Let's Play! Spruance Leader - Campaign Setup
This is the first in a series of videos showing a playthrough of the latest game in the Leader series, Spruance Leader. Designed by Dean Brown (previous design B-17 Flying Fortress Leader) and published by DVG. In this first video, I select a campaign and show how to conduct setup, purchase ships, etc.
Spruance Leader focuses on commanding and managing a US Navy Carrier Battle Group in the Cold War setting of the 80s and 90s, simulating major naval conflicts in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Carrier battle groups, comprising aircraft carriers and their escorting ships, must be protected from the devastating attacks of missiles, torpedoes, bombs, and enemy vessels. Attack submarines which threaten the carrier battle groups have to be hunted down and neutralized. Air assets must be carefully assigned to combat air patrols, long-range strategic missions and attack strikes. You will need to manage the right combination of seaborne and airborne resources under your command in order to complete the various types of missions and lead your group to victory.
Other Leader games I have covered on my channel include Zero Leader, Hornet Leader, Corsair Leader, and others.

I just finished re-reading Red Storm Rising (10th time? 15th?)...and I see FF-1094. I see what you did there!
Excellent!! Looking forward to your continued coverage, thanks.
Thank you for the video! I've played a few of the Leader series, but this one is the most complex of them all. Plus I'm not very familiar with naval combat as a whole, so this (and the Wolfpack mission video) were extremely helpful. Liked and subscribed.

Glad it was helpful Eric! It's an excellent game and deserves more attention.
I’m not sure if you did it yes for informational purposes but I believe the A,B and C counters Are the last thing placed before starting the movement of your task force. That way you really don’t know where they will be when you purchase your ordinance. Great video.

You are correct, although I'm not sure it matters. It's not like you know what the enemy TFs will be, so it shouldn't impact what ordinance you purchase. The campaign type and chosen Target will be 90% of your focus.
Looking forward to the full series, Wayne. I'm on mission 2 of an all-Australian TF in the Pacific. By the way, your engagement board is different than mine. My charts at the top right are much darker and harder to read. I wonder if mine is a misprint.

It appears lighter on camera than in person.

@@WayneHansen Indeed, I just noticed that a photo I posted on CSW looked like your board.
Funny is I wondered why they were focusing on the Admiral :) Didn't realize it was a ship type named after him hehe

I've spent a bunch of time researching things from the game. I always love researching and learning new bits of history.
