Videos about my ‘14 Yamaha XT250 Dual Sport.
I'm a beginner to motorcycle riding and the first moto I got is a 2014 Yamaha XT250. You can't find many reviews or videos about this dual sport so thought I'd share my experiences as both a new motorcyclist and new owner of the Yamaha XT250.
My disclaimer: I'm no moto vlogger. I don't do riding videos and I don't really edit videos. It's one take, only take and production quality is low. Just me and an old iphone 6s! I hope you can overlook the low quality and get some good info from this channel.

Nah!!! 👎 if I need all that on my bike I'll just get in my car
😂 Well, car camping is fun… if you really like being a cager. 😅

@@XT250allday you don't camp inside your car friend just like you don't camp on a motorcycle unsafely loaded down with stuff.

Anyone have a recommendation for where to buy tire levers? Looking for the 17, 19 and 22mm axle wrench / tire lever combination for my XT250.
I got the aluminum 22 Tusk brand from RockyMountain ATV/MC. The steel 17 and 19 were hard to find… DRC brand and I can’t remember where I picked them up.
exactly the video i was looking for. Thanks!
Where did you get the Tusk 17 and 19? Don't see them on amazon
The 17 & 19 are not Tusk. They are DRC & steel not aluminum. I wish they were. But I do like the DRC’s spoon shape better than the Tusk.
@@XT250allday thanks!
So you would use the 21" tube in the 18" tire if that had the flat?
Yes… it works to get you down the trail. Depending on the situation, patching your 18“ tube can be an option.
@@XT250allday thanks!
What's the 17, 19, and 22 on the spoon for?
Axel bolts
Thanks!
You don't have to apologize for your video quality. I like what you do. Easy, simple, good info. Thank you
Have you changed the wheel bearings
Never have, re-greased but they look good.
Can I ask what year the bike is?I just bought a 2008.
2014 - the best year. 🙂
good job
Looks great!
Awww, no startup!! I wanted to hear the engine. Lol thanks for sharing.
New pipe made no difference, sounds just like always.
Did I hear that right. He let the air out of his tire. Dented both rims ripped off the turn signal smashed up to sprocket guard and strip the drain plug for the oil drain I'm going to guess there was alcohol involved😮😅😮😅
Ha ha ha - zero alcohol when riding. With 13K miles now, the XT is smashing right along and I just gave it a bit of a refresh, including a new header pipe- check it out!
I removed my passenger foot rests so they are out of the way for mud paddling sitshiations.
Too many kiddie rides to lose my footpegs - but I feel you!
Good morning, The header and all your mods look great. You're an inspiration to all of us with an XT250.
mines about to hit 20k i just bought it and the only issues is its got a lot of rust and the spark arrestor is leaking because its rusted out. any advice on what to do about the frame rust? most of it is pretty good but the area under seat is pretty rusty and a few of the other areas have some surface rust to
I touch up the frame by sanding a bit and hitting it with with a satin black spray paint.
It would be interesting to see before and after cylinder temperature in high ambient temperatures up long grades or in headwind on highway to see if this type of mod which blocks air flow actually affects engine cooling. Old air cooled off road bikes had high fenders and less sophisticated materials in the engine than the XT. No I don’t have measuring equipment to test this either lol. Thanks for the video.
I don’t think there will be a difference & looking at a new Yamaha TT-R 230 made up my mind to do this front fender mod. Should be plenty of air flow still going around the engine and past the cooling fins after this mod. But yes, it would be interesting to measure.
Good video.
Nice job on the bolt extract. Is there a kit available for raising the front-back fender? I made a pair of extensions from heavy duty curtain rod brackets for my XT.
Not that I know of. Lots of people use brackets to raise the lower front fender - I just happen to like the look of a single high fender more than the split high/low fender look.
You happy wth the tires?
Very. Like this combo a lot. 👍🏼
Good morning, I have a 23 XT250 I did a rear fender delete. Changed it to a JDM tail and installed a tail light from Japan. I would like to send you a couple of pictures.
The JDM light package was better all around & I wish we had the front grab handle as well! What's your email address?
Hi - I enjoy your XT videos. Will blocking cooling air flow to the engine with the “dirt bike” front fender mod be less than ideal if you ride at high throttle settings in hot weather? Like uphill on roads? I see people raising the lower piece off the tire with brackets for mud.
I don’t see that being a problem at all - look at the air cooled Yamaha TT-R 230 as an example.
Nice upgrades. I like that bag system also. Cool.
Enjoying your content! I just purchased an XT250 and live in the Jeremy Ranch area. Thanks again, Dave!
Ride on Dave!
How's that headlight holding up so far?
All good - no issues.
@XT250allday I went on their website and didn't see that headlight anywhere for sale. Did they stop making it?
tach-industries.com/collections/yamaha-xt250-parts/products/yamaha-xt250-dot-approved-led-headlight-kit It’s a small biz - you should ask. tach-industries.com/pages/contact-us
Is it possible to find out what rack your buddy used to mount the bags? It looks to be simple & flat. Thanks.

It's crazy how some people come up with these ideas, like the bike bags and a rack made for a Suzuki for a Yamaha. Do like your videos. @@XT250allday
@@garywells3874 ah, well that's his DR200SE it's on... but yeah, you could definitely do the same thing with the Roswheel bag: www.walmart.com/ip/ROSWHEEL-3-in-1-Multifunction-Road-MTB-Mountain-Bike-Bag-Bicycle-Pannier-Rear-Seat-Trunk-Bag/800465134
Wasnt there a rear piece of the front fender?
There is a lower front fender. When I put on the 3.0x21 IRC TR8 Battle Rally tire, not enough clearance, so I took it off. I notice no difference to tell you the truth and I think I'm going to do the mod where you make that lower rear fender the back part of of the upper fender -- making the front fender more like a regular dirt bike high front fender.
Excellent! Do you have a part number for the Zeta front sprocket cover? Not seeing it anywhere.
ZE80-9606 I found that on webike japan back in the day. There are less expensive alternatives now - search eBay and Amazon for “xt250 front sprocket guard” - you’ll find some.
6 yrs later I'm glad to see the XT250 axing was just a rumor!
It’s gone for the Asian market since 2020 & now the WR250R is discontinued worldwide - it’s going to be interesting to see what Yamaha does in the small dual sport segment.
Bought my lady a 2014 13,000 miles and i love the fact it feels like a scooter.
When, and why did you lose the (lower) front fender?
When I put on the 3.0 IRC TR8 Battle Rally front tire, because the spacing was so tight, I took it off. I really don’t notice a difference with how much mud gets kicked up. I just looked at a Yamaha TTR 230 front fender, I may go with that even though I have a replacement front fender.
@@XT250allday I think someone took a square piece of metal. Drilled 4 holes, and was able to raise the lower fender. I may try that. But, my stock tires still have a lot of life.
Yep, lots of people raise their lower front fender that way. I don’t think a lower front fender does much of anything. I didn’t notice any difference not having it on. Dirt bikes don’t have them.
I have 10,000 on mine recently. it is a 14 and the twin of yours. I like the D606's. The bike does not seem to have enough power to wear them out, so the cost seems fine.
Yep, I’m back on a D606 rear & the Pirelli MT21 front. Liking it.
Its kind of funny we want to be faster and harder riding through the woods, river, fields sorry to many miles away from the desert by 2k+ miles . I like it, but I cant justified the cost for this bike . When I can get a XR650L just 1,5000 dollors more
Your rubber boot is on upside down, the weep holes should be at the bottom.
If you're talking about the rubber boots on the front forks, they have holes both top and bottom. If you're talking about something else, let me know. Thanks!
Oh I did not notice any holes on the bottom. I restored a CT90 last winter, the origanal boots did not have any weep holes and water collected and over time the moisture pitted the fork rams beyound repair. The Honda replacment boots have the weep holes. TU for getting back to me.
I am a new owner of a 2024 Yamaha XT250 and very happy.
Really like the tires. What are they?
The popular Pirelli MT21 front & Dunlop 606 rear combo.
@@XT250alldayWhat size? I was told not to oversize the rear. Some say the D606 are heavy to begin with.
@@bellyacre1 120/90-18. A bit oversized but works great. I like it way more than the stock trail wing & the Tusk Dsport I tried. This is my second D606.
@@XT250allday You don't notice a difference in power?
@@bellyacre1 nope, but I did notice a huge difference when riding in mud vs the stock trail wings. Max speed on tarmac didn't suffer.
Holy crap dude your 1 off vid was perfect!! Close to gettin a beater XT in the states and another one in Thailand when I get back & this channel is def required viewing!
Oh and also how many miles does it take before you do the oil change?
3500 miles or every 6 months
Can I have some questions? What's the comfortable mph does this bike can go, were it won't hurt the engine Or damage it by going to 372miles per day. Everyday for a whole one month.
55 - 60 mph is very comfortable… and could do it all day, every day, no problem.
@@XT250alldayreally?!! man this bike is really cool since I'm 5'6 this is like a perfect fit for me thanks for answering man
@@betakill3903 the tw 200 is a notoriously reliable bike. Just a bit smaller motor than this one but the seat hight is a bit lower as well. A very good bike but the speed would be a bit lower then the XT250
So jealous of the area you have to ride in. I live in Wisconsin and the bluffs are beautiful here but nothing around here touches anything close to what you have!
Utah is a pretty amazing state with LOTS of public land (BLM, National Forest & State lands) to enjoy. Literally 70% of the land in Utah is public. And it's super diverse from the Wasatch Mountains like on this ride to the red rock goodness in Southern Utah. Come out and ride!
Love my 2008 XT250. It had set up for a couple of years and I had to do some carb work when I first got it. It had a slight dead spot on tip in after getting it running but after seeing the air filter had been replaced with a K&N I ordered a new Yamaha replacement and it cured the hesitation. I now have a good bike that has only 4100 miles on it. I have been riding big street bikes for 50 years and this bike is my absolute favorite. It’s so easy to manage and it will go anywhere you want if you can handle it. Gonna put some more different tires for a smoother and safer street ride as I have to ride pretty far to get to the trails I ride on. Other than that it’s perfect for me and if I drop it I can pick it up without no problem. It’s a keeper.
Love this engine. We have one at the shop now, 48k miles, still running great
That’s great to hear. Mine’s still a youngster! 👍🏼
Could you put links or part list/numbers for all the add on items? I’m having trouble finding some of the items you liked.
All of them? Wowza. How about you tell me which ones you can't find and I'll post those.
Have you cleaned your spark arrester?
yes - yet another thing I forgot.
What year is your bike?
‘14
Your chain appears to be bad, check it before it breaks.
Been replaced along with both sprockets now. 👍🏼 Went with an X-Ring chain.
THIS FELLOW IS NO PRO,BUT THIS IS AS GOOD A VIDEO AS YOULL FIND ANYWHERE ON A SPECIFIC BIKE ,HE TELLS THE TRUTH LIKE IT IS ,AND DOESNT PULL ANY PUNCHES..GREAT REVIEW GUY
Thanks Dan. It's down and dirty on XT250 All Day.
Love the pictures. I too enjoy doing longer loops in the local canyons on My 2007 DR200se that's set up as a mini ADV bike , complete with Ricochet engine guard, Slipstreamer fairing & a Givi hard case on the rear rack. It came with a nice sounding DG muffler , but I prefer a quieter stock one. Being Stealthy gets me closer to wild critters along the backroads without spooking them, like Deer & Cow who'll sometimes run at you. What tires do you prefer? I'm gonna try some IRC GP-1 tires.RIDE ON BROTHER !
Right now l’m running an IRC TR8 Battle Rally front & the Tusk DSport rear … but I’m about ready for a new set & I’m undecided, maybe Kenda Trackmasters, Michelin AC10s or the popular Pirelli MT21 & Michelin D606 combo. 🤷🏻♂️ BTW, the wife is putting around on a ‘13 DR200se - fun moto.
7 minutes into this video and I can't take anymore. Christ almighty.
Sorry to hear that - it’s down & dirty on XT250 All Day. One take, only take, no editing - it is what it is. Got any specific questions about the XT250? Be happy to drill in if you do.
I really enjoy your videos. Haven't seen a new one in a while. I hope you're doing well and are able to get out and ride.
Hi Jorge - thanks! Yeah, last year was not a good one for me as far as being able to go riding ... it was the least I've ridden since getting my XT250! Shoulder surgery, moved homes, Dad passed away - way too much going on in my my life. Soooo, this year, looking forward to much more riding and doing some videos again. I have a new rear sprocket and chain to put on, as well as a new front fender and I'm really looking forward to getting those done and riding some miles. Thanks again.

@@jorgeAK73 Very much appreciated Jorge. "I'm no moto vlogger" - that's for sure! I'll get some videos out this year again. Will probably be about desert riding because the mountains around me are PACKED with the highest show levels ever! Might be July before the single tracks are rideable.
