Wouldn't you reload torpedoes?
Totally agree on draw until you get purple keep what you get. With a minimum draw of 2 so you're never stuck with 1. Game should come with black cubes for artillery and grey cubes for German soldiers. Suppress u could change to a different color cube not used in the game. My other knock is the officer. In mobilization he's basically 1 option. The next 3 phases is basically morale and forget. Forcing a meeple to the same spot is silly. To me the officer should be able to go to any spot, because they're so important to any battlefield. Which would lead me to a morale penalty for the officer being in the hospital. I'm noticing that Kickstarter games have the same complaint, rule books and I don't disagree. Way too many are terrible. Why do game designer give it so little attention? It can really ruin a review and enjoyment of the game which gives a bad word of mouth. Taking a great game and giving it very little positive word of mouth. Clearly this game needs some house rules which is unfortunate, but won't stop me from getting this game. I'm buying because I love the flow and mechanics (even if some mechanics need improvement) of the game and completely agree with the positives you gave. Given the issues/improvements this needs a 2nd edition, err update, since the game isn't in the stores yet. ;)
Looks great, can't wait to get a copy. Too bad the game isn't avail in stores yet, since it stated it would be out in Apr-Jun of this year. Never saw what the snow cards being played. Are they worth it?
I actually love the style, very old-school and clear. Actually, it's quite aesthetical, much more so than many other wargames with acid colors.

Excellent walk through. I just purchased the game so love watching these videos to help with rules. Nothing worse than interpreting a rule wrong, and then realizing it later on. I'd like to have seen you go through the tally sheet since every game is a campaign. Other than that thanks for the video.

It LOOKS great. Super thematic, with the immersive images and styling to the rulebook and player aids, which really pops and is great in a Pacific game. Great counters too. However, I'm going to hold off until I see a Playthrough. Midway Solitaire wasn't so good. Hopefully this is better.

The original magazine game was TERRIBLE, I really hope they cleaned the mess up for the boxed release.
I can already see a massive improvement over the mag game. No final thoughts yet though.

Wayne; did you play the campaign? A friend who playtested early said the terrain was so ugly that the Union couldn't get there. Maybe they changed the map or movement?
John, I don't believe there is a campaign. There are a bunch of scenarios (6?) but I don't recall any sort of campaign linking them all together. So I suppose the answer to your question is no, I didn't play a campaign :)

This series, the Blind Swords Series, and the Shattered Union Series are the ACW series I follow. I'm an audiobook person, but I love the book add in to the vid. I'll have to see if there is an audiobook of it. The simplicity of this game series makes it so accessible to new players. I view that as a major strength of this series.
Counters look poorly cut.

@@WayneHansen 4:50 Do those counters look cut correctly to you? They look decidedly off-center to me. (losing the C in Chalmer and the J in Jackson)

Yep, they look just fine. The leader names are certainly at the edge of the counter, but nothing is lost like you say, and you can see the artwork and numbers are centered. The counters are spot on 👍

I've tossed around the idea of having some sort of master sheet that showed each brigades starting strength point with numbered boxes you could check off as they suffered losses. Haven't tried it yet because I'm not sure I like the idea of having to find the brigade on the sheet each time they're in combat. But for people that don't mind some paperwork, it might be a solution to the fiddliness of the SP counters.
Not a bad idea Jason, something worth trying at least.
A really fun system, but a bit too simplistic for me (which is why I prefer Revolution’s Blind Sword series).
I get it Steve, you know I love Blind Swords. I'm starting to like this CWBBS system the more I play it as a good alternative when looking for a much simpler game. Or, to be honest, if I wanted to teach a hex and counter game to someone new to them.
@@WayneHansen Good point, Worthington’s series would be ideal for an introductory wargame for those interested.

Much, much appreciated though! 👍 This looks like, and maybe I'm remembering from your unboxing vid; but I think I may have also read that this game and possibly the next game in this series, were going to be designed as smaller, quicker games? If you're like me and intending to follow the series, it's nice to have smaller battles to choose from, along with the bigger Gettysburg kind of battles. Sometimes you only have the time for a shorter game, and having that as a choice is nice. Great play example video! I need to make shorter comments too! Sorry so long here again, but I like this series and the videos you're doing.
This one does play quicker than some of the other games, primarily as the map is smaller and there are fewer units on the map. Which is appreciated, as if you're anything like me, sometimes a faster playing game is exactly what I want. I also appreciate the kind words about my videos! You guys keep watching, and I'll keep making them. And keep the comments coming!

Hey Drew. You know I played it a little bit, but it just didn't click with me. It felt a little dry. I don't want to say it's not a good game however, I just didn't give it enough time to form an educated opinion on it.

Great preview video Wayne. Franklin is a great place to visit and I got to see it last year and have been looking forward to this game. A great addition to the historical battles of the Civil war and looks like a nice solo game. If Worthington keeps going with Nashville that would be a great addition to finish the campaign. It’s pretty one-sided but I do like the history.

Wayne, thank you for a great overview of the game and review. This was detailed and concise and gave me the information I required to make a decision about buying the game. And especially, for providing us with the information to get the "better" version of the rules. @26:46 I see you moved your units back after an assault. I am pretty sure units only move back after an assault if over a wall and not all the units were eliminated. They would remain in that space. This rule of moving back also only applies to the Roman player so the Judean's never move back. I believe you made this mistake more than once.
I believe I misspoke and meant to say Attack and not Assault (since those Judean light units are able to conduct Attacks into adjacent Areas), but regardless, if I said Assault, then you're right, the Judeans don't have to Retreat after the Combat. As always, follow the rules as written, and if someone makes a mistake while filming a YT video, that's what it is, a mistake. Unfortunately for people like me, I'm brave enough to put my mistakes out there for the world to see, whereas no one else will ever see your mistakes :)

Why did the IJN TF retreat from the Aleutions at ~52min mark? 6.1.7 rules only cover if each side has a TF in the same space - is that supposed to also apply for a TF & CD unit? Maybe I missed a rule somewhere...

With the help of your videos, and BGG errata listing, I was able to P-touch the proper values on the disrupted/shaken counters. Also able to P-touch "dismounted cavalry" on the backs of the cav counters, and lastly also to P-touch all the corrections onto the player aid card. Whew, a bit of work but well worth it! Great vids and thanks for the heads up on all the errata! 🍻

I was hoping with this one being reprinted that the solitaire expansion would also be reprinted, but no such luck (yet). If it does get reprinted, I plan to pick it up.
