    Two things. First, I bought the F6 and freaking love it. Up until this point I've been using either the Zoom H4N or recording directly into the camera (BMPCC4K, GH5S). I notice a substantial increase in overall quality with the F6. Second, I enrolled in this course...haven't finished it yet, but so much good knowledge. I love how you explain things Curtis, there's no BS, no fluff, no "look at me I'm a youtuber!!!"....you just tell us what we're here for and you do it professionally.

    I've been wanting to get the F6 for some time, especially after seeing your review on it. Now that you're offering a course on how to use it, I'm even more inspired. Thanks, Curtis.

    Thanks Todd. One thing which I discovered after the review is that the F6 does have issues providing a clean feed of audio to consumer cameras with 3.5mm mic inputs (unless like the Panasonic GH5S, they also support line level). So that is one thing to beware of it you were considering the F6. That is a case where the MixPre is better off.

    Your content is fantastic! I've been watching for a long time and have gotten a lot from your videos. I've never bought a KZreadrs course before because there is usually so much free information online. I bought this course just now, partly because i'm sure it will be helpful and partly just to say thank you for all the free content you put online. All the best..

    @@LearnLightAndSoundSessions I had a similar reaction when I just now went to sign up for one of your courses. A couple of days ago I purchased a RodeCaster Pro after doing a lot of research including listening to your comments/updates/posts about it. In fact you were the deciding voice that triggered me purchasing it. So I went looking for your paid course on it........ I couldn't find it so if it exists please share the link (and if it doesn't please nudge me again when you make it) - Thanks again for all your help! ~Jamie N

    I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I need a field recorder, but this one would be in strong consideration if I go that way. I have taken one of Curtis' audio courses and highly recommend any of his courses for those seeking well presented knowledge, aimed toward practical application.

    Very Nice course, I'm an experienced audio guy and I got some things out of it, but even more I like to support the authors efforts. I'm hopeful that Zoom will come up with a fix for mismatched line out with dslr and mirror less cameras that only have a mic level in. Perhaps a Sacom attenuation cable would help but not sure how much it would color the audio Also two other things I'm disappointed in that the audio interface for the ios and stereo record is only 16 bit audio. Yet the multichannel is 24 bit so I am not sure why they limited it to 16 bit, when i record to my Ipad I like 24 bit audio. Keep up the good work.

    Hi Curtis, I'm looking forward to your course! One question, though: I'm used to working with wireless transmitters on my boom (MKH416 with Rode RODELink Newsshooter Kit) and lavs on talents (Sennheiser AVX). When using these wireless systems with the F6, is 32-bit float recording usefull?

  • @curtisjudd

    @curtisjudd

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Hans, the wireless system will impose the dynamic range limit in your signal chain. That's not a deal-breaker, from my point of view, but technically, they won't be putting the possible range of the F6 to use. Still, the F6 is a pretty good recorder. 😀

    I just recently purchased a zoom F6, despite a bad experience years ago with their H4. I'm pleased with the 32bit recording & getting used to being "OK" to have peaks at +3 dBFS, but DaVinci Resolve Studio does not like 32 bit float files, esp if they exceed 0 dBFS. What's the best workflow to take wide dynamic range 32bit into Resolve?

  • @curtisjudd

    @curtisjudd

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi ef basham, the latest version of Resolve handles 32-bit float audio clips and processes them correctly. You can simply pull down the levels to recover any 0dBFS overruns. The only thing it does not do yet is correctly draw the waveforms for 32-bit float clips. I have to imagine that's coming soon. The following DAWs will handle 32-bit float: Audacity, Audition, Pro Tools, and likely some of the other music oriented DAWs. Logic Pro X does not support 32-bit float. Best wishes!

    Hi Curtis, i bought the f6 course. You saved me! Now, here is something that just can’t understand... I have the Beringher Xair 18 which is a digital mixer with 6 Aux Sends (6 bus). I created mixes for each Aux sends and wanted to connect each XAir Aux Sends to one of the 6 f6 inputs so i could have 32 bit float multitrack. While it does work, the noise floor is unusable even if everything muted. The simple fact of connecting aux sends to the zoom f6 creates noise. What am i doing wrong?

  • @curtisjudd

    @curtisjudd

    Hi Megapixelers, I assume you changed each input on the F6 to line level?

  • @Megapixelers

    @@curtisjudd Hi Curtis, Yes I did. Is it expected that AUX Sends will be less clean than Main Out's?

  • @LearnLightAndSoundSessions

    @LearnLightAndSoundSessions

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Megapixelers I don't have any first-hand experience with the X-Air mixers to know that. I guess I'd work through the signal chain to figure out where the noise is contributed. So I suppose swap in another recorder to the X-Air outputs and see if it is still noisy? Swap out cables - though if all 6 are noisy, this is likely not the case. Etc.

    I am eyeing to purchase one. Has the line out noise issue already been solved by the company mr. Judd?

  • @curtisjudd

    @curtisjudd

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Dimas, Randy Patria, no, the line out issue is not solved, even with the v1.50 firmware. I am not sure it can be solved with a Firmware update, but I have reported it recently to Zoom and sent sample files for their evaluation. In the meantime, it is not ideal, but one can use the headphone output to feed audio to cameras with 3.5mm microphone inputs. And for cameras which have the ability to switch their input to line level, the F6's line output works fine (e.g., Panasonic GH5S). Best wishes!

    Pardon me@@curtisjudd. But I don't quite get it. So, I should lower my audio record level on my a6400 to match the line out level with the lower microphone level to be able to use the f6's line out? And since my a6400 doesn't have a headphone jack, I am hoping to use both output for monitoring and as a backup recorder/sync guide. The line out noise issue will be my deciding factor between Zoom F6 and Tascam Dr-701d. Thanks a lot anyway.
