Growing up LGBTQIA+ in Orban's right-wing Hungary

Could Hungary leave the EU? Corruption, control of the media, anti-LGBTQIA+ policies... Over the past decade, Viktor Orbán's right-wing government and its 'systemic threat' to democracy have gained a reputation as one of Europe's troublemakers.
We met Ákos, 29, and Adam, 25. They told us about the impact of this authoritarian policy on their daily lives and the widening gap between the capital Budapest and the rest of the country.

I find it really strange, that you state European students can't come to Hungary. I studied at Corvinus University of Budapest (one of the biggest and best universities in Hungary) and that time, there was about 5% who got Erasmus grant. I received an Erasmus but it covered 1/3 of my costs in the UK. I was last year an an Alumni Meeting at Corvinus and I was really astonished, that almost half of the students are foreigners there. Many of them receives full scholarship and not for only one semester like it was possible as I was a student there. Beforehand there was no full scholarship at all. Now the university is full of European students.

I can only imagine their frustration. Living in the UK our electoral system is unrepresentative and this annoys me despite fact we're likely to remove our right-wing government next year.

Oh yes, this feeling is sadly a common one between the young Europeans we interviewed for this series. Would you like to tell us a bit more about what it's like to grow up in the UK?

@enentr alas I'm not so young anymore. Happy to share my view on growing up in the 90s but doubt that it will have much bearing on today's issues.

Hungarians are the most open nation I have lived in. They don't care who's holding hands in the street, if your not bothering a Hungarian directly "its not my problem they would say" . Viktor has my support in keeping the teaching of asking our "Kids" you want to gay its ok and teaching them unapproiate material. They have time for it when above 16 to decide if Gay or not. Let's not get into illegal immigration we can say this was a real success in Hungary. If your not sure spend week on the Serbian side of the border. I wish you all the best but no one is against only yourself.

If you think teachers have any time to waste with gay stuff at school, there's barely enough teachers, schools are understaffed, and it's a struggled to get to the end of the program and get students ready

You don't decide if you're gay or not, it just happens to you.

Hello, I really like your work ! But I think you should consider dubbing your videos. Personally I like to listen to videos without having to look at the screen, so that I can do something else while listening to it, but when ppl are speaking in a foreign language it is not possible... :(
