    Hello, I'm new and I've already seen many of your videos. Question: to use the DJI MAVIC 3E+ the RTK Module, is it mandatory to also purchase the D RTK-2? I am thinking about doing topographic surveys, what precision would I obtain with and without RTK.

  • @aviosmedia
    @aviosmedia3 күн бұрын

    Hi. Thanks for the question. No, it is not necessary to buy the D-RTK-2 if you have an RTK unit. You have several options: 1. D-RTK-2 - this is your own base station but must be placed on a known point. If you know how to create a known point - great. If not, see my other video that shows how to find an existing one kzread.info/dash/bejne/dKhsr8iQhZO3aKw.html. Note that the D-RTK only works with DJI - it is easier to set up on DJI but if you buy another type of drone or want to use it with a GNSS rover then you could be stuck. 2. Buy another precision GNSS rover, such as an Emlid Reach RS2 or RS3. The M3E can connect to this easily and it is cheaper and works with anything, so you are not locked in to DJI which, if you live in the US with the law changes proposed might be a good thing. 3. Use a CORS / NTRIP server. These are base stations that are all over the country. that broadcast connection signals that you can connect to over the internet. Many municipalities have free ones that you can connect too and there are also paid ones. I showed how to do this using Dronelnik in a previous video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKuFpduef6rXicY.html) and using it with Pilot 2 is very similar. This also has information on how to buy an RTK module at about 1/3rd the US price (if you are in the US). I will also be putting out a new video tonight that shows how to connect to a free service that is a global called RTK2Go so if you are subscriber you will get notified of that when it goes out this evening. Hope that helps!

    Can I request a video about camera settings with regards to MF, AFC & AFS.? How to stop it switching back to MF if you have AFC or AFS selected and which setting she we use? Last request…. When setting up a mapping mission, let’s say an Ortho type for now and you have it set to “timed shots”. When you’ve planned the area, pressed save it will give you the number of images it will take and the length of time to do it. Should the number of images being taken increase or decrease if the timed camera shot is 0.7 seconds or every 2 seconds? It doesn’t appear to update the mission plan details before or during flight. Hope that makes sense.

  • @DenisElec

    Not sure I understand. Does the GNSS receiver (base station) sends RTK correction to the rover in direct or it sends it to the controller then the controller send it to the rover. If second option, with which protocol?

  • @aviosmedia
    @aviosmediaАй бұрын

    When setting the GCPs you don't use the drone at all. Typically you use two GNSS receivers - one placed on a known location (future video on how to find those coming) and one that moves around. The first GNSS receiver (base) sends corrections to the second GNSS receiver (rover).

    Thank you for all the great videos. I am a bit unsure, though, about something. At 5:00 you indicate that an Enterprise or RTK is required, but then immediately after you say that one of the PROS is that you don't need an RTK enabled drone. Can you please clarify? TY

  • @aviosmedia
    @aviosmediaАй бұрын

    That's a great question! When processing PPK, most software (possibly all?) needs additional log files that contain additional timestamp information (mrk file) and additional gps log information (bin or obj file). On DJI drones, these are only created if you have an enterprise drone that has an RTK module installed. For example, the Mavic 3 Enterprise will create these but only if the RTK module is installed. If the little module is not installed they are not created. When you are using RTK you need a constant signal between the drone, the controller and the base station (or NTRIP/CORS station if you are using that). If that fails you get errors. But if you know that you are going to use PPK then you don't have to enable RTK, just have the module installed so that the extra files are created. So it needs an enterprise drone...but RTK does not need to be turned on (enabled). Now...there is a part of me that says that since even non-RTK drones timestamp the photos, and have GPS, that you could theoretically still use PPK here. And, in fact, you can if you use GCPs, but that is in the next video. However, smarter people than me tell me that non-RTK drones are only single band, vs dual band, and that means they are not accurate enough. Hopefully that makes sense and clears it up but, if not, let me know

  • @DanDroneATL
    @DanDroneATLАй бұрын

    @@aviosmedia Thank you, sir. I did a little test yesterday and can firm that the M3E does create (3) addition data files when the RTK module is installed, but not connected. • @aviosmedia
    @aviosmediaАй бұрын

    @@DanDroneATL You doubted me :o. Just kidding - trust but verify always! I'm told that the RTK antenna is a dual band and the standard is a single band so, in theory, this should be more accurate. Now...here's an interesting thing and something i may do a five minute Friday on at some point. Most CORS/NTRIP providers not only provide a signal for correction in real time, but also keep all of that data historically. So you can go to a provider, download the RINEX files from that date, and then use something like Emlid Studo to correct the EXIF data of your photos ala PPK (post processing remember). So, yes, they are useful to have. Hope that helps!
