Let's Play! Franklin 1864 (Battle of Franklin Recap)

This is a playthrough of the Battle of Franklin scenario from the two player, hex and counter wargame Franklin November 29-30 1864. Designed by Grant, Mike, & Mark Wylie, and published by Old School Wargames/Worthington Publishing. This game is part of the Civil War Brigade Battle Series of wargames.
Franklin 1864 allows gamers to refight the historic battles of Spring Hill and Franklin, Tennessee in 1864, using the popular Civil War Brigade Battle Series of rules. Franklin 1864 is Volume V, following Antietam, Shiloh, The Seven Days Battles, and Gettysburg.
The Battle of Spring Hill was a trap laid by Confederate General Hood in his drive on Nashville, trying to trap part of the Army of the Ohio under Union General Schofield. The historic battle did not go as Hood hoped with the Union forces escaping to Franklin relatively unscathed.
The Battle of Franklin the following day, November 30, was a last ditch by Hood trying to catch the Union forces with their back to a river and the bridges damaged. A lack of time, artillery, and planning led to a vicious Confederate defeat with 14 Confederate generals killed and 55 regimental commanders. The battle was a close run affair for the amount of time involved a Union deployment mistake almost giving Hood the victory he so desparately sought.
Fight each battle separately or combine to refight the 2 days together in a linked mini-campaign.
Players will command either the Confederate or Union armies as they battle to destroy opposing forces and capture key terrain objectives to determine victory.

Great preview video Wayne. Franklin is a great place to visit and I got to see it last year and have been looking forward to this game. A great addition to the historical battles of the Civil war and looks like a nice solo game. If Worthington keeps going with Nashville that would be a great addition to finish the campaign. It’s pretty one-sided but I do like the history.

Thanks Joel. I'd love to go on a tour of the battlefield. Then again, I say that about a lot (all?) of the ACW battlefields!

I really like this game series, great vids too. Thanks for all the work in bringing these previews to all of us out here in the hobby! I'm sure it's a lot of work. Much, much appreciated though! 👍 This looks like, and maybe I'm remembering from your unboxing vid; but I think I may have also read that this game and possibly the next game in this series, were going to be designed as smaller, quicker games? If you're like me and intending to follow the series, it's nice to have smaller battles to choose from, along with the bigger Gettysburg kind of battles. Sometimes you only have the time for a shorter game, and having that as a choice is nice. Great play example video! I need to make shorter comments too! Sorry so long here again, but I like this series and the videos you're doing.

This one does play quicker than some of the other games, primarily as the map is smaller and there are fewer units on the map. Which is appreciated, as if you're anything like me, sometimes a faster playing game is exactly what I want. I also appreciate the kind words about my videos! You guys keep watching, and I'll keep making them. And keep the comments coming!
