Recon! Prelude to Vicksburg: Chickasaw Bayou, December 26-29, 1862

This is an unboxing of the two-player, but solitaire friendly thanks to chit-pull, hex and counter wargame Prelude to Vicksburg: Chickasaw Bayou, December 26-29 1862. Designed by Stephen Oliver and published by Revolution Games. Prelude to Vicksburg is the 9th Volume in the American Civil War series of games using the Blind Swords system.
The Battle of Chickasaw Bayou was a grand missed opportunity for the Union Army in its desire to crush the Rebellion. If Union General Sherman had proceeded with haste, the Federals could have captured Vicksburg and delivered a master stroke against the Rebels seven months before Vicksburg surrendered on July 4, 1863. Historically, the Union took four days to launch their "Grand Assault", giving the Confederate defenders in their trenches ample time to receive much-needed reinforcements. Can you do better than Sherman?
The Prelude to Vicksburg game system is from Revolution Games' popular Blind Swords series that utilizes a chit-pull mechanic emphasizing the three "FOW's" of military conflict: Fog of War, Friction of War, and Fortunes of War.

Revolution games has been really rocking it out lately! Love the blind swords system. My desert storm flight seargent is a retired Columbus Ohio police officer. Mad respect for the profession.

Hi Wayne, thanks for the great video. A primary aspect of the battle that fascinated me was it took four days for the Union Army to launch their Grand Assault. The player can experiment with attempting to breach the trench line a day or two days earlier before significant Confederate casualties had arrived. Note that one of the internet maps, and readily available online, you displayed in your video shows incorrectly McNutt Lake between the Sand-spit (hex 2417) and the Corduroy Bridge (hex 3519), a clear misrepresentation. As you said, info on the battle is difficult to find, and in this case, inaccurate! Stephen Oliver

Excellent information, thank you for sharing, Stephen. It's unfortunate about the map! I hate to show inaccurate information. Thanks for letting us know, however.
