Why Slovenia saved so many more lives in its worst natural disaster I Done Differently
Slovenia got hit by lethal flash floods and pouring landslides in August, destroying hundreds of houses and flooding thousands more - but only six people died. How is that possible?!
In this new episode of “Done Differently”, we look at Slovenia’s “disaster subculture”, huge network of volunteer firefighters ready to save their communities, and how tight national coordination kicks in when there’s an emergency to handle - and investigate how that helped prevent deaths. With climate change fuelling ever more extreme weather events in Europe, disasters like this one will keep hitting Europe in the future - and worse. What can other countries do differently to save people as fast as possible when disaster hits?

Slovenian people are one from most clever in Europe. This country is just perfect organised in everything. Slovenia is paradise.🙂
First to say, I'm very impressed the way people, aproached the situation. Inbedded through school of certain awareness, is extreemly important. Next paralel to the first, is the upbringing and the social intensity of a community. Goverment wise, there responsibillity I think lies mainly, in monitoring and providing national service being prepaired. The last is technically, very solid. But the two other factors which inquire people, are in our country very poor(mentallity wise), unfortunally. Thank you for the awareness, how important unity, solidarity is by how to create and showing a trustworthy social netwerk!🙏👍👊❣
Only 2 people died in floods! 2 people dided in mountains due to severe storms and 2 in aftermath of floods!

Yes, we included the number of all those deaths which were related to the natural disaster and the aftermath of it.

And the 2 people from the mountains weren't even slovenian but dutch tourists hit by a lightning.
Too much forest was cut?? 60%of the country is covered in forest 😭😭 it doesn't make any sense

Bigger problem is building houses on areas known to be fluding or witha a risk of slides.
I'm from Ireland and am only hearing about Slovenia flooding now?! ... all we got wind of is a recent election of theirs.

You need to broaden your news search: The Guardian (UK online) and BBC covered this crisis. RTE rarely goes beyond Ireland/UK/US......

No counrtry is ideak or perfest it took slovenia years to repare damage after earthquake in posočje soča valley and it will tahe years to repare damage after this floud, but for most people life is back to normal buissnes.

@@andrejxyxy2020 i agree some villages were destroyed and country doesn't do a shi#, people have now to live in city or with freinds. So yea we lost some smaller villages (2 or 1).
