spot for material fatique - but since you have 2 axels I guess it won't be as critical? Would appreciate an answer from you or others that know how the trailer is braced / stiffened under the deck?

    Very informative video. It looks like we ride some of the same roads, I live in Ridgeway and saw the Hyde Mill in the video. Would you still recommend these tires for mainly pavement riding with some mixed trail riding in SW WI?

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily
    @TheNorthwoodsFamily21 күн бұрын

    Yep! We are just to the east of Ridgeway a bit. If you want to reach out via our website, Northwoods.family we can chat more - don’t want to publicly post our address :) These tires are great for road riding. So much better than the factory tires!! We’ve used these tires on everything from roads, to rocky trails, gravel, dirt even some mud. Really happy with them. We are actually running the 10-ply aramid version now - probably overkill for riding in Wisconsin but for our out west trips the added durability and puncture resistance is nice. If you pick some up - do us a favor and use the link in our video description to take you to the website - it helps us keep our channel going :)

    I have several actually in use around my property or for my truck in a pinch. It would be nice to be able to hold more than 3 gals in each on our trips. I’d need to find a solution to mount them outside on the cargo rack because I don’t want to carry fuel in my cargo bed (nor do I have room for it!)

    Nice video except you don't have your machine strapped side to side. So in an emergency maneuver, there is nothing preventing your machine from turning over. Front to back is not sufficient. I'd strongly recommend adding straps that hold it side to side.

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily
    @TheNorthwoodsFamily27 күн бұрын

    So let’s say I swerve right, when I correct the swerve, weight transfers to the right side. So you’re saying the left side of the machine will lift off the deck and roll off my trailer? How are the straps on my left side of the machine going to allow the left side to lift off the deck? The simply can’t unless they break The straps have a fixed length when they are locked in. One strap cannot shift its angle off the deck, or even laterally, because there are three other straps that are also locked at a fixed distance. For the left rear strap to pivot to the right, the only way for that to happen is for the machine to shift backwards too. The front straps will not allow that to happen. And vice versa. I’m not saying other techniques (x pattern, using the wheels, etc) doesn’t work equally well. But not a single person who has commented on this video has shown any evidence or reasoning behind their argument. It’s all anecdotal. I’ve looked for tests and haven’t seen them. If you know of one please share, genuinely I’d like to see. Not trying to be rude, we can agree to disagree but I don’t see how what you’re saying will happen is geometrically possible without multiple straps breaking.

    I'm pretty sure his aluminum trailer doesn't weigh fourteen hundred pounds especially with tandem axle.

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily
    @TheNorthwoodsFamily27 күн бұрын

    Would you expect it to be more or less? I’ve never weighed it on a scale, but the manufacturer’s website says “curb weight” for this specific model is 1487 lbs. The certificate of origin gives a “shipping weight” of 1480 lbs. Next time I take a load of junk to the dump I’ll ask them if I can weigh it quick.

    Custer peak is amazing however if you want a truly amazing trail that will also challenge you check out camp 5! its not for the feint at heart and requires some skill to traverse some bigger rocks, but my god is it a fun trail and the views down in the creek bed with towering cliffs all around is just unbelievable. its not overly long but does take a while to get through due to the heavy amount of rocks you have to go over. I go twice a year to the black hills and I have yet to find a trail quite as good as camp 5. If you're shy about scratching your machine or bottoming out then you wont like this trail as it requires a bit of abuse to get through ;) but that's what they are made for. I also love driving through spearfish canyon. incredible view, lots of places to stop, and a few amazing walking trails and water features everywhere for the family to enjoy. the best part is your phones don't work in the canyon! also keep in mind most trails have a 64 in max machine width restriction on them so if you have a wide machine you'll need to do some planning.

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily
    @TheNorthwoodsFamily21 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the info! I remember we looked at the Camp 5 trails but just didn’t work out into our plan. We’re definitely not shy about getting our machine scratched up! We’re pretty tough on it! Really appreciate the heads up. Next time we’re out there, we’ll definitely check them out. Our machine is 64” on paper but now with aftermarket tires, I think it’s close and depends on how it’s loaded and everything. I’ve heard they’ve gotten stricter with checking and measuring. Not that we’d knowingly disregard the regulations, but I’d also be frustrated if we got a ticket for being 1/2” over because we were carrying a heavy load.

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily

    You can zip all of the door and window flaps completely up on the fly. Ventilation is very good… and you can always go no fly too if you don’t think it will rain. If you click on our videos tab… watch the two we did recently in Utah, we put it to the test and it worked great.

    We bought our UTV in august of 23 and now have 1200 ish miles on it and almost every mile has been on this trail or around Monroe on road routes for errands and what not. Your video shines a good light on this trail and doesn't focus on the two downsides everyone else does, that it's dusty and rather flat. Other than those 2 things it's got a whole lot going for it and for me especially the trail is about a mile from my house on the south west side of Monroe. Used mine for the first time this last weekend. I set it up just like you did, but when i went to put the floor in, it couldnt connect at all points because it was staked out farther than the floor. Unfortunately, i was setting it up by myself, in a rainstorm. I had to abandon it after the first night because there was so much rain that was flowing to the front door and vestibule and eventually getting inside. The one night i did get to enjoy it, it was awesome and the G-Stove XL kept it warm and dry inside.
