Moose Encounter at Camp! UTV Overlanding Idaho Part 5 [Polaris General 4 Camping]

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We're on our fifth day of UTV Overlanding out of our Polaris General 4 1000. After spending two nights at an amazing remote campsite in Stanley, we set out camp at almost 8,000 feet at a spot called Trinity Lakes. The 132 mile trip today did not go smoothly however! After crashing our drone onto the side of the mountain, Adrian attempted to cross a mountain river to go find it. That mission set us back several hours and we were in danger of not making our camp in time. But all the struggled was worth it when we came across some amazing wildlife on the way!!

    @@TheNorthwoodsFamily Even if your children can't fully understand or appreciate these experiences, now, they will will be so much richer for it later. It's sad most sit at home on a tablet, computer or in front of the TV and don't know what's really out there. When you saw the moose, and your daughter said, " Where's it's momma?"... Priceless ,♥️

    I agree with Idaho Shepherd. You are an inspiration to all of us to go see some more of this great country. Any time you want to come to Utah and our world class trails, I'd be gad to point you in the right direction.

    Thanks Reed! We’re thinking possibly doing Utah next year. Kim’s dad races motorcycle at Bonneville during Speedweek and we’ve been down there the last two years. We may tack a week onto that trip next year if we can swing it.

    Hello fellow Wisconsinites. I want to express my true appreciation for all you guys have done to document your journeys. We just purchased a General a couple months ago and are beginning to plan a few of our future adventures. We have used your videos as much of our inspiration. We realize how much work goes into creating content like you have done and just want you both to know it is appreciated.

    Hey Brad! Thanks for the message! Always great to have another Wisconsinite following the channel! Really appreciate the kind words. It’s awesome hearing stuff like this, glad you’re enjoying the videos. We’re planning on doing a BIG Wisconsin ride next summer, should be cool! Thanks for joining us and let us know how things go with the new machine!

    Incredible content. Always enjoy watching your videos. Last years family excursion to Tennessee was largely inspired by your travels. We are doing our first overlanding trip next summer. Thanks for encouraging this couch potato to get off my tuchus and create awsome memories with my family. Keep up the great work!

    I did, it was about 20 feet up in a tree. It was flying a planned route and I miss judged the tree height at one part of the path.

    What a wonderful adventure. I really enjoy all your videos. Thanks so much for leaving in the part about the drone, so many other people I think would edit that out. But that's the thing about true adventures some times shit happens and I'm glad you included it makes the experience in the end seem more real at least to me. Thanks again. What's the drone you all are using? take amazing video.

    Thanks! Yeah, I agree that’s part of the adventure. That drone crash was a big part of the day 😆 it really threw us for a loop and we weren’t sure we’d make our destination in time. But that hadn’t happened we wouldn’t have seen that moose on the way in so who knows? I probably should have left more in but I thought the video would be too long. I crossed that river back and forth three times. This drone is a DJI Air2S. It’s been pretty good takes really nice video. We also have a DJI Mini we used in some of our earlier videos. The Air2S is a little faster, has a better battery life and can fly in higher winds so it does better for us on these trips. We really think the aerial shots add a nice touch to the videos especially with the amazing landscapes we like to find.

    Good morning,well I spent another evening with your family, overloading in Idaho. You told me that you were trying out different tires. With all the pavement you ride which tires do you prefer. Yes I'm asking for a recommendation!

    Excellent! So glad you joined us. The tires we are running now are 28” Falcon Ridge Cougars. In full disclosure, the company sent them to us no charge to run, but we’ve been really happy with the ride on and off pavement and we’d totally buy a set. They’re a newer tire brand - but a sister company to Seizmik do they’ve been doing SxS stuff for a while. We’ve been really happy with the ride on and off pavement, tread life so far is good too. How is your expedition rack holding up or should I say the dump bed on your general I'm looking at buying a rack but questioning the dump bed. I heard there bending the frame for the box. Thank you for your time. Great videos. Doing SD this September. Staying at camp ground in rv . Iam getting old

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily

    @TheNorthwoodsFamily

    The frame hasn’t bent that I can see but the plastic sides of the box spread a little so our gate wasn’t latching consistently. I added some short spacers to the doohickeys the latch hooks into and it’s been fine. The versatility and cargo capacity we’ve gotten from the rack has far outweighed any issues like that we’ve had. Have fun on the trip! Staying in an RV sounds great! Sometimes we just like to kick back too. Not every adventure has to include a lot of work!

    We travel to Wisconsin and the U.P. about every summer. We have been there so many times it is time for us to explore other venues. We have been to the Hatfield McCoy system, Harlan county Kentucky and Windrock as well as Ocalla National forest in Florida. We went to the black hills several years ago but are now considering going back to the Black Hills or possibly Idaho, which do you prefer?

  • @TheNorthwoodsFamily

    @TheNorthwoodsFamily

    They were both really cool in their own ways. Idaho is by far more remote at least the Boise range and Sawtooths. Even the towns we stopped in - Idaho City, Stanley, were tiny and far between. The mountains are larger and more scenic - EVERYWHERE was breathtakingly scenic. There’s more to do in the Black Hills when you’re not riding, it’s easier to resupply and there are more interconnected trails. Our kids like the Black Hills better. Black Hills is a lot easier to plan. It’s probably safer from a not getting stranded standpoint. Idaho if you look at the NF motor vehicle use maps you see there aren’t any really any marked UTV trails, just “roads” but the roads we went on were all very much trail-like. You just kind of have to go and explore. Idaho will be more of a by the seat of your pants adventure. So… based on where you’ve been, my own biases, I would lean towards saying you need to see some BIG mountains. And Idaho has those. If we could do it again, we would go right to Stanley and spend more time there and probably north towards Salmon. Though Trinity Lakes was amazing too. We really liked the Stanley area and friends have told us Salmon is probably the most beautiful part of the state. My opinion :)
