Find Known Locations for RTK and GCPs

Ғылым және технология

When placing your base station, whether for setting GCPs or for use in RTK/PPK, you need to place it on a known location - something that you absolutely, positively, know where it is with high accuracy.
But...how do you do that?
There are lots of ways but, fortunately for us, the NGS has placed markers around the country. Here we cover how to find some of those!

Thanks... Very Informative. In my area my nearest geo marker is a couple miles away from where I need to fly. I'd need an armed guard to protect my base station if I set it up over the marker! Other issue typically is there is a lot of tree cover that grew up over these old markers. OK for land surveyors but not so good for aerial surveying. As a work around I carry a chainsaw. Always be resourceful! Keep up the great videos Barry!

Agreed. A lot of these markers are super old and not in ideal locations. The demo one was on someone's path!

Really interesting! I am based in the UK so hunted around for a similar resource data set. I have found the GeoIndex - British Geological Survey but not clear if there is a relevant data set to overlay for such markers shown in your video in the USA (but in the UK). I'd welcome your thoughts!

I wish I knew. That said, the UK is one of the most mapped places in the world (thanks to the wonderful ordinance survey maps) and so I would be surprised if these didn't exist. Try searching for trig pillar and see what you come up with !
