    When my aunt died I would also forget that she had passed. I would have something happen and get excited to tell her about it, then suddenly remember I couldn't. I still have dreams where she'll be there, alive and healthy looking (she died from terminal lung cancer) and laugh that she was misdiagnosed. It's always really surreal.

    Despite several small flaws in presentation I would say this game has a clear and gripping emotional core that is both relevant and sincere. And some of the visuals are just gorgeous. I honestly cry every time I see that ending and hear the final song and I am 32 at this point, so I guess they must have done something really right.

    I personally only have minor nit-pics with this game, mostly with the spectral mom's voice acting. I really like how call-backs to previous games were worked in. (The witch desk from SH1, the amnesia from SH2, the hole from SH4, the transition to the red otherworld seems taken from Homecoming to me, and the case sequences from Downpour.) I also agree with Gamingmuse's view on the story. It's an important topic and teenagers need their own stories and characters to relate to. I know when I was that age (I'm 35 now) that I really latched on to characters I related to and that relationship I had with those characters and that media helped me get through some dark times. I agree that this is a beautiful game and it's really nice to see something like this come out in such scary and uncertain times.

    Thanks for the video! I played it over the weekend.The fact they brought the cliche vibe from Layers of Fear (where the scares become predictable) and the puzzle/chasing scenes heavily inspired by the worst thing in SH Shattered Memories really disappointed me. The ideas were there, but the execution and the fact the game and narrative didn’t try even one bit to be subtle killed it for me. I wish I wouldn’t have to say this but at this point Konami should just let the franchise rest in piece, once and for all.

    Aside from the comments being turned off, I wanted to comment anyway for a while so I’ll take this as a good enough reason as any! Your videos have been thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated since I stumbled on your channel, and I can’t express how inspiring it’s been to see some of my most favourite IPs explored and constructively critiqued with such genuine passion. This games theme in particular is a near perfect reflection of my own traumas and struggle with creating and sharing it with the world, online most of all. Ten years ago I got the idea to start a channel and do play throughs, analysis etc and I never got it into gear. Lots of reasons can explain why but without going deep on it, all I can say is thank you for showing empathy towards this games ideas and metaphors. That has helped kickstart my goal to try again and hopefully contribute to the silent hill/horror/eastern media ether worth even a sliver of respect your videos rightfully deserve. 👏🏼

    Wow i almost gave up hope on konami and then they surprised me with this. Looks like a great game and they incorporated plenty of call backs to old silent hills. So psyched they used germany as a location,I am German and yes we have many cool,abandoned silent hill-eque places there. It's a cool concept to tie in bots and pieces of Japanese lore within the game and modernize it with the social media/isolation/ mental illness themes of this game. Silent Hill has always been great at approaching subjects other games or media doesn't like to touch.

    I'm really indifferent towards the game though I enjoyed it and can see others point of view. Most people seem to criticize the fact that it doesn't take place in Silent Hill but if the town can call people then it only makes sense that its also able to influence other parts of the world .If something starts to root itself doesn't that mean it will eventually grow and expand ?

    And regarding the silent hill syndrome - people don’t realize, I think, that you either get an endless series of identical games in the same location that get really derivative really fast, or you evolve and change and experiment. Plus wow, do people forget how campy and silly some elements of mythology of original games actually are. So you know what - bring it on, yeah, this is both true to real life global psychological suffering and and just and campy as the original mythology.

    I've been wanting to get your take on it. I liked it overall, but the way they tackled mental health felt a bit over the top and lacked a bit of much needed subtlety, in my opinion. I read in an article that this game was always intended to be free. If I remember, the team that worked on this was given the project as a way to hone horror game development.

    This seems pretty great compared to a lot of the recent Silent Hill stuff (Cough cough pachinko, cough cough ascension), but it definitely feels juvenile- and I don't mean that as a bad thing. The poetry/ monologue/ letter at the beginning is an extremely teenage thing to write, and it takes the things that teenagers deal with very seriously. I like it, but at the same time I can see why some people who grew up with Silent Hill feel underserved, like the franchise hasn't grown up alongside them- I disagree, but it's avalid take.

Like does Knowledge of Silent Hill and the stories around cause the Silent Hill, The cult expanding, the local drugs/herbs of Silent Hill that may increase spiritual awareness expanding to around the world? How Do these factor react to locations and people?

  • @gryaznygreeb

    @gryaznygreeb

    4 ай бұрын

    I took it as a metaphor for the massive increase in mental health issues, suicides, and substance abuse we are still dealing with in the wake of covid. The isolation, depression, fear, uncertainty of the future, etc plunged many people into a depressive fog, and made a lot of people feel crazy. That's the Silent Hill phenomenon, when your own mind brings your nightmares to life and tortures you with them. Just like the original town did to James and Alessa. You can waste months of your life in a depressive episode like that, just like how Anita had been in that nightmarish world for at least 6 months, but it seemed like no time at all. Story wise in the game's world, I think it's more likely to be just the fact that so many people worldwide are in such a bad mental state that causes it. If you look at the original games, The Order needed to cause Alessa tremendous pain and suffering while keeping her alive to birth their "God". The original other world of Silent Hill was born from immense suffering and fear. World wide suffering during the pandemic wasn't extreme as Alessa's experience, but maybe the fact that it's *so many* people suffering allows the same entity to break through to our world and plunge people into their personal nightmares for a short time. Maybe The Order is spreading worldwide to take advantage of that suffering and fear on a grand scale to try and bring their God to the whole world as they originally had hoped, instead of just an easily defeated monster in one town. The more "Silent Hill Phenomena" incidents there are, the more global fear would increase as well. They could have a constant supply of fear and suffering worldwide, rather than merely the suffering of one girl. The original Incubator boss in SH1's good endings looks incomplete, possibly because Kaufman uses the Aglaophotis to force it out of Alessa prematurely, or perhaps because the ritual wasn't powerful enough to begin with. Even if you don't save Kaufman, you fight the even easier to defeat Incubator. In 3 it's pretty much directly shown/stated that Heather was able to ruin the ritual and cause God to be born incomplete, and easily killed, so that's probably what happened in the first game as well with Incubus/Incubator. So basically I think it's either a mental phenomenon that happens without the Order's influence, or it's the result of The Order utilizing worldwide fear to try and summon a literal demon/god. If it is the Order's doing, then you can be pretty sure they would bring the PTV drug, as well as knowledge of Silent Hill worldwide to fuel their efforts.

    Love your videos, I'm glad I can watch you play this since I don't have a PS5. I really appreciate them tackling this subject. I lost a close friend to suicide in high school, and felt genuinely suicidal at times as well. I saw the police and ambulance surrounding his house when I came home from dinner one night, he lived just down the street from me. I walked up and tried to ask what happened and I was told angrily to go away and it wasn't my business. I reached out to tell a mutual friend what I saw and ask if he knew what happened. He said "Do the police have a bag that could fit a body?" I responded, "What do you mean, why are you asking me that?" He said again, "Do they have a bag that could fit a body? A's gone man, his gf just told me a few minutes ago". Again I literally could not comprehend it. I was 15 but I was in such shock I was acting like a kid who doesn't understand death. I responded, "What do you mean gone, did he run away or something? Where is he?" and he had to tell me straight up that A shot himself before it clicked. Even once he said that, I had to walk up to the house the next day and hear it from his parents themselves before I could believe it. I thought it had to have been some kind of fucked up joke or something at my expense, and maybe he was just arrested for doing something stupid, and there was an ambulance because he was drunk underage, or maybe the ambulance was actually for his grandma. I kept having dreams where he was alive and sometimes it took me a few moments after waking to remember he wasn't. Everyone always said HS was supposed to be the best time of my life. I struggled to be happy to begin with due to divorce and neglect as kid, and after A took his own life, I felt like, "If this is the greatest things will ever get why the hell would I want to keep going?" I really looked up to him because he could play anything on the guitar by ear and acted like a badass punk rocker who didn't care what anyone else thought of him. He was always just trying to make people laugh and have fun too. It was really hard on me. "If someone so amazing took their own life, why am I still here?" Thankfully I'm actually way happier as an adult, and no longer have those kind of thoughts. Seeing the damage his suicide caused so many people was actually a huge factor in me getting help and learning how to be happy. He saved my life in a way, kinda like Maya did for Anita by leading her to that mural. The ending genuinely moved me to tears because of my personal experience with the subject matter. Even if you didn't hide a letter someone wrote begging for help, you still carry that guilt with you when someone close to you takes their life, and you didn't know about it and couldn't do anything to help. That letter represents the warning signs you only recognize once it's too late to help and they're already gone. You wonder how you could have missed it, how you let yourself fail someone else like that. It's all too real for some people. I was skeptical of this game going in, and I do think some things could be better, but it was the first Silent Hill game to move me to tears. I've never dealt with a terminally ill wife that becomes a burden to me, like James. I don't have kids yet and I've never experienced the horror of losing one like Harry. I'm not a woman like Heather, my father is still alive, and while I do sympathize with some of 3's themes, I don't exactly personally understand the motherhood stuff that's a central theme of this game either. This one though? I've lived that hell, and it hits hard. The symbols and metaphors make way too much sense. This is my Silent Hill.

    I actually liked this game! Wasn't perfect but it showed good potential and it's their warm up game. It's the first horror game that Konami has internally developed since silent Hill 4!

    The dying fake out at the start originated in silent hill 1 not 3 fyi

    Nah, I don't think Muse meant the dying fake out (woke up from nightmares) just like we seen in the beginning of SH 1 & 3 but I think she meant the one where Heather died and then you got special cutscene where Valtiel dragging her away possibly to revive her for her to start again
