Verdict! Stuka Leader (Overview & Review)

The verdict is in! This is an overview and review of the solitaire wargame Stuka Leader: The WW2 European Theater Solitaire Game. Designed by Chuck Seegert and published by Dan Verssen Games (DVG).
Stuka Leader is based on Corsair Leader and Zero Leader, expanding gameplay from the previous games. You are in command of a German aerial squadron in Europe in World War Two, with aircraft including the Messerschmitt Me 109 and Me 262, Heinkel He 111, Focke-Wulf Fw 190, and the eponymous Junkers Ju 87 Stuka.
You will need to select the right mix of pilots and aircraft under your command in order to carry out the different types of missions. Each aircraft has its advantages and disadvantages.
This game also expands additional aspects of German operations such as fuel barrels, wounds, and bail outs. There is also a new campaign sheet and tactical display, which will present a different feel to the well-established Leader gameplay.

Excellent overview. I have tried to explain the Campaign sheet ooops, but sadly, it is still there. I have corrected the mechanism that creates that SO number, so if it is wrong now................. ;-) You are 100% correct!! I did not mention the Minor / Major Hit counters in the setup at all. Totally my bad and the first I have heard of it!! It will be corrected! Two last things.... You did not mention the Bogey / Bandit mechanism which I think is a HUGE addition to the game, but what do I know, right? ;-) Lastly... The rulebook is a constant pain in my backside. I am wide open to help if you wish to offer? I am in the editing stage of Mustang Leader rules and would love to talk about it, if you are interested!

Thanks for swinging by, Chuck. I did like the Bogey/Bandit system. Overall, well done with the game. I'm definitely looking forward to your next one and seeing what you do with it!

I didn't get Stuka but I agree that the bogey/bandit mechanism is a big addition. So much so that I've tinkered with implementing it with Corsair and Zero, and I've mentioned elsewhere that I would totally be interested in purchasing an upgrade kit of some sort for those two if it was made available. I also really like the minor/major hit addition to the gameplay. Definitely looking forward to the Mustang Kickstarter!

@@jasonstapley1265 I agree with the bogey/bandit feature. It's a much better game along with the minor and major damage feature. They seem easy enough to implement into Corsair and Zero.

Good video series on this game. The playthrough was especially interesting. I would be interested if you did a series on Storm of Steel to get your thoughts on how it compares to this one. I can’t spread my limited game dollars over two Stuka games!

Thanks as always Bruce. Unfortunately, I won't be covering Storm of Steel. I stopped covering Compass Games titles a couple years back after hearing some dishonest accusations and personal insults directed towards me from the owner of Compass. But I will be covering the new Stuka game from Lock n Load once it ships.

Accurate overview. My other "con" would be no linked campaigns, althougn they could easily be house ruled in. Despite the cons, the game is fun and worth it.

Tell me more about those cardholders you have for your planes! Where do they come from?

They were actually 3D printed by a friend, but DVG has started selling them, or something very similar. You can try Googling "DVG Leader card tray" or search "air Leader compatible tray" on Etsy.

Get Zero Leader, then if you love it, pick up Stuka Leader. You're welcome.

Although Zero Leader is a solid game, I would go with Stuka Leader because of the Minor and Major damage to aircraft and the Bogey/No Bogey rules. These add another level of unpredictability and fun factor to Stuka Leader.
