one can buy the dpa 4017 capsule first around $1450 then buy the dpa c ($395) and DPA Microphones MMP-B Preamplifier amps($615) later to complete the set and have 2 different options . they do not have to buy the dpa 4017b (dpa 4017 capsule +DPA Microphones MMP-B Preamplifier ) at full price options for those who may feel $2000 at one time is too much

Yeah I've seen so much stuff where yah just throw it on the network... most of this Audio stuff has no security and really should be on its own isolated production network separate from your guest separate from your office, a whole subnet just for A/V stuff.

49:50 this is interesting watching in 2022. This is right after the great Apple commercial debate. Where they smashed a bunch of stuff supposedly digitally. But Japan is not happy because they believe that objects can develop a soul and that's not a very fitting way to end their life. So having them come back to roost is an interesting concept.

33:00 yeah Greeking I don't get it I mean I get it but I don't get it do you have a product that has a design patent! It's obvious what it is why even bother Greeking it. It's like seen an Apple Computer oh that must be an HP because it's got a big giant HP logo across the front nope. But you'll never see a bad guy use an apple....

OK I'll feel annoyed if I don't chime in on the lightning USB-C debate. I know a lot of folks who have iPhones that have their ports getting clogged up with debris and lint. I know one person who has a lightning port that won't hold the cable in anymore. Like micro USB the connector manufacturer makes a big difference in quality and the design of USB-C is so much more robust than micro but it still depends on the quality of the connector chosen. And I know that lightning ports can get damaged which is why the repair ability on iPhones is really critical and the connector should be on a daughter board. Also anything that is iPhone compatible has to be certified which means Apple not only get you on the App Store if you're a developer they get you on the accessories market for every connector. It was a stopgap connector but it's still very much a favorable for them because they get commission. Meanwhile their computers are using the USB-C connector and they were shipping iPhones with lightning headphones which were incompatible with their MacBooks. I watched a kid try to plug a set in and while the slats looked similar they didn't fit.

Oh so many good questions 30:00 I have a HDMI splitter that I can drop at the projector or laptop and that goes to a HDMI to CAT5 converter which then goes to a USB capture card with those cheap $15 ones. this brings presentation laptop video in to OBS for me getting a direct screen capture of whatever laptop is presenting. Only downside is when somebody is using a laser pointer. Alternatively I can swap the converter and splitter around if the laptop is going to be near where I'm streaming from and send off to a projector. However if I had the money an NDI converter would be awesome. Failing that if you just need to capture the easiest way is an HDMI splitter and some sort of device to record HDMI otherwise you're looking at software on the computer. Or just ask the presenter to send you the slides after, although they get a little picky with that so be careful. an alternative would be exported stills or PDF, PDFs are harder to work with stills will go right into an editing program.

25:00 As far as iOS goes as long as you have an audio interface that can input and output at the same time you can monitor audio if the app supports it. There's even some USB microphones now with headphone outputs. You might be able to use a USB "hub" I have not tested this, iOS is a little weird with how it selects input an output and it usually picks one unless it's input only. The built-in camera app does not support audio monitoring unless they've added that in one of the newer versions I am on a 13 mini. instead I use the Kinomatic camera app which has a lot of useful functions among audio monitoring.

hahahhahaha oh my gosh redundancy taken down by a KVM switch it's always that way. This is something I do on all of my systems which is really easy with Mac you turn on Screen Sharing a.k.a. VNC and I use tight VNC on windows. This allows remote manipulation over the local network of the presentation system or any system without necessarily having to get on stage. Very useful for the oh no I exited presentation mode out of PowerPoint or Keynote and I don't know how to get back or I switch to a different space, I lost what slide I was on, etc. there's a lot of quick things that can be easily remedied quicker than walking across the room. Do be aware that if you're running full motion graphics and video that tends to bog down the remote connection and the system has to process and send it so learn how to close out and reopen connections quickly. Really easy on Mac command key opens the connection dialogue even save a bunch although the new Screen Sharing app has some nice features to and then I use Remoter also. on Windows I am using a combination of client that's included with the above and then there's VNC if you were from Real VNC. They have a history but you can also save out a VNC file which makes a double click open and something that can be synced around to different computers.

Wow. Thanks for sharing about the event. I do a live streamed event for about 100-ish people in person and I'm wearing every one of those hats. And not making nearly enough. Meanwhile the guy is freaking out that he's built his entire business over me and if I get sick or forbid get hit by a beer truck... Well that would be no problem if you were to pay the industry rates just a guess. I have one person who helps me set up and then I have one person who handles switching and I monitor everything and do Sound. We're doing 3 to 4 cameras and a few of these once a month things have had three different speakers. And two years ago I was so sick I couldn't set up the backdrop but that sure went on! I did as much as I could went home and got there early the next day and brought my dad. Super lightheaded and nauseous every time I bend over made for setting things up really interesting I got cables in place and roughly set up the table and other things and went home thankfully 10 minutes away. The worst part is this guy wants Apple Keynote ted talks quality perfection every time. With 2 1/2 people. And lights he bought off eBay that are meant to be mounted to a vehicle (yeah I was actually looking for better lights we started with those cheap streamer camera lights that plug into a USB port, I was looking for more official better ones and came in and was notified oh I already bought some............. Oh You Did?! ).

Some important misinformation in this video; firstly the receivers output mic level only and have noticeable self-noise regardless of which mic you put through it - signal to noise ratio of about 60db. Secondly; the Sony’s don’t have reversed polarity they’re wired differently. Most transmitters use separate pins for mic or line level input - on the Sony this is the same pin but the circuit is switchable between mic or line level - the difference with the Sony’s is that they run power on the third pin instead - Sennheisers etc run power and signal on the same pin - and any 2 wire mic needs to be bridged with the correct resistor in order to work with the Sony’s

I'd just like to mention that the Schoeps CMC641 supercardiod has a flat frequency response in the 5-8kHz range Curtis refers to. Indeed, there's a very slight dip. It may well capture sibilance in someone's voice, but it isn't contributing to it. A sound mixer on Jeff Wexler's forum once wrote "Shoeps, particularly with thin female voices, would record the sibilance so well that my ears would explode by the end of the day and my dubbing mixers would be using de-essers."

thanks for the video! such a great resource of useful information! i just got myself a uses Mixpre 6-II after having used a Mixpre-10 on some occasions. But I ran into the following problem and wondered, whether someone has a solution to that: I prefer having my knobs as gain-trim rather than fade. (I basically work on a lot of "run-and-gun"-documentary stuff and in post-production I just work with the individual ISO tracks and not the L/R-mix. So thats why I operate the Mixpre in custom mode. BUT: then the limiters are not available - as they are only available in advanced mode. So my question would be: is there are way to both have the knobs as gain-trim AND make use of the limiters? Would be very happy, if anyone here has any thoughts on that. Best, K

For 34:43 : The zoom capsule attachments take up input 1 and 2, so you will not gain two extra inputs. Interesting to note that on the F8n and F8nPro the capsule connector is horizontal, on the F8 it is vertical. I think it is a nice change, you can have stereo ambience with ehe XYH6 attachment if recorder is mounted under the camera for example.

  • @ww1www

I came to learn a bit more on how gain is handled by my F8n Pro, and I just understand now how my Tascam X8, which I have been using for a year and a half at least, works :) There you would also have gain setting (unlike in the F2 and F3), even more, you can manually select whether you want the low or the high preamp to work. I have experimented with the two preamps and they sound a bit different, especially at the overlapping fringes of their respective ranges. I believe that affects linenout and headphone and when you are recording in 24 or 16 bit. The F2 and F3 only works in 32bit, I assume this is why they can work diffferently.

Superb. Thanks for sharing. I think controlling the line out volume via the app is possible from what I could see on your video. There was a control slider button (set at the +6db position approximately 3/4 to the right). You clicked around it but not on it as you did when controlling the headphone volume. I paid particular attention to this part of the video as this was the one feature I was keen to see if it had 17:25
