XT250 - DRC Edge2 rear tail light

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Installed the DRC EDGE2 LED tail light after five years of not liking the goofy looking stock tail light.

I knew I’d get around to this mod someday. So much better looking.

    Your tail light looks great. A lot better than the ugly factory light. If you want to shed some more weight, switch out your exhaust for a FMF pipe. The factory exhaust is surprisingly heavy.

    Nice looking light. How difficult was the original to disconnect the wiring and connect the new to the wiring?

    Very straight forward to remove the original tail light assembly. I looked at the parts diagram ... basically two bolts connecting it to the fender. Getting at those bolts was the most difficult part of the process. Three wires (running, brake, ground), so very straight forward making the connection. They give you plenty of wire on the DRC Edge2 light, I trimmed a bunch off and used the supplied connectors to plug right into the connection used by the original tail light assembly. Pretty easy job.

    Thanks for sharing. I have 2010 XT250. I just bought the DRC Edge tail light and the same turn signals. May be a dumb questions but I took the old one off and found a Black, Yellow and Blue wire. the DRC Edge tail light has a Black , Yellow, and Red. do I match the Red wire with the Blue wire? I don't have much experience with LED light and just want to be sure. Also I noticed the edge 586 turn signals only have 2 wires. can you tell me how they wire to the XT250?

    The rear turn signals on the XT250 are a two wire light ... they only blink and are not a running light like the front turn signals. On you're rear tail wiring, I'm not sure ... I can't remember if that was the case with mine ... did you figure it out?

    Looks like you're getting better at the video editing though. You pasted three clips together. The tail lights look way better.

    The weight of the stock tail light assembly ... a few pounds for sure! There's a metal piece that's part of it. The DRC Edge2 light is much, much, much lighter.

    It looks a million times better. I don't understand what the Japanese companies have against LEDs. Instead of deleting the XT from the lineup, Yamaha should update it and make it more competitive.

    Mac Neoh yep, sad to see it go. Will be interesting to see what Yamaha does in the dual sport space. Put me down for a lightweight, air cooled, EFI, six speed, adjustable suspension, not too tall 450 dual sport with long maintenance intervals. That would be a Yamaha to have.

    My DRC Edge tail light came in today. Not quite sure what you mean by L brackets.

  • @XT250allday

    @XT250allday

    OK, so, you know the square piece on the rear fender which the stock tail light assembly attaches to? I made a straight bracket that attached to it and matched it up to the mounting posts of the Edge tail light ... but that leaves a gap between my Edge tail light and the square piece of the fender. But, if you used a bracket shaped like a L and attached that to the SIDE of the square fender piece, one for each side, and matched it up with the mounting posts on the Edge tail light, the tail light could be mounted flush against the square piece without a gap between the back of the tail light and the square plastic on the fender.

    They’re inexpensive flush-mounts from i5 Motorcycle … but are wider than the side wall of the rear fender, so not a perfect fit. But I had a broken rear turn & wanted to ride so threw them on thinking I’d find a more narrow option & replace them. Three years later, still using them. 😂 halogen, nice, bright blink. Price is right. Fit is not. They have a few styles: www.amazon.com/dp/B013MFGZ6C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_BP8JR6M2PQE0BEWWHQ8R?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/dp/B013MFLI00/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_W6BCG8ZJB2GQS4J1M9G3 www.amazon.com/dp/B013MFU5OK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_01ZCE46CZ2CTW6CZBJS7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/dp/B00XQEWOX8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3365PH55HXQWVKCN0MX0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
