The idea is to reveal different perspectives from different member states and at the same time reverse the roles of typical political debates. So here the politicians can sit in the audience, listen and ask questions to the voters.

Come on … You pit an average student against a guy that is a PhD Candidate in International Studies at Cambridge, former Senior Expert at NATO, former Policy Advisor at the European Parliament and recipient of the Has Fund Fellowship??? He is basically a spoke person for EU, of course he would agree with his employeers’ views.
The idea of the format is not to have a "winner" but to have a debate revealing different perspectives from different member states. Tomass is also criticizing the EU by demanding more investment in defence and more support for Ukraine. There is no homogeneous opinion on this in the EU. He’s not an MEP, also not a spokesperson for the EU.
As an American I find these debates between Europeans extremely interesting and educational. I wish we heard more of these kinds of views on American news.
