18:33 -- is the reason I think Bill would be a top 10 Strongman TODAY. He is literally throwing 175lbs barrels like beach balls. And also -- his log lift earlier was good enough to be over 400lbs that day. the 360 looked like a warmup rep. You know how few people , even Training for it specifically , can do 400lbs log today? Not many. And of the ones that do 400+, how many weight 320 or less? Not many...
@mzriebl8 жыл бұрын
Kaz had a 400 pound log in him that day - so much more animal power to spare. Incredible. In 1980 he also pulled 950+ pounds in the partial deadlift and looked good for 1100 pounds. A shame that we never really got to see his maximum human potential - I guess (injury free) his power would have peaked around 1985 and he was probably good for six titles.

No doubt. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay different log than they used today too. Incredible unbalanced and a huge diameter and he still handled it like a toy and he had no technique. Who knows where he would have been using todays but I think it would have been neck and neck with Big Z and Eddie Hall.

Kaz was a total beast for sure but JP absolutely dominated in '87, and he'd lose tons of weight for bodybuilding then stack it back on for Strongman. I reckon if Kaz were still competing in WSM and continued dominance then JP would've taken at least one off him prior to '87, especially if he didn't fluctuate in weight constantly and worked toward the one goal of Strongman.

It should be stated for the record that Jon Pall had weeks to specifically train all the events that were used and Kaz had zero prep. He was also older and coming off several years of not competing. Still they also let Jon Pall cheat in some of the events.

Geoff Capes at the 1980 WSM said he was going to put on about 50lbs more and be a lot stronger so he can compete better for this year. He put on 5lbs :P But he did improve from 3rd 1980 to 2nd place in 1981. An increase of 18.5 pts from the year before.

In Bill Kazmaier prime, the only man that could even push him in most events was big Geoff Capes. Was a legitimate champion when he won in 83 and 85. Still, if Bill had been in those two nobody else would have walked away with the trophy. I don't think John Paul sigmasin could have knocked him off until 1986 or later. @@AdrianKimmett1 my favorite moment between those two was the tug of war. It was like 12 minutes or something. That's an epic battle of wills! Anyone who says that bill Kaz was just a static strong man in the mold of a zydrunus, ought to see this contest where he proved he had endurance and speed too! I think a prime bill, even from that era, put in today's game could do very well. Remember that his powerlifting total has not been increased in 41 years. His raw total in world powerlifting competition was 2,425 lb. Nobody has been able to beat that unequipped. That's a beast today! And his overhead power is also respectable even today. Before 1972 Olympic lifters did the press with insane poundages but after this date no pressing because it wasn't needed as snatch and clean& jerk used back & legs to get weight overhead.If any pressing was done the lift was nullified.Now power lifters did bench press but many neglected overhead press as it wasn't needed.So both Olympic lifters and power lifters wouldn't do good unless press was trained on. Also the body changed on Olympic lifters from very muscled upper body to next to nothing on upper as pressing wasn't needed until today many lifters are squat looking with most weight below the belt large legs, bum etc with next to nothing upper as pushing with legs in clean and jerk until arms lockout at joints.
@AdrianKimmett1
5 жыл бұрын
The strict press was removed from the Olympics because it become almost impossible to judge fairly. All Olympic weightlifters still use it training
@rjohns5790
5 жыл бұрын
AdrianKimmett1 It was called the Olympic press that came from original military press. If all Olympic lifters still trained the press you would see again amazing shoulder development but this isn't the case anymore but you're right many continue to do so under the belief it helps. So many train on push press or better push jerk that mimics c&j or overhead holds in lockout. As you know it's hard to change technique after doing thousands of reps. Many world class lifters attempt to press in c& j when it won't work as in press barbell goes up it pushes your down that nullifies the action of legs in jerk.World class coaches have advised lifters doing this but they keep on doing it.I made same mistake as well.

love this show they are better then the ones from now a days the events here are not something they have been training for because they did not know what event they should compete in before showing up to the show, and i really like that, the shows from today are "just" power lifting i really miss the different style in events that they used the first 30 years of the WSM, and i would love if there was doping test before every event now a days, so we could see who is the WSM and not who has used most steroids and protein powder
@AdrianKimmett1
9 жыл бұрын
lytken the events of today have become more standardized but they have gotten more creative the last few years. The weights have gone through the roof by comparison though. There were plenty of steroids and protein powders being used in the early days too don't kid yourself there. Today's performance enhancements are more advanced but so is the knowledge of training and nutrition and supplementation, that's just the evolution of sports and performance, that's not something that can be changed or stopped in Strongman or any sport. Strongman is much more diverse and challenging than powerlifting and the events require MUCH MUCH more athleticism and conditioning than hitting 1RM's in squat deadlift and bench press. I compete at amateur level in both sports and I can tell you without a doubt that Strongman is FAR more difficult and challenging and harder on the body than Powerlifting EVEN with somewhat standardized events. As fun as they were to watch the non standardized events of old also created more risk and injury to the athletes which is something I'm happy to see reduced. Regardless of performance enhancements the title winners every year ARE the Strongest men walking the earth.

lytken Ultimately all drug testing would do is make it in to a competition to see who can take the most drugs without getting caught. Drug testing doesn't work. The elite at virtually every sport, not just strength sports take drugs. I kinda agree with the rest of what you said though. The early competitions were far more exciting and unpredictable because it hadn't been turned in to a science. There was a wide range of physiques, specialities and training styles whereas today they are all 400lb+ with a decent layer of fat and train like powerlifters with event days thrown in and know exactly what to expect from the competition.

Nothing stupid about the truck pull, it remains one of the most popular and crowd pleasing events in Strongman to this day and is included in pretty much every World's Strongest Man as well as other high level pro competitions all the way down through the amateur ranks. Being heavier is an advantage at the start to get it rolling but there is a LOT more to it than just having extra bodyweight. There is a lot of technique and athleticism involved in harness pulling, and it also requires a high level of anaerobic conditioning as well as mental toughness. Those things matter much more than bodyweight. There are MANY examples in the sport of lighter men beating the heavier guys and even winning the event

Kaz had a 400 pound log in him that day - so much more animal power to spare. Incredible. In 1980 he also pulled 950+ pounds in the partial deadlift and looked good for 1100 pounds.

That guy Mike Adamle has been everywhere. He was not only hosting this event, but he was also hosting the old show American Gladiators from 1989 to 1996, and then he was in the WWE in 2008.
The old WSM were a lot more interesting. Maybe it's because it wasn't so professional. Just like early UFC

Within a year he would probably be log pressing 500 pounds.

Kaz had more steroids in him than the soviet olympic team.
The fact they banned him for many years is a travesty
@AdrianKimmett1

The strict press was removed from the Olympics because it become almost impossible to judge fairly. All Olympic weightlifters still use it training
@rjohns5790
Fucking shit, I truly believe Kaz could have log pressed 500lbs if he had technique like Big Z

love this show they are better then the ones from now a days the events here are not something they have been training for because they did not know what event they should compete in before showing up to the show, and i really like that, the shows from today are "just" power lifting i really miss the different style in events that they used the first 30 years of the WSM, and i would love if there was doping test before every event now a days, so we could see who is the WSM and not who has used most steroids and protein powder
@AdrianKimmett1
9 жыл бұрын
lytken the events of today have become more standardized but they have gotten more creative the last few years.
