I did some research from the first two films of sadako’s father. The old man said Shizuko spoke a strange language at the sea to Ryuji and Reiko before they died then he brought Mai the student to a cave where Shizuko gave birth to Sadako. Obviously Shizuko was lured by the Ocean entity which is its name on the wiki impregnated her and when she went to the cave to give birth and let Sadako drown she came back with baby Sadako.

I like a lot of Homecoming and Downpour. I felt like their hearts were in the right place, so I gave them a lot of slack. And I liked the pull from Jacobs Ladder but the MC wasn't developed enough.

Awesome research, as always your videos bring us a fresh new perspective to these foreign games. At first, I thought that the botanical connections were maybe coincidence, but with how many times you were able to point those occurrences out over the course of this video, I think I believe this theory. The diamond crest/caltrop plant/black swamp connection, and the flower crest/princess tree/dolls/doll-making connection are too close for coincidence.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy it! There were a few more that I didn't bring up because it just didn't fit the pacing or it did feel coincidental, but I really feel like this is plausible. I wish we had more interviews to hear about the devs and the specific folklore and cultural stuff they pulled from; they seem to enjoy keeping that specific part of the game dev process secret.

Man, Japan is one of the few countries just full of culture and mythology.

  • @thegamingmuse
    @thegamingmuse13 сағат бұрын

Well, that's not really true - they just have a very large pop culture industry that's spread really far, compared to other similar cultures around the world. For instance, Thailand has some fantastic folklore and history and makes some great books/shows about it, but they're more cheaply made because the country is poorer, and their reach isn't as large. It's been getting better in recent years though.

All cultures have interesting lore if you peel away a few layers. If you look deeper into some traditions adapted after the Abrahamic or Buddhist traditions took over, you'll find a wealth of colorful beliefs and mythology. Kinda like trying to figure out what the Easter Bunny and colored eggs have to do with the Resurrection.

Great video. I've said this several times before but it deserves to be said again. Even though you have a real passion for Japanese Horror games, it clearly takes effort to do the research. In many of your other videos you take the time to show us the people who created the game and not just the game itself. The depth you go into gives so much extra context to the content of the games. The cultural differences between Western and Japanese gamemakers can often allow those contexts to be unappreciated. Fantastic work and a really dignified presentation. Although don't join your streams that often, you let your personality shine through. We can feel when you're having fun and also when you're having a bad day. It's nice to see the real you too.

Love this video, always have. In my opinion Valtiel is shown to have more dominion over the other world than Pyramid Head. Honestly since the other world in SH2 and SH3 have different fundamentals in the form they manifest I think the connection between Valtiel and Pyramid Head is less than "master and servant" because they serve completely different purposes

Surprised how thorough the imagery is here. Often times it feels like video essayists are reaching way too much when analyzing games, but here most things seem pretty thought out, cohesive and like intended by the game devs. Thanks for a great video! Really cool to see someone cover Homecoming this seriously. I always kinda liked Homecoming and this has given me more appreciation for it.

Base concept for the American made Silent Hills are decent but gods I still feel they needed some work another year in the oven but they felt like they were rushed out so hard with how glitchy they were and well still are. Wouldn't mind them getting another shot but judging by the fact Konami greenlit remaking 2 and not 1 shows they don't want to risk anything... Thoughhhh from the trailers of 2 remake it may be a bigger risk then they thought that's just my opinion though I'm hoping it ends up good.

This is a bit late, but I am led to believe the SH3 song, "I Want Love," is actually Claudia's point of view- if we examine Heather, Heather is never mentioned to have a boyfriend, she was loved deeply by Harry and her adoptive mother. Claudia, on the other hand, grew up endlessly abused, isolated, and lost her only friend, Alessa.

You say several times that Alex's belief that he's a soldier makes no sense. Why does he know how to fight so well then? Blocking, parrying, dodging, combos. He operates radios. How do you explain his familiarity with weapons? The other characters can't fight because they're inexperienced. Alex knows what he is doing. I'd argue the mental hospital line makes no sense, because Alex seems normal. He never displays any mental anguish except for his desire to catch up his brother, Josh.

(catching up on my watch later list so please forgive my late comments). I had been thinking that A Short Message reminded me so much of the comics and how the powers of Silent Hill operated outside of/extended beyond the town. And how it functioned in SH2 and Downpour. What would you call that force? Environmental antagonist?

Ah the cardboard pyramid head reminds me of when i made mine for a cosplay a few years ago. That was fun to do and make. I know I'm a month late but i know people complained about Angela's face being more rounded, to me it looks a bit swollen but i don't hate a rounder face. What brothers me is James's hair. Idk what it is about it but it doesn't blend well so it looks like he has bad highlights. More ashen blonde would work better for me. And yeah the combat animation is janky. Of all of the things they work on I hope that one is ironed out better.

I like this game much more than Origins and Shattered Memories. Haven't played Downpour so can't comment on that one. This one has some very good elements, story is not one of them for sure. Monsters design are well done.....that Scarlett boss still haunts my memories. All in all a good game and after Bloober ef up SH 2 KONAMI should just leave alone the Team Silent games and focus on new games and maybe a Remake of Homecoming etc.

MDZS will always be my first love, but when it comes to fanfic, SVSSS has so many cool angles to explore! In MDZS, we mostly deal with moral and justice angst, but in SVSSS, if it's not crack, a lot of my favorite fics tackle deep existential conflicts and really push how relationships can have organic development.

I’ve had the anime’s for a long time basically since mid 90s,. I’ve always loved the character D. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until I was older than I’ve discovered an appetite for reading this video has certainly pushed me want to engage with the books so I now have the Omnibus additions. I feel your pain with the collection though I have had similar things happen to me.

13:40-14:45:I really don't think you are addressing the game's introduction to the so-called Silent Hill Phenomenon like some trick of a damaged mind instead of a supernatural phenomenon as described in the older games. 21:40: Still, it didn't even have to be that dramatic. I watched the game's playthrough around 18(gonna turn 19 soon God willing) and I found it(no offense to people who avoided life withdrawal this way) cringe.

For whatever reason I find it so weird that Silent Hill wasn't as popular in Japan as in the West. If anything I would have assumed Resident Evil would have been way more popular in the West because it's a little more..."actiony"? Like it's got the military and cops and zombies all that junk Americans like. I would think Silent Hill would be more popular in Japan because it's more subtle, understated, and cerebral. Plus zombies are pretty cut and dry, while the horrors of Silent Hill take on some EXTREMELY dark subject matter. Huh, well, I shouldn't assume is the moral of this story I guess.
